Makes sense but with no enforcement it won't work in practice. Increased promotion of (personal) transport options with lower death rates e.g. walking, (e)cycling, (e)scootering, increased automation of car controls, etc ought to be central to a measured response. I guess the alternative is to simply accept that a high death rate is unavoidable within our laissez faire system.
Given the outrage and hyped up Govt response to a few tourists getting attacked up above in Dublin it seems crazy to simply ignore the ever-increasing number of lives lost on our roads. One could conclude that it's quite evident that certain lives don't matter.

How long are you driving a taxi octy? I'm 17 years now this month and there's no way I could go back to a 9 to 5. Having to get out of bed when you don't want to. Waking up with an alarm clock. Some pox bag with a degree half your age bossing you around. I'd feel like I was back in school and I hated that. I wouldn't imagine I'd last too long. I'd end up telling my boss to stick his job up his arsehole and jump back in my cab and work or go home, whatever takes my fancy. I've become too accustomed to it now and I won't change now. The biggest change, workwise, I'd make is switching back to nights and that ain't happening anytime soon.

Ever since them lockdowns I can't stand drunk people, hate them actually. The only drunk persons company I can be in is me, myself and I. Can't see myself doing nights again. It's even worse now than it was pre pandemic and it was bad enough then.

Through the 1990s, the average weight of Americans increased by 10 pounds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The extra weight caused airlines to spend $275 million to burn 350 million more gallons of fuel in 2000 just to carry the additional weight of Americans, the federal agency estimated in a recent issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
The extra fuel burned also had an environmental impact, as an estimated 3.8 million extra tons of carbon dioxide were released into the air, according to the study.
The agency said its calculations are rough estimates, issued to highlight previously undocumented consequences of the ongoing obesity epidemic.
The estimates were calculated by determining how much fuel the 10 extra pounds of weight per passenger represented in Department of Transportation airline statistics, Burton said.

Obesity is a life-or-death struggle in the United States, the underlying cause of 400,000 deaths in 2000, a 33 percent jump from 1990. If current trends persist, it will become the nation’s No. 1 cause of preventable death, the CDC said earlier this year.
More than half — 56 percent — of U.S. adults were overweight or obese in the early 1990s, according to a CDC survey. That rose to 65 percent in a similar survey done from 1999 to 2002.
Although the Air Transport Association of America has not yet validated the CDC data, spokesman Jack Evans said the health agency’s appraisal “does not sound out of the realm of reality.”

“Just like we don’t control the costs of our fuel, we don’t control the weights of our passengers,” he said. “Passengers gain weight, but airlines are the ones that go on a diet. It’s part of the conundrum we face right now.”

But to answer your question again, the slower you go in an EV, the less energy is required to push through the wind so your mileage/range is increased compared to high speed/high wind resistance driving.

The Govt fukked up twice with the environment. The EU told the Govt they could keep their nitrates limit if they fixed the water in the rivers etc. The Govt didn't improve the river water quality so the EU took away their lattitude to pollute the rivers with cow shit.

The matter is to be reviewed before the court in early October. However, the judge stressed that Mr Burke could secure his release from prison at any time, by agreeing to stay away from the school.
