@ 1990, It makes no sense to me why you would trade a saloon fer a part-worn WAV with those grants,
while you could scrap a saloon fer an new EV saloon with about 25k worth of grants ??
Given a choice of a Wheelie with grants or an EV with grants, I would take the EV every day.
-
And don't forget the hoops ye have to jump through afterwards with the WAV grant.

If you're on freenow, you need to do 1 WAV job a week. Also, you need to send the NTA a list of your WAV jobs every 6 months.

Peter from MD Motors told me during the week that all the WAV grant money was gone in three months, was out in Robinsons on Friday, they had two vans on the lifts that they were converting plus a few in the yard waiting to be converted all with the MD logo on them,my BYD was there along with another Atto 3.

Do you NEED to change it ?If you have a few years left on it put a few grand into it a new engine fitter wont cost a huge amount Lad in Glasnevin will rebuild it for under a Grand .Gearbox rebuild not to expensive .Full overhaul for about two grand if you got two or three more years out of it .Panel might be the man to advise you .

I didn't know that, that changes things quite a bit.
I take it you can get a Whellie grant fer upgrading a Wheelie ?
And also you can't get a saloon EV grant without scrapping a saloon ?
Surely 1990 you knew the day was coming when your old WAT was coming to an end ?
And yet you left the grant slip till now WHEN IT'S GONE !!
As a regular on here you really should have seen it coming .....
Anyways that is 'Spilt Milk', John M most likely has the most sound advice depending on your license renawal date.

I can keep mine until 2026 but it has 317,000 miles on it now. Have spent quiet a bit on it already over the last 2 years. will try to keep it going until January, then even if the grants are gone for good, I will change it.

Yes I asked the NTA and You can get the WAV grant more than once.
I didnt expect the grant money to be gone so quick, it was gone in February unlike last year when it was available until september I think.

All I ever had to do was fill in a few trips I did. no big deal.
would there be many wheelchair trips every week on free now I wonder in the likes of Dublin?

maybe they might release another 1 million euro later in the year.

Are the eSPSV Grants still available? I never bothered posting the confirmation for the last application I made.
-
Think so RC.Hal only applied last week and got an almost instant reply.
My application from months ago is still valid AFAIk until the money runs out.
-
Might stick in another one.... then again I might not!
-
I'm hearin ye RC...was kinda like that meself...no urgency about the whole fukin thing!!
-
Might stick in another one.... then again I might not!
Ah' sur tis only a 25+k grant and more with toppings !
Sur' de be around forever !! .... (UNLIKELY !).
I reckon both yourself, Hal and MFH fulfill all the criteria required;
A taxi available to scrap.
Access to a decent home charger.
Use of misses car fer domestic emergencies if EV battery is dry.
And decent IT knowledge of how to get it all working.
Ask yourself this; "Will all the grants still be on offer when I eventually need to trade up ?"
-
Got me charger survey yesterday...1600 plus another 200 to ESB to connect up the meter tails.
After a grant of 600 it will be 1200 net cost.Me fukin car isn't even worth 1200.It's very hard to see the value now that leccy prices are so expensive.I'm going back on the fence where it's nice and cheap
I'll repeat what I said already Belker that the grants are artificailly inflating the prices. There's no more than an hours work to install a charger on my gaff but they're charging about 650 for labour after the cost of the cable and charger is factored in.

Your doing your upmost best to talk yourself out of the deal of the century as I see it,
you tick all the 4 box requirements, I unfortunately barely tick the First one.
Your reminding me of 'Renter mentality' where they continue to rent because there is no unforseen overheads,
while paying 10k per year in rent fer a Taxi that cost 3k per year to maintain, and they actually believe they are the Winners !
-
I'm deffo not saving money by going electric Belker. The Prius is a frugal beast.I'd be changing cause I want something nice and new.
-
Watty did the figures before on leccy verses petrol/diesel a year or so back.
I think he was just under 50% of what the petrol/diesel prices were on non-hybrids.
Diesel has come down a lot since and leccy has increased but no way could a leccy car be any way near as expensive to run as a Diesel/petrol or even hybrid.
-
I know ya won't believe me Belker but Prius gets an easy 50/55mpg...some newer ones can get 65mpg.I'm a lazy git and I rarely put €50 a week into mine.
If yer moving from an old thirsty diesel to electric the savings are there but they're not sufficient to warrant a changeover without grants.
Higher home charging rates have messed up the whole thing up.I'll be paying nearly 50cent per KWH to charge at home.
The main reason I'm doing it is because a new Corolla costs 34500.I can get a leccy yoke on the road for 20k and it will still be worth at least 15k in three years. If I don't like it I can trade it in without it costing me a lot.Plus they have all the gadgets which is a big help.
-
...... Higher home charging rates have messed up the whole thing up.I'll be paying nearly 50cent per KWH to charge at home. .....
There is a lot to learn about home charging rates, a leccy driver mate explained it all to me before, it sounded confusing but he had it all sussed, the correct charging times and all the settings on the home charger, Etc.. Prob be very simple when ya get used to it.

E.&O.E. When I got my EV approx 18 months ago, it was a no-brainer. Diesel was about 80c/100km while charging at home was maybe 20-30% of that. Charging on the street was maybe half. Then prices went crazy and street charging was the same as diesel. It's still pretty neck and neck, I reckon (without doing any sums). You used to be able to get night rates for home charging around 5c-20c/kWh (not to be confused with above cent/100km) but that's long gone for new comers. Home charging is still cheaper than diesel but the difference is not a wide as it used to be.

The electricity companies are dragging their feet in passing on the drop in electricity costs worldwide.
-
Watty .Let me throw this in the Mix .Ireland Inc has a deal to supply power to Data Centers below cost .You can be sure that the cost of that subsidy is passed on to other users .If you see a Heard of Windmills you never see them all working they have continuous maintenance like the Forth bridge by the time you fix the last one the first one needs .I doubt Electricity prices will drop and as Data Centers work 24/7 Night time rates will be the same as day time .Its a supply and demand sort of thing .Elon Musk is investing Billions in Rapid Chargers all over the World and trying to get other Manufacturers to use his system .That cunt dosent do stuff not to make money .Can see Government offering a Half a Bucket full of ESB at a certain rate to keep the lights on in your gaff at a reduced rate then increasing the cost per unit the more you use in the name of energy conservation .
