Here's a TV show that might get you to buy or borrow a TV.  Starting Thursday night at 8pm, it's a two-part show called "How The Celts Saved Britain (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00kps7h)".

Salvation:  Dan Snow reveals how the Irish saved Britain from cultural oblivion in the Dark Ages, as missionaries brought literacy and technology to Scotland and England.

St Patrick was sold as a slave to Ireland, he spent six years working as a shepherd in - it is believed now -  Mayo.
He escaped back to Wales, yet came back as a missionary to educate the pagans who had no roads, or books.
