If he was a taxi driver he would lose his licence .Or if he was a soldier Mick from Cork would be calling for his head but he is a senator .WILL HE BE FUCKED OUT OF FG ?A High Court jury has awarded a man €39,000 against Fine Gael Senator John McGahon over a late night assault outside a pub.
Farmer Breen White, from Castleblaney, Co Monaghan, sued Mr McGahon for assault and battery outside the Rum House pub in Dundalk, Co Louth, on June 16, 2018.
Mr McGahon (33), who was elected to the Seanad subsequent to the incident, denied the claims and said he was assaulted and acted in self defence.

I agree that money buys you 'justice' but this is a bit of a non-story. Read it a few hours ago but can't see it now on the main sites. Even the Indo aren't making a fuss about it & they love to do the 'high & mighty' on someone who's fallen.
The judge probably made the right decision. A bit of a 'he said, she said' fight/scuffle outside the pub at 2am? The Senator has to pay €38k. Sending him to jail wouldn't have served any purpose. Plenty of politicians have survived drink-driving charges over the years and that's probably more serious?

Are you sure? I can't see any stories about him getting done for affray. Looks to me like the Senator was found innocent after a criminal trial. The farmer then sued the Senator in a private lawsuit and won his case and the money.

Yeah, I did think after I posted €39k was a lot for a civil case. From memory, I think the jury split the blame 65% Senator / 35% farmer? It's an odd one. Even since pubs and chippers have been invented, man have been fighting over women at 2am and it's usually all forgotten about the next day. Or until the next GAA match :P

It's strange the way RTE news keep saying yer man is a taxi driver in the present tense like he's still on the road picking up customers.
When one of their own was up for child abuse charges recently they were quick to describe him as a former RTE producer.

Minister for Justice now says she is looking at Mandatory CCTV in taxis .Whoever has the contract from the last time must be happy .
Its a Huge issue do you want to be spied on in your place of work .Will these cameras have Facial recognition and if we have wanted criminals on board could we be involved with Gun hungry Garda the likes of those who murdered the black man in Blanchardstown trying to make arrests in your car .Then you add in the Hate Laws they are introducing .If you have a conversation with some nutter and you reply telling him what he wants to hear to keep yourself safe can you be charged with hate speech .
I picked up a lady yesterday from a maternity hospital asked her how long she had to go .Now was that out of order as I could be enquiring how long ago did she get fucked .Or the reason I did ask was in case she had any issue and I needed to get her back to hospital or inform an Ambulance man I would know and that information might help .

Or will the CCTV be connected up to the meter so it comes on when you have a fare .That will let lads or Girls who do not want to be recorded tell us to leave the meter off and we can give them a written Quote .

OCCI Teslas real value was that each car had multiple cameras to monitor everything as they moved .Think if the Gards in Oklahome were able to upload all the wanted criminals and as Tesla Cars drove around they could use Facial Recognition .You wouldnt have a clue what softwear was operating on the system .Police Pay Tesla a bounty for every criminal detyected .Now that would be the same here .Cameras filming as we drive .How long before people stop using Taxis to protect their privacy not wanting to be recorded .

Remember the last proposal about a Grand for the unit that uploads in real time to a server and an annual fee to be paid by us .Like I said will they put Cameras in Confession Boxes and if not why not .More people sexually abused by Clergy than taxi drivers .

CCTV cameras in taxis explored as garda chief fears there may be more victims of rapist Raymond Shorten
Taoiseach Simon Harris will also oversee an urgent review of safety measures in taxis after predator Raymond Shorten (50) was jailed for 17 years yesterday for targeting two women after they spent nights out in Dublin city centre.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) will carry out a review of the need for mandatory safety equipment such as CCTV in taxis after a driver was convicted of raping two young women in his car.
Taoiseach Simon Harris will also oversee an urgent review of safety measures in taxis after predator Raymond Shorten (50) was jailed for 17 years yesterday for targeting two women after they spent nights out in Dublin city centre.
WHAT GARDA SAID ABOUT TAXI DRIVERS ..An Gardai Siochana went on to say that there are approximately 13,500 SPSV driver licences issued in the Dublin region, and that the “vast majority of taxi drivers are professional, respectful and honest and provide a safe transport service for the public.”
BEWARE LIKE I SAID THIS IS A PLOY BY THE STATE TO RECRUIT THOUSANDS OF MOBILE DATA COLLECTORS to get taxis to spy on people .SAY NO to mandatory CCTV .

