When renewing your PSV driving licence, I advise to bring with you, as well as the mandatory items, the "items which may be requested" i.e. passport, and NDLS diving history, because they will be requested.
NDLS driving history is availabe by email from NDLS in approximately 10 days.
If your driving licence history has penalty points you will be required to get a letter from your insurance company, on their headed paper, stating that they are aware of the points, and to get this letter you have to email them your NDLS driving history, and they will email you the required letter by return.
I was in there this morning, and contrary to an NTA Google seach the Carriage Office is not open 9-17, but from 9.30-12.45, and 14.00-16.30. Luckily I had my passport on my phone, and was able to email it to her there and then. I had my printed NDLS history with me, as well as on my phone, and I then emailed my NDLS history to my insurance who will email the required awareness letter, which Louise in the Carriage Office said is acceptable to be sent to her by post.

Good info Harry, I saved it all in email drafts fer next renewal.
I am an Irish citizen since about 1972 but London born and my passport is many years out of date but I still have the old one, I'll play it by ear when the time comes in about 18 months.

I renewed mine back in Oct in Drogheda PSV office,no NDLS driving history required.
-
It's a Dublin thing mostly. And the odd culchie Garda station around the country.
-
Good to know anyway, better to be prepared, especially about the NDLS driving history bit.
Thanks Harry ::cheers

The requirement for your NDLS driving history is a bit sneaky. It's something like #9 on the list of things you need to bring. But it just says something like 'any additional info requested' instead of the driving history printout. I'd say 90% of drivers who renewed the past year fell foul of this hidden requirement. The Guards in the Santry CO have a little printout they give you with how to get your driving history so they must have gotten fed up explaining themselves to drivers?

I provided NDLS on last renewal but no need for passport. Must be recently added.

On the 1st renewal notice it says "any other info", but on the receipt of payment notice, which is very similar to the 1st renewl notice it is more specific, and says "such as passport, and NDLS deiving history".
