You'd expect as in years gone by that the town would be rammed with culchies "up for the game".
I worked last night and saw a few people outside of the culchie hotspot - McGowans, thinking, it's 03.30 they'll all be spilling out now.
Nope, the few bodies outside were actually the last out of the kip.
And a necklace of yellow taxi lights around the city. The place has gone to sh*t. ::fds

3.30am FFS.That's when the electricity is cheapest for your car on the home charger.
Maybe not as many of the fans can afford to be up for two nights and just come up on match day.Anytime I found myself in MgGowans on a match day the culchies would be trying to box the head off each other for no reason.Bleeding savages.
Friday day was quiet enough.Saturday ok and busy this morning for the few hours I did.A lot of red jerseys around O Connell strret at midday.Maybe they were collecting tickets or something?

SOME GAME .
-
Devils Advocate: Didn't see it but was it that great a game? Each team scored over ~35 points each which is about a point every 60-90 seconds. Was there any defence? Or did the goalie just puck it out to a forward who turned around and knocked it over the bar? And repeat 70 times?
-
It was a great game, even in injury time, they still played like it was the first half.

It was indeed a great game but ended in bitter, bitter dissapointment !
-
The place has been absolutely Buzzing down here since we unexpectantly bate Limerick in the Semi.
Every premises and most houses in the city and county sported the Red and White colours in some form.
I worked the early Sunday morning shift to get me Cork Homies on to their respective trains and buses on time, buying a lovely nua stetson red and white cowboy hat at the aircoach stop from a hawker to replace my shabby 13 year old one.
With my job done with great craic on most fares, and all trains and buses departed, I'm off home fer a nap at 8.30am.

Nua Stetson hat on and back out to work at 1pm to again get me Cork homies to their respective watering holes, the craic and the buzz was overwhelming. By 2pm with the sun shining gloriously upon us the inner city was a total sea of Red and White bodies, eveyone in great form and all seemed ultra confident of the win.
-
I watched the match at home on my PC RTE player thing, when the ref blew the final whistle I turned it off not wishing to hear any match analysis or Fooking post-mortem's. 'Fuming' I was out the door and in the car within 2 minutes of match end.
To add insult to injury what had been a lovely sunny day at throw-in time, it was now dreary pissing rain down in Cork. I picked up both app and street fares fer the next few hours, I didn't speak, they didn't speak, most fares were done in total silence. There was a horrendous Glum cloud hanging over the city fer a few hours.
-
By 10pm the dreary rain subsided and darkness had descended, even though we had been baten fair and square, the party was still on !
Very few patrons went home after our bitter defeat, but instead were joined by our travelling Rebel fleet arriving home from their Croker excursion by bus and train, and then the party really started !
It was total mayhem in the pubs and carnage on the streets down here from 10pm till when I finished up at 4.30am, and the party was far from over at 4.30am !!
-
Thought it was going to be a rout with only one team turning up in the first 15 minutes counting me winnings but THEN !Fabulous game and looking at the mixed Supporters in the stands makes you proud we are sportspeople not tribal gangs like other sports .Great Game Two Great Teams .

Youse woz robbed (maybe) - Eamonn Sweeney: Referee takes centre stage as Cork robbed of replay after thrilling All-Ireland SHC final duel (https://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/hurling/eamonn-sweeney-referee-takes-centre-stage-as-cork-robbed-of-replay-after-thrilling-all-ireland-shc-final-duel/a975246246.html)
Cork were robbed of an All-Ireland final replay by the worst end-of-game refereeing decision since Joe Sheridan’s goal against Louth was allowed in the 2010 Leinster football final. Conor Leen clearly pulled Robbie O’Flynn’s jersey in the last seconds of extra-time as the Cork sub shot for a levelling point. But Limerick referee Johnny Murphy decided not to award a free. One of the greatest seasons in hurling history ended on the sour note of a wrong decision.
That’s not to take away from the victory of a marvellous Clare team who were marginally the better side over 90 minutes. They deserved their victory on the balance of play.
And in case you don't know what it looks like when a man grabs another man's jersey, The Indo helpfully included a photo...

A passengeron Sunday night told me that the hurley makers know the various different bas sizes that different count teams use. Below are the rules.

Do some hurlers use kids hurls? the cork guys one looks small.
There was a guy on the radio talking about it last week. I think the first hurleys were long and thin like today's field hockey stick. Over time, the shaft got shorter and shorter and the bas got thicker. Nowadays, hurling is maybe a bit like rugby where errors can win or lose a game so maybe the forwards tend towards a shorter hurley for accuracy?

They all have straw balls

You would imagine a longer hurl would be better for distance.
-
Yeah it would be but the modern hurler is a super-athlete and wouldn't need help in hitting the sliotar far. It's accuracy they're after to get it between the posts?

That would be correct but fer accuracy then a shorter hurley is better.
I was pretty amazed last Sunday at how short some of the hurley's were.

The lads who use kids hurls probably still have stabilisers on their bicycles and sleep in beds like this.
