Unfortunately as old age and cider catch up with me, my most beautiful array of summer XL shirts got a bit tight and much to my immense displeasure ALL 12 + a few old really good work suits had to be dumped in a Charity shop.
In thinking that getting a nua XXL shirt wardrobe would be easy-peasy I tried Dunnes and Tesco's, no joy in either, so I tried the more expensive high street shops, the prices were fairly astronomical but still nothing took my fancy.
Then I tried Ebay and to my amazement the amount of used shirts on offer was unbelievable, I bought 7 short sleeve (with top pocket) shirts in the first hour averaging about €16 each (including P+P), and dodging all the UK ones with their poxy Brexit sales tax.

Ken your Shirts are telling you something .Get your blood pressure checked out and get on a diet .Weight gained at our age is not great .I am down 30 lbs in the last three months hoping to lose 5 stone .In this heat you also need to take on plenty of fluid (not porter or coffee} I know of a Driver who virtually baked his own shit through dehydration .Resulted in a fist full of tablets a mouthfull of the Cats Liquid Parafin the stuff to help her pass furballs and an Enema from the Chemist to remove the blockage .He is now feeding Anusol up his back passage having ripped the arse out of himself trying to shit .LOOK AFTER YOUR HEALTH .I actually have a fully equipped Gym at home including Multigym .Rowing Machine Bike on a turbo trainer vibroplate and treadmill .Getting motivated is the hard part .

Not eating regularly is the thing that loads on the Fat .Your body thinks its being starved so stores the grub as fat for later use .Getting your dinner at 4Am in the Morning or your Breakfast @3Pm will fuck up your metabolism .I never eat or drink when I am Working and dont exercise at all bed to sofa to car then back to bed .

The guy who invented modern jogging died of a heart attack. He sweated out all his potassium or something from too much jogging and had the heart attack.
Damn, it was almost true... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Fixx
Death
Fixx died on July 20, 1984, at age 52 of a heart attack, during his daily run on Vermont Route 15 in Hardwick.[1] The autopsy, conducted by Vermont's chief medical examiner, Dr. Eleanor McQuillen, revealed that atherosclerosis had blocked one coronary artery 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%.[4][5]
In 1986, exercise physiologist Kenneth Cooper published an inventory of the risk factors that might have contributed to Fixx's death.[6] Granted access to his medical records and autopsy, and after interviewing his friends and family, Cooper concluded that Fixx was genetically predisposed—his father died of a heart attack at 43 after a previous one at 35,[7] and Fixx himself had a congenitally enlarged heart—and had an unhealthy life: Fixx was a heavy smoker before beginning running at age 36, had a stressful occupation, had undergone a second divorce, and gained weight up to 214 lb (97 kg).[8] Medical opinion continues to uphold the link between moderate exercise and longevity.

Lads get an NCT every year or 6 months for older cars but wont get themselves checked .You can get your Blood pressure checked in your local chemist .Of the few on here Watty.Pony and meself had health issues .Thats a fairly high % .You would change the oil in the car but not change our diets .

John if the car dies we can't pay the bills. If we die we don't have any bills..
-
Yeah, but your wife might not be able to afford the bigger coffin for your fat carcass and you'd have to have one of those 'green' funerals' where they dump you in the bog and let you rot away >:D

Used to use Debenhams for shirts. Alas, all their stores are gone now. Got a couple of XXXLs in Dunnes recently which are of reasonable quality, not up to Debenhams standard but wearable. Can't remember what they cost but it's unusual to find anything bigger than dwarf in clearance lines in any of the (online) stores, the exception being that one time in Debenhams in Newry... the Christmas before the store closed forever... I'm sure I mentioned it before but I brought a pair of shoes and several shirts to the counter and was truely shocked at how little money the attendent asked for, had to get him to double and triple check it... virtually (in the real world) giving the stuff away they were! Must have a look at that one Horse put up although I dislike buying online. There can be significant differences in quality even within the same brands in my (mostly Debenhams) experience... much better to get in front of the cloth IMO.

Have a peep at Ebay, I set up this xxxl category fer you;
https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=mens+shirts+xxxl&_sacat=0&_sop=15&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3000 (https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=mens+shirts+xxxl&_sacat=0&_sop=15&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=3000)
I usually dodge the UK ones with their poxy brexit import charges, you can set an option on the left hand side to not show certain areas of sale if you wish. I usually only use European union.
https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=mens+shirts+xxxl&_sacat=0&_sop=15&LH_ItemCondition=3000&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=3 (https://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=mens+shirts+xxxl&_sacat=0&_sop=15&LH_ItemCondition=3000&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=3)

I think the Dunnes shirts are "made small". Reminds me of the time I picked up a packet of Tesco T Shirts (for painting) and asked the female assistant if she had them in medium. For yourself, says she... yes, says I... try a few Xs before an L says she, diplomatically adding "they're made very small". I do have a couple of ASOS XXL shirts that fit but they're worn out now.

I get my long sleeve t-shirts from China in size 4XL.
PS. Let me know if you find anything interesting on the Ebay site ?

