Title: Bobo's getting tougher.
Post by: Belker on February 03, 2023, 07:00:17 am
I got me Bobo offers fer this weekend, 8 jobs fer a Pony between midnight and 4am on Fri and Sat nights.
I don't remember what it used to be but I don't think it was ever 8 before !

That will be a hard Bobo to make with the city centre 'Jungle' being more or less off-limits fer booked pick-up's between 12.30am and 3.30am. Hardly worth the bother fer a taxable Pony.

They're not trying to reward you - they're trying to stop you working for other apps or yourself (street hails)!

€30 off your freight... without which my freight would have been well over €50 for ONE (9.5 hour) SHIFT. I'd say you can remember when we got a week's freight for €80 and could do as much work as we wanted for that!

And no commission, and no backhanders to base staff? Ya spoofer. If you weren't giving backhanders or doing backdoor work you were on your own. 8)

Ah, the Good Auld days ! Sitting on a rank and belling in fer every job and trying to keep track of the base roster and paying about a Ton a week fer it, while half of the work you did was your own off the street/private.

Your downtime back in the Good Auld days would often be 50+% of your working day, granted app commission costs are exhorbitant but the downtime is nothing near 50%.

I find that between Legal PUC's, Tips and Bobo's it negates the commission, and at least your moving all the time, nothing more boring fer me than sitting on a rank.

I assume you're talking about during the recession, Ken. Prior to that you woulda loved C2K... all plots maxed out with jobs every Fri/Sat evening - you'd pull into a cul de sac in one of the housing schemes and 3 or 4 doors would open when you sounded the horn... but the real money was the early morning prebookings, we were matching your hourly rate of today, only in punts! There was never any commission or any need to bribe anyone but it was no harm to move for the odd one the base controller was struggling to cover - and there were countless. You wouldn't get any back door work as such but might get the odd whisper during a quiet Tuesday or Wednesday shift e.g. I was once number 8 on the depot when the controller suggested via channel 2 that Donabate might be worth a look... and it was... but the job was there on screen for anyone that wanted to take a chance to bid on.

It was indeed during the recession years that I was talking about, I as still a 'Newbie' only started in 2009.
Pre recession in the Taxi game I know little about.

Heart-broken I am !  Didn't make me Bobo last night !!  ::fds

Bobo was 7 jobs Midnight to 4am fer a Pony.
Started work at Midnight, first app job around the corner was a no-show,
took a few street hails after that. But I was still sitting OK'ish on 3 jobs at 1.30am,
needing only 4 more in the next 2.5 hours fer me Bobo, hardly a big ask.

Nothing, Nada coming in on the FN screen the whole way back in to town,
I took another street hail and after dropping again Nothing, Nada coming on screen,
untill I was right back in the city center and then got the 'Black box' job at 2.15am
going 10km out to Ballincollig, did that fer me 4th job and then again Nothing, Nada
the whole way back to the city right throught the Southern burbs untill I was again
back in the city center and got another city 'Black box' job at 2.45am, ending at 3.05am
fer me 5th job, surely I could do 2 more in an hour ?

Again after dropping in the Southern burbs no offer at all till I got back in to the city proper,
and then yet another city 'Black box' job at 3.15am going 12km out to Fookin Little Island,
I dropped in Little Island fer me 6th job at 3.30am and high-tailed it back to the city,
even increasing my radius to 6km from my ever set 2km, passing by Glanmire (usually a hot-spot by night)
through all the East Southern burbs, through town and in to the Southern burbs proper.

No offer at all from 3.30am to 4am while on Ambassador/Priority,
and I would have taken any offer as I would have gotten an extra Pony fer the last fare.

It seems a tad strange fer me to miss out on a Bobo once I apply myself.

Last Jan 22nd Sat night/Sun morning I remember texting Korky at 1.22am to boast/tell him that I had the €30 six job Midnight to 4am Bobo completed at 1.22am, and I also completed the 15 job quest (starting 2 hours late) on the poxy Wednesday of the Jazz weekend last year when 2 experienced drivers told me that it could not be done !
Yet last night I could not complete 7 jobs in 4 hours ?? And the only late offers I was getting were 'Black box' jobs ??

All the apps are like that now, they've got wide and know you do the work regardless and gradually withdraw the incentives.

