Had a non payer from Free Now last evening - pair of drunk/high burds from West Kilmore to Clongriffin. On top of losing the €18.90 fare (or giving them a free lift, whatever way you want to look at it) I've had to enter €1.00 received to clear the Free Now job. Going through the help screens in the Free Now app eventually advises using a non-existent help button (as below). I wonder how many drivers bother pursuing their 15c beyond that dead end?

my last freenow runner.
an english yoke on a drug run from clongriffin to ballymun.
it was the friend's account.
back at clongriffin fare was thirty sumtin. she hands me shrapnel and says i'll go in and get the rest and never came back out.
i contacted free now and they usually say contact the coppers but i said that she was a lovely yungwan and i didn't wanna get her in trouble. she probably had every intention of coming back out but nodded off after bangin up etc. they got back to me and said they gave my number to them and they'd contact you about the lolly tomorrow. my phone rang with a number i didn't recognise the next day. it was probably them but it happenned to be my day off and i wanted leavin alone so i said me bollocks about it.

The last one I had was years ago in Darndale. They told me I can block the passenger for myself but they won't block him from other drivers. I heard that same response from other drivers much more recently. Seemingly, they can block a customer completely if he owes them a surge fee - even as little as €1.00 - but not if he owes 26,675 drivers fares totaling €1,000,000+.

Where in KW, and was it to Marrsfield, which is riddled with junkies and down and outs?

I prefer WK to KW... seems to sit better with the snobs in EK.

Trying to champion the cause of the working man is all, Octy. How many 15centseses do Free Now trouser 'cos men can't be arsed?
... and it really gets my goat how they can block a client if he owes them as little as €1.00 in surge fees yet not if he owes drivers money. One such driver I spoke with in the real world was owed €70 from a runner in West Finglas.

No matter how you put it they're all corpo gaffs. Kilmore is the left after Kilmore court off Kilmore Road. My mate told the Gardaí he was from Kilmore - The purchased houses -, so they knew he wasn't scum...which he was!!
There's no East Kilmore, South Kilmore, or East Kilmore, simply Kilmore.
Where on Kilbarron did you get the runners? There's a burned out gaff beside the church which used to house crackheads and a junkie house around the 50's on the Park.

I'm kinda glad in a way thay don't block 'em, I had a €51.20 runner in Feb 2023, I'll catch that Fookin scote yet !!

I'm waiting, his job will show again some night and I will take it and ring Togher Garda station on the way to collect him telling them the details of the previous job and then calling in to the Togher Garda station as it's on his route home.

I reckon he has you blocked Ken. You are NEVER getting that dollar. You know it, I know it and yer man definitely knows it. You were taken to the cleaners, end of story.

Is there a statue of limitations on 'runners'? Imagine the Guard's reaction when he picks up the phone at 2am and hears Belker telling him about a nearly 2 year old grudge concerning a runner?
Let it go, Belker. Karma will get him!
-
Karma won't get shit. Ken got taken for a ride, literally. Yer man got off Scott free and well he knows it. Meanwhile Ken still thinks he'll get it back. He should wise up and realise he got stung. Badly.

I'm not that terribly worried about it Watty but if the situation arises that I ever do get the scrote in the cab again then I will nail him.

I had a late night fare a few weeks back, 3 lads all going Southside with the last fella going to a village down South, the end fare was €45 but yer-man-o only had €30 in cash and tried to pay the remaining €15 by card which after numerous attempts did not work. I took his phone number and told him that I would send him a sum-up link to pay the remaining €15 tomorrow, which I did and also sent him a text to tell him of the payment link.
He didn't pay and I didn't really care and never chased it again. Then last weekend this fella on a street hail sits in to the cab, I didn't recognise him from Adam and he starts with; "I know you, I owe you €15 from a few weeks ago" which he paid straight away in cash.
-
A happy ending Ken, nice one.

Same here. Picked up two crackheads going to the garage and back. Bunratty, the Doc would probably know the address.
Anyhoo, the main geezer says "I left you two euro short the last time, sorry about that". He paid up alongside a tip.
I'd no idea what the f**k he was talking about, but took the money anyway. 8)

It was a (corpo built) private residence on the Avenue, SB.... both burds white Irish born.
I got my 15c back anyway and a reply asking how much the fare was. I only got round to replying yesterday... fare was €18.60.

I've noticed a lot more multiculturalism in my workplace (generally Coolock, Santry, Artane, Edenmore, Raheny sort of thing) in recent months. I guess Santry has been largely integrated for some time but it's definitely spreading to Coolock, even within the "rougher" council built housing schemes. In fact, I was only thinking that to myself the other week while watching a game of Cricket on the playing fields on Oscar Traynor Rd while stuck in traffic. Cricket - in the heart of Coolock - I kid you not! You'd be forgiven for wondering if Govt are sneaking the immigrants into existing housing schemes under the cover of darkness while the far right protesters are looking the other way i.e. at the former paint factory?

