An oul wan was going from Willow Park Avenue in Glasnevin (north) to Ridgewood.
Sat-Nav said straight down Ballymun Avenue Glasnevin Avenue and all the way down Collins Avenue to the M1 junction.
I turned left through Ballymun onto the back Road of the airport, left onto the old Swords Road, left again onto the Naul Road, right onto Forest Road, and left into Ridgewood.
At this point she started slurring about all the other drivers going the other route etc.
I said if you think I'm going the long way I'll charge you the lower Free now estimate. €28-€34.
We got there it was €26.60....and I got a 10% tip. >:D
p.s. it's gas how some people are so used to getting it one way, they are surprised when they're taken another. 8)

It's been said before but this is a neck-down job. Sometimes you're better off not displaying your talents and just asking them if they prefer route A or B. Then if there's any traffic jams, it's their fault for picking the route!

I used to do jobs from Foxrock that were fixed. If it was on the meter I'd take the M50 to the M1. fixed fares got brought the shortest route which was the back road, along the perimeter fence, and onto the Swords Road.
-
Spending longer to take less... makes sense... probably!
-
Some people don't know the short cuts. Some follow the sat-nav, like Usho Igo from Nigeria.
-
I had 2 people ask me to go what they thought was the shortest route lately, both foreigners, no problem I said, we are supposed to go whatever route they ask so that is the route I go. Both times they picked really stupid longer routes and it added a few euro to their fare.
its not that I thought oh great im going to get an extra euro or 2, its that they would have started fighting with me over it, I just drove and listened to the radio.
-
I deliberately don't take short cuts most of the time even in areas I used to deliver pizzas in.
I've discovered that punters complain if they don't recognise the route you are taking.

I had a private job going home from the 2016 Ed Sheeran concert, a family of 4 that I had brought in earlier, I took a right chance knowing the roads in Mahon and drove away from the venue fer a km against oncoming standing still traffic before cutting in to numerous housing estates (in total silence, ....... with the sweat rolling down my back) and eventually coming out way ahead of all the stalled traffic..
Nothing was said as everyone (even me) were gobsmacked at what I had done and what I had achieved, after a minute I said out loud to everyone; "Thank you Mister Taximan !".
