I can keep my W.C. taxi until it is 15 years old, but if I change my taxi, can it be over 5 years old? could I buy a 10 year old wheelchair taxi?

If I remember correctly and its years since i knew the Goodbody Report For Batum as in word for word .I think you cannot replace a vehicle with an older vehicle but I could be wrong .Unlikely because I an anal retentive but possible I could be wrong .So as far as i know if you have a wanked out Wheelie that is ten year old but has a death sentence of fifteen you cannot replace it with an older vehicle .I am not sure any age extension granted as a result of covid would be transferable onto a replacement vehicle .
Now here is a thing Lets say Big Dommo has a Renault Fluence with 160K on the clock ready for scrapping and you have a 2020 one with 600k on the clock .What is to stop you doing an engine swap cost about 1K from a back street spanner jockey .You are scrapping a Vin mumber and chasse and number plate does what you are scrapping even have to have an engine to get a cert .Could the engine be on the back seat ?
-
yeah I wouldnt worry about swapping an engine like that but for some reason I have it in my head that if I replace my taxi, it has to be no older than 5 years old. I dont think I could replace a 13 year old car with a 12 year old car.

Change of Vehicle: Any change of vehicle for a WAV must be:
• to a vehicle *no older than the vehicle being replaced (“sliding scale”); and
• under 10 years of age.
Grant Funding: To qualify for Grant funding, WAVs must be under 6 years at the time of licensing. Applicants
must also hold a valid Provisional Grant Offer.

@Belker thanks for that.
it was the grant that was making me think it couldnt be more than 5 years old.

Is your heap giving you grief 1990 ?
I traded up my 08 Avensis with a 15 year license back in 2020 after only using 12 of the 15 years allowed because it had emmission and steering problems, in hindsight I should have got it repaired properly and kept it going, with the covid extensions it would still be on the road today and prob up till 2026.

No, not at all, its going great, I think I will keep it another year. 352,000 miles on it now, hasnt caused me any real problems the last 2 years.
Are you still having DPF issues or did you replace the DPF?
-
Eventually bit the bullet and replaced it just before Chrimbo, the bill was a shocker ! ::fds

€300 to get it taken out and remapped.
The replacement will cause the same problems.

Yea, I know but I was afraid the thing would not pass NCT and end up costing me more to have it put back in. ::fds

It would pass.
My new dpf only lasted me 1 year after spending €1000 on it.

They reckon the adblue causes similar issues and you have to get it taken out as well.