Dublin is changing fast...I picked up three Americans from an Airbnb from the corpo gaffs in Ballymun/Santry lane the other day.
-
The world is becoming a smaller place. Ifn you were retired with a corpo gaff in Dublin you could probably airBnB it for double what you'd rent a well located apartment in sunnier climes for a few months.
-
Airbnb is a massive money-spinner if'n you have a decent gaff to rent.
I know of a young Cork lad on a 4 week apprenticeship in Limerick with 2 other colleagues that pay €180 a week each to rent a well maintained 3 bed house from Monday afternoon till Friday morning, that's €540 a week and the landlord then gets to rent the gaff out again every weekend, that one house alone must be bringing in the guts of a grand a week.

Got another reply from the depot:
Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your response.
I'm really sorry to hear that the passenger left without paying you. We don't tolerate this behaviour at all.
Unfortunately, we're unable to charge the user's card after the trip has taken place to recover payment, but I've taken the necessary measures internally to prevent this from happening again.
Inside the trip details, you can block this passenger to ensure that you don't longer receive their requests.
On this occasion I've adjusted the service fare for this service. In the future I recommend you always double check the payment screen and only tap on the 'Payment received' option once you've collected it fully, otherwise, you can still selecting 'Switch to app payment'. If this is successful, FREENOW will charge the amount on your behalf. Find out more information on our Help Centre.
If you need further help, please don't hesitate to write us back.
Have a great day!
To which I have replied:
Hi *****,
Thank you for your reply.
The internal measures you mention is rather intriguing. I’d be obliged if you could explain the same in more detail.
I did double, triple and (dare I say it) quadruple check the fare entered before pressing the button. Alas, the app wouldn’t permit any fare entry below €1.00 hence it is impossible to enter the correct fare as you suggest when the amount received is €0.00. If there is some method of entering €0.00 I’d be obliged if you could explain the same.
To switch a payment from cash to card requires confirmation from the client on their app hence is not an option in such circumstances as the client isn’t able or willing to pay.
Your attention to the above is very much appreciated and I look forward to your response.
Regards,
Stephen

I wonder if this is still official policy?

Got a further response as follows:
Hello Stephen.
Thanks for your response.
Unfortunately it's not possible to charge €0 for a trip and you need to put a minimum fare of €1. Once this happens, please inform us of the incident and we will manually adjust it so you aren't charged any commission.
Changing payment method requires confirmation but it's only recommended to do when the passenger doesn't have cash and wants to pay with card. If it's an incident of a runaway, unfortunately it won't work.
We appreciate your feedback and this is vital for us to improve our services and features for drivers.
We also recommend that you take part in our driver surveys and focus groups to help us improve.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
If there is anything else I can assist you with please do not hesitate to let me know.
Best Regards,
To which I have replied:
Hi *****,
Thank you for reaching back to me.
I don’t which to be argumentative but the substance of your response merely repeats what I told you in reply to your initial questionable suggestions. I note that you haven’t expanded on the nature of the “necessary measures internally to prevent this from happening again” you have taken. I would still be interested to know what the same entails.
In any event, I had a broadly similar issue on Friday evening. In respect of the job as per the attached screenshot the correct fare is €0.00 as, due to issues with the client, I opted to terminate the fare on a FOC basis after leg one of an intended multi-leg ride. In this instance the minimum fare the app would allow me input was €3.80 so I entered €3.88 (so it would stick out and jog my somewhat unreliable memory). I’d be obliged if you could edit the same, thereby reversing commission charged on the amount not received.
Another unrelated issue which is proving to be quite frustrating on occasion is the updated limited availability of the “Arrived” button during the course of processing a job. As the button is now geographically restricted I have found it necessary, on encountering inconsistent connectivity, to ask clients if they are paying through the app and, if they are, explain that we must wait for the button to magically enable itself before commencing the ride. Murphy’s law dictates that it only seems to happen on “account” jobs.
Your attention to the above is very much appreciated and I look forward to your response.
Regards,
Stephen.

Got a very quick reply yesterday:
Hello Stephen.
Thanks for your response.
This is always escalated to our Driver team who will act accordingly. Due to GDPR, we aren't able to provide information about internal procedures or actions that are taken on the passenger's accounts.
We’re currently aware of said issues and are investigating them. We’re also working actively to ensure they are fixed as soon as possible.
We have adjusted this fare so you will not be charged commission.
We deeply apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience so far.
Best regards,
-
Could we set up a database of runners and all the information associated with them? It might be funny to see FN's reaction when we show the scale of drug abuse their platform is associated with.

Interestingly I got my €18.60. Not sure if they collected it from the client or paid it as a goodwill gesture but I'm no longer out of pocket either way. Credit where credit is due!

@ Rat Catcher,
As much as I enjoyed your eloquently put debacle with FN and delighted that you came out on top financially, may I offer you one tiny piece of advice fer the future. Do not put in multiple complaints in one email because by doing so you are giving your opponent the opportunity pick the one that suits them best to answer and ignore the remainder.
On looking back over the FN responses, they actually answered nothing at all unless you consider GDRP to be an answer mingled in with a few auto responses and then they threw the lost fare of €18.60 at you to shut you up.
