Again, the reps of the drinks lobby are upset they can't all close at the same time.
They want to stymie the clubs' opening later and want to flood the streets with cars for approximately one hour per week and the hell with the social and economic consequences.

Yeah, 'cause 4-seater saloon taxis are the solution! I wonder if they called over to Dublin Bus about a night service?

You could add in the DART, the TRAM, and yes, DUBLIN BUS. All unionised and not as susceptible to lobbying as the taxi council.
They too would like more commission.

vintner's federation of ireland said a couple of weeks ago that the alleged shortage of taxis is brilliant.

Town is too expensive for many.Dropped some English lads to the airport last week and they were getting charged €15 for a vodka and mixer.Thr tourists will pay it but not the locals with rent.

+2,the pubs and nightclubs don't give a bollix about the other 162 hours of the week when there's rakes of cabs and they're bitchin about the 6 hours out of the whole week when there's a squeeze....which has been the same story since JC was in short pants...

I don't think they are going to get what they want. The arrogance of them is unbelievable when you think about it. They will be sent packing by the NTA. in fairness its very insulting to the NTA that these know it all vintners think they have all the answers to Irelands transport issues and I have no doubt they will talk to the NTA like they are a slow learner and need to be told what to do.
maybe I should inform the vintners about the serious issue of illegal transport operators in Ireland at the moment, that issue is hardly encouraging people to become taxi/hackneys drivers.

My email sent a few weeks ago;
To Pat Crotty and Elaina Fitzgerald Kane, members of the coalition about Taxi shortages.
From Ken Cashman, Cork city night time Taxi driver. Badge number L4447.
What I am proposing and hopefully you might agree and put forward is for all city and large town Bus routes to stay open for an extra 4 hours from 11.30pm to 3.30am on Friday and Saturday nights, to include the Sundays of bank holiday weekends, + 16th/17th March and 26th/31st December as the taxies alone cannot cope with the demand at these times.
Double the bus fare price after midnight and Double the bus driver's salary and possibly put a security guard on every bus after midnight.
If the above was implemented there would be little talk on the radio or press ever again about shortages of taxies.
The simple solution for everyone is just to get more taxies, but the problem is that it is only for the 8 hours per week as mentioned above that there is a shortage of taxies, for the rest of the week Taxi drivers are waiting around for fares.
Best, Ken.

No geographical test. We fucked

It's all fun and games until someone wants to go to Leonard's Corner (not on Google maps) or goes looking for a Sunday Pharmacy (Google is mostly wrong) or some alco is looking for an early early house or some English gits want to go to a brothel... the list goes on.

Google can't find the A&E at Beaumont Hospital. It sends FN drivers to 24, Montrose Drive. I'd hate to live there.
It says Larch Hill in Coolock is in Lorcan Green in Santry.
Google can't find the D-Doc primary care centre on Cromcastle Road.
Google sends food and taxis to a school behind my house.
It thinks Inns quay is the dry canal bank in Phibsboro.

A lot of it makes sense, I guess... particularly the Kathleen Doyle geography exam. I could never understand why that mean and nasty lady decided new entrants needed far better area knowledge than incumbents... well, I could really, it's an artificial barrier to entry because no (local) authority can restrict numbers in line with available infrastructure save DAA.
However, a driving test every 2 years might be an idea. It's quite obvious that most taxi drivers have never passed any relevant test and that the vast majority have scant, if any, regard for the rules of the road.

When are we going to lobby the government to make changes in the pub and restaurant trade?
-
Some constantly lobby for staggered closing times. I find it quaint that they seem to believe all pubs close at closing time!
-
Have any of you text Newstalk about this, as in that there is no shortage of taxis? and sent them the screenshots of all the taxis available?
-
... and complain about pubs allegedly closing at similar times, them publicans haven't a clue...

The people who have drunk a shed load of drinks, plus snorted loads of low-quality cocaine in suburban pubs are turfed out on the street at circa 01.30-02.30. They are not ready to go home, they want to party until dawn.
The morons pushing the last legal drug totally oppose nightclubs staying open until six because it affects their bottom line.
Where else in the world do bar owners hold such sway over government policy?
Restaurants should have a late licence to serve food and drink, again facing stiff competition from pseudo-terrorist organisations like the IVF, and the LVA who stop serving food around nine.
A backward kip.
Jack Nicholson was right:

I haven't texted anybody but I have emailed my thoughts (as above, reply no 7) to all relative parties.
Have you 1990 ?