Dear Taoiseach , The Mandatory installation of CCTV in taxis is an loss of Civil Liberties possibly illegal as it infringes on a persons right to privacy .
The over reaction to the recent disgusting events by certain Politicians is exactly why Politics is in the Gutter .Will Software be installed that uses Facial recognition so as Taxis drive around the Country they can recognise wanted Criminals and inform the Garda .Will conversations be recorded by Passengers or Private Phone calls recorded in taxi .
Will you be suggesting fitting CCTV in Confession Boxes as more people have been Raped Buggered fingered and fiddled with by Priests that Taxi Drivers .
Whatever happened to FG personal Responsibility .Why not introduce legislation to prevent Pubs from selling alcohol to already Drunk People OH yes they have a strong Lobby and a Few TD own Pubs thats why .
What occurred in the Taxi was vile but I think no matter where that Animal worked Women would not be safe .
Your Knee Jerk Soundbite Politics in this matter wont solve Drunk venerable women in society .And the Civil rights denial undertones will not go un noticed by Civil Bodies In fact if this Proposal ever sees the light of Day I will oppose it .I will also Contact every Embassy in Ireland making them aware that their Citizens are being monitored and recorded by the State .

Thers an easy fix to cameras
Yes the easy solution is Let drivers fit them if they want then remove the restriction on Door stickers and let them advertise they have CCTV fitted .Give the Passenger a Choice .Think about a CCTV system that would work the Data would have to be uploaded so we would have to Pay for Wi Fi connection .Need at least another 3 notes on pick up to cover the costs .Do you think people will pay that ? Or will we ?My issue is My civil Liberty I would be monitored in what I say and do in my daily workplace while others would not .
What do you think Journalists would say or do if they had CCTV in their office and their conversations were monitored ?

Connect the Camera to the meter .The meter starts the camera starts .So any bogey going for drugs down the flats says leave the meter off mate .It simply would not work I would be offering off the meter fares to everybody and issuing waiver forms to stay legal if it was connected to meter .

Additionally, individuals with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, from the area within the timeframe are asked to provide footage to investigating Gardaí.You would then be called as a withness to verify that your camera took this film possibly making you a target for revenge SAY NO TO MANDATORY CCTV in Taxis .

The lady you picked up at the hospital could merely have been a visitor, and you could be charged with fat-shaming.

Something similar is already happening in America.
1. Whenever there's a protest the police don't like, they contact all the mobile phone/email companies and ask for demand a list of phones that 'pinged' the local mobile phone masts. So they might be looking for 1 person but they end up with a list of, say, 1,000 people. Suddenly all those people are suspects and the police treat them like that. There's even rumours the police set up their own fake mobile masts to capture people's phone details.
2. Same with the internet doorbells. Anytime there's a crime, the police just go round and collect all the videos. Again, they're usually looking for 1 guy but now they have the movements of everybody in the neighbourhood. And if you refuse, word goes around that 'Bob in #22' didn't help the police so he must be dodgy and everyone is now giving you the stinkeye!
It's gone from a situation where you're innocent until proven guilty to one where the police treat you as a suspect until you prove you're innocent.

I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. There was something like 17 sexual assaults in the last year (or was it 5 years). Out of how many million taxi journeys? Instead of getting 26,000 innocent taxi drivers to spend €1,000 on CCTV, why not beef up vetting or make it an annual thing? Or re-vet when we renew our 5 year licence?
Has CCTV on buses stopped assaults or drug taking? Or reduced them significantly?
And considering that 90% of card machines seem to break down each night once the sun sets, I suspect any CCTV will suffer a similar fate? If you're determined to rape someone, you'll probably plan it and work out how to dodge the CCTV or disable it.

Your driving YOUR car with YOUR Camera .So who owns the DATA YOu COLLECTED ?Will an Insurance Company pay you lets say 500 for YOUR Data to prove who caused an accident you are not involved in .It could save them thousands in Claims and Legal Fees .

It could be worser. The Guards already know your mobile number and could get a list of all taxi drivers within a mile of a crime/assault. Imagine then getting a text message Monday morning to turn up at a Garda Station so your footage could be downloaded. You'd probably have to go to court as a witness to prove the chain of custody of the video footage. You'd be the weak link in the custody chain if the bad guys were looking for a weak link to break!
Now imagine working nights in the city centre and getting a text message every Monday morning for the fight outside Pub X or Chipper Y!
We know from America and the UK that police tend to abuse their mass surveillance powers so it could happen here?

I watched a friend's funeral on the internet because of Covid-19 restrictions. I then drove to the church to watch the small cortege pass by.
