My motor taxi is out today. I plan to change the taxi in January.
Do I have to get 1 years tax?
can you pay for taxi tax online?
Also do any of you ever get your tax in a county you dont live in? I always do because im only a couple of miles from a tax office in another County, but im 40 minutes from the tax office in the county I live in. But they gave me $hit about it last year, they nearly didnt let me pay for the tax even though I have always paid it in another county. maybe I just met someone in a bad mood that day Im not sure.

Yes, you can pay your motor tax online nowadays. You should have gotten an email (or letter) about it.
PSV motor tax only has 1 option - 12 months. Having said that, when I got my new private EV, I paid 3 months private motor tax and when it was transformed into a PSV taxi, they refunded me the difference and then charged me 12 months PSV motor tax. So maybe you can pay 12 months PSV motor tax and get the remaining 6 months transferred over to your new taxi in 2024?
I think motor tax is paid into a central 'piggy bank' but it's administered by the local authorities. They probably just don't want to do the work, the lazy feckers.

Hmmm. €95 v. €100's of euro private motor tax? If he had his PIN number for the motor tax website, he could have paid his PSV motor tax in 20 mins. Irony of ironies is that if he works tomorrow without the proper motor tax, he'll be working illegally and what if the other illegal taxi in his town reported him? C:-)

I had a look at the online motor tax, it seems basic enough even if you didn't get the email.

Unlikely you will go to prison, but the bummer is if you get caught the Gardai take your car from you on the spot.

Not fully correct, a Prison year is 9 months long with good behaviour, that's a Quarter off, not a Third.
(Unless it's a Debt which must be served in full).
Good behaviour meaning not assaulting a prison officer, murdering another inmate or starting a full-scale riot, anything else is acceptable !
But add on temporary release, parole, Etc and most offenders do less than half of what the judges sentence them to.

In the end I couldnt get my tax online for some reason.
I went into the co council office and as I suspected it was a matter of who you meet working there, met a lovely woman who took payment even after the office was supposed to be closed and had my tax in the post the next morning.
Last year another woman working in the co council office gave out to me saying I didnt like in the County of the co council office and should have drove 30 minutes away to the other co council office.

I went into the co council office and as I suspected it was a matter of who you meet working there, met a lovely woman who took payment even after the office was supposed to be closed and had my tax in the post the next morning.
Last year another woman working in the co council office gave out to me saying I didnt like in the County of the co council office and should have drove 30 minutes away to the other co council office.
Why would you take the chance of driving with no motor tax fer 4 weeks ?
It seems a bit mad especially as you had to pay it in the end anyway ??
