I noticed the reference to investing the increase in the Italian market which seems a tad odd. It may simply be the case that they used a generic email and neglected to change "Italian" to "Irish". In any event, I guess what they do with their money is none of our business.

I read somewhere on their German site months ago that they've been charging a €1.50 service fee as standard. If they think they can get away with here it they'll charge it.Twitter will be outraged for a few days then things will go back to normal.

Even at that they rarely pay the Fiver cancellation fee to drivers.
I never bother waiting the 5 mins anymore as it's 50/50 as to getting the cancellation fee.

You can bet the punter gets charged after 2 or 3 minutes of us waiting and we don't get anything out of it and like you said even waiting the 5 minutes guarantees you nothing.

I average about 30c per FreeNow passenger in tips. This wouldn't be a concern.

Reading the terms and conditions...from 5. On it wud appear to me that the "technology fees"  for cash will  be collected by the spsv driver ...ie we hav to add it on to the metered fare and fleanow takes it out of our bank payment ....is this correct?

Does Reserve fleet mean pre-books ??
If it is then it will kill off the pre-books !

I think so Belker.I never use the prebook thing. It's a bad idea IMO to have it as it keeps vehicles driving around or waiting empty in beteen Prebooks.

I see freight is 25% for private hire cars now. Only a matter of time before licensed taxis are paying the same.

FreeNow, the taxi-booking app, is to roll out a range of new fees early in the new year which will see passengers charged up to €10 if they cancel their journey or do not show up within a set time frame while the company’s so-called “technology fees” are also set to increase.

That'll piss customers off big time.  There's plenty of reasons why a customer might legit cancel - maybe the husband books before the wife is ready or the baby kicks off just before the taxi turns up.  A fiver was the right number I'd suggest?

Or how about this...
Got a street hail this morning to the airport.  They'd originally pre-booked a FN taxi but it looked like the driver was trying to do another airport tun before picking them up.  He was 20 mins late and was refusing to cancel their job.  Cheeky fukker looking for the fiver I guess?  So they had to cancel the job and immediately got a €5 cancellation fine.  I told them to write to FN explaining their situation but they probably won't.

Thers socio pathetic cnuts ordering multiple taxis from different phones and different apps and taking the first one to arrive ....they shud be fuking Horse wipped .....fine the cnuts  a tenner an fuk them off it  but fukyu won't do anything cause it costs them nothing
Thers also 2 taxis bean  hailed by the one phone and not the customer fault but Fukyunow ...as I found out recently the other driver called out the same name I had for job ....
But freenow is runnnin away with themselves..they seem to know ..bolt an ubers apps are absolutely shite and fleenow are takin full advantage of it I'm very sorry to say ....
The next step predicted by some thinkers  on here ....
Very soon can see a commission hike ....
Maybe even January

They should use the technology fee to regulate demand during so-called peak times. I'm sure plenty of riders wouldn't mind paying an extra score if they could get a cab on a weekend night up above in Dublin.

Uber call that surge-pricing.

With surge pricing the driver gets the excess (less commission). With Free Now's technology fee version the firm trousers the lot.... but then Uber give drivers the cancellation fees (commission free) too whereas Free Now trousers c.82.64% of them.

I use Uber in the UK and Spain. I generally use Lynk or Bolt in Dublin because they seem to have a lot more drivers than Uber. Notably, the fares charged by Uber, Lynk and Bolt in Dublin are significantly lower than fares charged by Free Now.

Not particularly but that's no reason to pay higher fares. In my experience, all of the firms use the same cars and drivers yet Bolt, Uber and Lynk charge lower fares and pay more to their drivers.

A woman has shared the two simple safety measures she takes whenever she’s travelling in an Uber.

Brenna, from the US, said she would always leave behind her hair and fingerprints in every car she rides as “evidence” she was there, in case she found herself in a dangerous situation.

A loony driver is probably more likely to attack her for 'dirtying' his taxi?

I guess she means well but, like all app firms, Uber is already tracking the movements of the driver and passenger so much of the evidence is already available.

In Ireland you'll find Uber drivers working for Lynk, Free Now, Bolt and other firms as well so I guess the same precautions would be advisable in most taxis on our roads although anecdotal evidence suggests migrant drivers have an extremely high propensity to rape and/or murder their clients. I know you will argue that more white Irish by accident of birth drivers have been convicted of such offences but you must bear in mind that a conviction requires the crime to be reported. Sex offences are the least reported crimes in the State and murder victims rarely, if ever, stand up to be counted.
