Twice over the weekend it disconnected itself and I had to down load a new version as it would not accept my E mail address .Now on the First occasion it was a Pay by App job but how do I get paid if I do not have any Application to enter the fare .What happens if I detain the Customer until they hand over CASH as I am entitled to be paid for my service .Their arrangement is with or through Free Now so if there is any issue with payment it is between them and their App provider not Me .I did my part of the Contract .
The Second time about the Same time next day App disconnected got the Sign in needing me to re enter my E mail and password then give approval to use my location and phone .
When I get Shit like this I turn it off go back to street work .Imagine if you had a heard of Drunks on board and you dont know the destination neither do they .They are going to a Gaff Party somewhere only have a Postcode and The app goes down now you do not know the destination and have no way of getting paid unless you inform the lads serious violence will be administered if they dont come up with funds .The uselessness of this App is putting drivers in danger from irate passengers who may be challenged to pay a fare they already think they have pre paid in app.

If it's an account job, it's not the end of the world. Open to correction but the info is stored on FN's central computer/server. It keeps track of everything for your phone and the passenger's phone. Once you do actually log back in again, the job will still be there and you can enter the payment details. Never had to re-enter my details but it's happened to me a few times where the app has crashed or I've had to force close it myself to restart the app. And the job is always there. You might have to wait 20 mins but it will be there. If it's a cash job, the meter is all you need to finish that job and you can finish off the FN details later when it comes back?
The app is very buggy though. Today, I had to press the 'passenger on board' many times to get the thing to start working. Bit of a c*nt when you're deep in some estate and trying to get a pointer towards the main road and civilisation!

Thanks Watty I know your job is there when you log back in I regularly have to Force Shut the App (Samsung Phone }But the trace to a location especially one entered as a Post code crashing then depends on you searching the web through other apps to locate the address with a car full of drunks .

True enough. I guess you could open google maps on the sly and then pretend you're dyslexic or something and ask them to repeat the Eircode? There's usually a sensible (less idiotic) one in the group?

Yeah but the 'central computer' still remembers the job and when you restart FN, the job is still there on your phone & live. So you'd have to type something in to get the job off the screen. So even if you took cash, you'd still have to charge his FN account card as well when the app restarted. You'd be basically double-charging him. Sure, customer support could probably fix it but it would piss off the passenger?

Now Jack here is the difficulty with that .When you book pay by app Free Now put a reserve on your funds equal to the assessed fare ,so punters think they have already paid and might refuse to pay twice .

Never had an issue with a punter when changing from app to cash payment.
Was never asked if they be would be charged twice.

It's only a problem in very specific circumstances, i.e., the passenger gets in expecting to pay by card/on account. The app crashes and he gives the driver cash at the end of the job. Then when the app restarts, the account job is still there and the only way to clear it is charge the passenger's card. Therefore they pay twice without realising it.
The correct thing (probably) is let the passenger away without paying cash, waiting 5-10 mins for the app to correct itself, and then charge the passenger's card/account.

Missing the point .paszenger has prepaid in app has no cazh or refuses to pay as they think twice .FN do not guarantee payment so what if after arriving the customer cancels .Can they do tbat if job is not complearex in app .we cannot finish some jobs if we dont cash out at thr location .if the drop off is dame street but 4 hours later i fix the app and cash out in maynooth will FN think i got a joe walsh and am short changing them .

Both cash and card.

Sometimes the cuntin thing won't allow you swap between card and cash or vice versa whether you like it or not and other times it will.. ::fds ::fds

A young lass in the cab one night explained that to me,
that the customer has to select the payment card from the screen,
and there is no hints on the app, just that the swipe action does not work.

Jonh M's point is very valid, it would be a hard sell to a customer to tell them that your app froze and they need to pay by cash or sumup AFTER THE FARE HAS BEEN PRE AUTHORISED.
So if they refuse to pay thinking they will be double-charged and you drive off waiting fer the app to unfreeze, the customer now at home looking at you on their screen driving away has the option to cancel the job leaving you with no payment at all and you can be sure FN won't be much help.

It's an unlikely scenario that the app would freeze, the customer was pre-authorised and refused to pay by cash and then cancelled the job, but it is possible.

The closest I came to that scenario was about 2 years back, a night time job.
I was in Douglas, the job was 10km away in Ringaskiddy coming 15km back to town.
Took the job and rang the customer to confirm, all was good.
App crashed half way to Ringaskiddy.
Thankfully I was able to phone the customer again using last dialled number on my phone.
I located him and explaind the story, thankfully his customer app crashed too, so he believed me.
He paid by card through sumup and when the app unfroze 2 hours later I switched it to cash.

In all the years that Hailo/Mytaxi has been operating in Ireland has anyone been refused payment for a fare on account ?

Yes, most usually I would not do those jobs but it was a very quiet mid-week night, it was a straight 10km run from Douglas out to Ringaskiddy, card job going 15km back to the city, almost no chance of the customer taking a passing taxi out there, and I rang him first before leaving to confirm that he would wait fer me.

I never had one on account, and only 2 in 8 years on cash jobs.