Most of them are second hand, Ken. I'm not a bleedin' charity case. Anywaysanall, I don't like buying shirts without looking at them first... although I did buy a couple from Asos (well the older not so young lad added them to his order) in the knowledge that they could be readily returned if not of acceptable quality but they were OK (only OK not great) in the end so I kept them but they're now worn out / destroyed by eating Mr. Wu's food after consuming alcoholic beverages hence demoted to DIY duties. I might try the one Horse posted under a similar assumption i.e. it's an Irish(ish) operation with easy no quibble returns. Anywaysanall, I'm not stuck for shirts at the moment and I'll probably take a trip up to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ahead of my August vacation for some summer attire but, as I'll only wear it a handful of times, I'll not be spending any great fortune. I'll possibly start with a look in the outlet stores in Banbridge and take it from there... may well end up in Primark!
-
Actually I could do with a pair of trainers, Ken. I think I recall you recommending a brand before?
-
Rodent your Northren Brethren wear a nice brand of black trouser and White Marching Shirt and a reasonable plastic soled shoe .They must be cheap as they only wear them on the one day out to replace their tracksuits and Rangers Ganzees .Dont know if you have noticed but our Prespatarian Cousins seem to prefer the longer legged trouser not to many Canada Goose thermal jackets matched with shorts and runners like their Sothern Fashionistas .

There's a famous guy around Coolock called Mr. Big, is that you? 8)

I generally get all my attire from Shaw's, excellent quality shirts from €25 to €50 and they wash well and last year's.
Them shirts from Dunne's or pennies aren't worth a fuck after one wash they fall apart, as me granny use to say if you buy cheap ya buy twice.
-
Treat Yourself to a Week in New York go to the Outlest .Quality designer shirts for about $30 Armani .Hugo Boss Ralf Lauren .Good Quality Clarks Shoes for about 80 euro the Outlet in Kildare Village .and for the larger gent .Big and Small in Inchicore beside the Black Lion shirts up to 6X .
-
Wouldn't go near Hugo boss. Didn't he design the uniforms for the SS And was a nazi party member himself?
-
Or adidas. That fcuker ratted on his brother to save his own neck at the end of the war. His brother did his time and came out and started puma, which I do buy.

I find you can't go wrong with Nike air, it does what it says on the tin.

I have my last pair about 5 years now, granted I don't walk a lot, but they are still in perfect condition.
Between the nike and my sketchers I never wear anything else these days.
-

I'm not either but ebay have by far the best selection out there.
Most of what's up there is prob house clear-outs from dead ould fella's !
-
I generally get all my attire from Shaw's,
"Almost Nationwide"...... lol lol
-
Pity that Roches Stores and
Debenhams
' closed down?
-
Those prices don't look bad at all Ken, thanks. When I read NIKE my immediate thought was to try the outlet in Banbridge but there's a store (and I think it's JD Sports, not 100% thoiugh) up above in Newry that has a pay £ price in € for cash transactions, at least they did last time I was up there. Food for thought!
... might be Jack Jones now that I think of it... it was one of those ones the youngsters use anyway!
-
They've a good jack and jones range on that site I put up rats.

Are ye short of a few bob or what.
Give the shops a bit of business and shop local.
I wouldn't say short... but the less I spend the less I need to earn... the less I need to earn, the more my colleagues/competitors earn... so not meekly surrendering to rip off Eire on my part benefits a whole trade and, indeed, an entire genetation of immigrants.
Anywaysanall, my local menswear shops go from one extreme to the other... from the Gentlemen's outfitters to Tesco i.e. formal wear / white collar workers are well catered for and (soon to be) oily rags are equally plentiful but for anything in between, suited to the working class, one would have to go as far as Swords or Drogheda. It doesn't take much longer to go to Newry or Banbridge where there's generally more choice and often better value. However, that won't last forever, our law will chucky some day... soon!

I know your a tad bigger than the XXL size John m, but I would recommend a peep at the ebay site,
there are a load of options to chose from on the left hand side as in size (up to 10XL) and area to buy from, new or used, Etc...
Personally I use EU only as the UK has the poxy brexit sales tax and outside the EU usually takes too long.

What does the measuring tape around the largest part of the belly read at ?
I just measured mine and I'm coming it at exactly 4 foot or 122cm.

Thanks, Ken. If it fits it'll be deployed on my summer vacation. I never wear short sleeves at home.... more habit than anything else now but it dates back to when I used to start work at 16:00ish, you end up with mismatched arms driving in short sleeves.

Can't remember the size on them but they were a good fit and one was bright red which proved ideal for the Monza Grand Prix last year!

Wild Haggis? Leg length discrepancies on the uphill side? What?
April 16, 2019
An old Scottish myth has it that the wild haggis (given the fitting taxonomic moniker Haggis scoticus ) is a small fictitious creature (although many folks visiting Scotland believe they are real) that has legs that are longer on one side than the other. There are two varieties: in one the right fore and hind limb are shorter and the other, of course, the left. The asymmetry helps the haggis to circumnavigate the steep mountainsides of its native terrain, but only in a clockwise (if the right legs are short) or counter clockwise (if the left legs are short) direction, so as to not roll down the steep hillside and come to an untimely death; this is purported to be one of the reasons for their near extinction (the other was the introduction of sheep).
The two species coexist peacefully but are unable to interbreed in the wild because in order for the male of one variety to mate with a female of the other, he must turn to face in the same direction as his intended mate, causing him to lose his balance before he can mount her. As a result of this difficulty, differences in leg length among the haggis population are further accentuated, as is there dwindling numbers. 8)
