I reckon RC will have a warm fuzzy feeling in his trousers when he reads that story.  Probably will be one of the first volunteers  lol

Some 1,500 drivers are to be asked to take part in a pilot deployment of new in-car technology, to be announced on Thursday.

Using equipment installed directly in cars or operated through a smartphone app connected to the dashboard, road operators based in the State’s Motorway Traffic Control Centre will be able to track vehicles and send safety alerts to motorists in real time.

The safety alerts will display messages relating to collisions, congestion, stationary vehicles, road works, and hazardous weather.

Participants will be rewarded for providing regular feedback throughout the pilot project. Motorists are invited to register their interest in participating in the pilot by logging on to cits.tii.ie and completing a survey aimed at assessing their suitability to participate.

Interesting that there's no RSA logo among all the sponsors. Obviously, the extent to which these things prove to be a distraction ought to be a primary concern. At this stage we're all used to observing taxis meandering out of control while their drivers are fixated on their rideshare apps.... although I guess RSAs apparent lack of interest could be merely a brown envelope issue?

Got 2 replies as below but when I follow the Reset Password link as instructed all I get is an error message reading "Invalid Token" so I've told them that and am awaiting their response!

1:

Hello,

Thank you for registering your interest as an OBU user in the C-ITS Pilot Programme.

We have received far more OBU applications than there are OBUs available. We have therefore changed your application to a Smartphone App user. You will receive an email shortly notifying you of next steps.

If you do not wish to participate in the pilot as a Smartphone user, then you do not need to progress with the on-boarding process.

Our team is working to purchase more OBUs for use, and we may be in touch later this year to see if you are still interested in having an OBU installed.

Please feel free to reach out to our team with any further questions.

Best,

C-ITS Pilot Team

All very interesting, but when, exactly, does one get to fly a plane?