Sounds ghastly, Ken.

Fortunately I got started at 18:00 and picked up a couple of €40+ jobs facilitating a 23:00 finish letting the first generation immigrantss look after the late night shite while I watched the darts I'd recorded whilst enjoying a nice drop of Ishca Batha.

Is a pony 25 bucks ?

I started out last night without priority and couldn't manage to get a bonus prebook to get instant priority, so after midnight I said I'd do 3 jobs and get priority for Sunday and Monday. Once I had the 3 jobs done I got reeled in to try for the 8 jobs for 30 quid, wasn't easy but got the last one at about 3am going from Swords to Balbriggan. Even found myself working Rats stomping ground around Darndale, I suppose you gotta do what gotta do.

The Bobo's do tend to get us to work when we really don't want to (which is almost all of the time).

The Bonus prebook/reserve taxi jobs fer instant priority have almost evaporated since the introduction of the €3 technology fee fer prebooks/reserve.

Good fer you Stephen !  ::cheers

I started as usual at Midnight Sat night, Bobo was the usual midnight to 4am fer a Pony but now 8 jobs required. First street fare went to Midleton fer a nifty cash and I took a FN Glanmire back to town on the way home, that was a no-show and threw me hat at it after that fearing another shut-out if I got close to the Bobo prize. Ended up on 0 of 8 jobs completed at 4am. The street johnny cash work was good + tips between midnight and 4am, hit the top treble with 3 darts in the 4 hours on johnny alone.

Saturday wasn't as good, Ken. Every tanned halfwit in the country seems to be working my patch regaling clients with tales of how many €1 pints they could sink with their €2 full english and telling them how we're being robbed in this kip of a country... before demanding €15+ for a 3 minute taxi ride! I was tempted to chase the bonus but I had my 5 hours done and I was tired enough. Last night wasn't great either but I'm hoping it picked up after I went home on account of the Superbowl anall so the tanned brigade will be on the high stools tonight boring the shite out of each other instead of our clients. I wish it could be January every month!

I dunno how your OCD deals with what would normally be decent fares when chasing a bonus, Wingnut. I took Drogheda by mistake (thought it was Boroimhe) from River Valley when I was chasing it one night of St. Bridget's weekend. Far side of Drogheda so a decent fare at 80 notes + gratuity but there's no way I woulda consciously accepted it. For me the bonus is all quantity over quality. c.€4 bonus for a €10-15 job is handy enough money but €4 on a €30 job doesn't even cover the freight.

Watty hit the nail on the head. I stay local between 00.00 and 02.00. By that time I'd covered 8 mickey mouse locals,...and then turn on the BOLT App.

I can then work the streets using the BOLT heat map for guidance. Why Dubs are being paid 30 lids when culchies are being paid only €25 for the same gig is baffling.

Maybe they're being paid women's rate! 8)

I would be the same, I did one going out of town a few weeks ago which was almost guaranteed to be coming home empty and had to hand over a Tenner in commission. The short fares with PUC are the sensible app jobs to take.

UCC 'RAG week' down here (Sun to Thurs) with a FN Turbo boost of €2 extra per job (Midnight to 3am, Mon to Wed.)

Fortunately Drogheda is a Free Now stronghold, Ken.

I'd say you'd piss through 8 off the Kilmardinny alone, SB. Maybe I'll have to start working late and covering pub jobs to give you a dig out with it... to be fair, it's a decent darts pub anyway... or at least it was...

The staff have my number for when FN isn't responding. The best job so far was Betaghstown.
Saturday I was offered Kilmahuddrick and Killanarden, but I politely declined in favour of Kilbarron Road...to see the legend that says "The streets are yours" rofl

It would want to be cash only + PUC to make it anyway economical.
No way would I cover that kind of work but if it works fer you then so be it.

They don't drink that much, it interferes with their medication. Plus it may be their only outlet. Trad music in the afternoon and cheap pints, and a game of darts, what's not to like?

The place is rammed all through Cheltenham and Paddy's week.

I think we all know that the older, working-class generation are far more generous with their tips than the punters in Ashtons, or O'Shea's in Clonskeagh.

I don't mind bringing clients to the pub but I won't take anything with a reference number on it under any circumstances. I've (addmittedly, in error) taken one or two from that establishment who have hailoed for themselves on Bolt.
