Electric scooters, mopeds seized in Dublin operation

The vehicles were seized for a number of offences
Gardaí have seized 41 electric mopeds and scooters during an operation in Dublin.

In a statement, they said the vehicles were seized for a number of offences under the revised Road Traffic and Roads Act.

These include the exceeding of maximum permitted design speed or power output as well as throttle-assisted e-mopeds that were unregistered and uninsured.

The 33 e-mopeds and eight e-scooters were recovered over a number of days this week across the Dublin area.

The garda statement added that that "while e-scooters and e-mopeds are now a common choice for commuters, it is important that those that are used are well regulated and safe.

"Always ensure that your choice of transport complies with the law, so all road users including yourself are safe," it added.

New regulations allowing the use of e-scooters in public places came into effect earlier this year.

The ordinary speed limit is set at 20km per hour and there are strict requirements around braking and lighting.

The regulations also prohibit the use of an e-scooter by more than one person at the same time, under 16s are banned from using them in public areas and they must not be fitted with a seat.

The vehicles must be safe and roadworthy and not "endanger, impede or inconvenience the driver, other road users or members of the public".

I don't mind them as long as they ride them carefully. So many have no lights and all dressed in black in the dark.Lights are very cheap but nobody wants to use them.It would be great if the cops would start enforcing the law before more of the scooter gimps get wiped out.

Those two kids down in Waterford left a full head print on the bus windscreen when they were killed. Many more to come.

I hate everything about E scooters, the laziness, the upright stance, the oppurtunism of something new, the arrogance, and rule breaking of the riders. Dalek voice "Exterminate, exterminate"

EVbikes .Eusebio Valdarama or whatever his name is is Peddeling more than a Bike .When Hutch and Kinahans were busy The Columbians saw an opportunity to move in to Ireland .Recruited stone broke Brazilians with access to Portugese or Italian Passports to come Peddel in Dublin .Where would a poor man in Brazil get enough money for a College course to learm English,A Deposit for a Gaff and the few Grand for an Electric Bike .Delivery Cyclist being attacked its not to rob the Food ? There might be a bit more to clamping down on EBikes than road safety .Remember when we had all the Rickies doing Drugs most replaced by E Bikes .You see some lad on a bike going out the Chapelizod Bypass do you really think he is delivering a hot dinner ?

Dunno there's probably a lot more fat people than drug users. My Uber eats app is constantly pestering me to order off them. They're not really cycling those bikes wearing all that rain gear. You'd need to be in shorts if you were doing that mileage and speed by pedalling.

The e bikes are fairly quick.I'm sure you've all been behind an e bike doing 50 in the bus lane with no lights.Very easy for them to get into a row with the local kids when they're on the footpath a lot of the time. You'd get a good set of lights for a tenner but they all like to dress in dark clothes like they're on a fukkin Navy seal mission.I wouldn't be surprised if they put black paint on their faces as well.

My pet hate, electric scooters and electric bikes, what happened to cause them to become ubiquitous very suddenly, as electric wheelchairs and that tech had been around for a long time?

Man (30S) Who Died In Co Tipperary Collision On Ride-On Lawnmower Named Locally
Kieran McArdle, who was from Ballypatrick, Clonmel, was killed on Friday night on the N76 at Kilcash Cross at 9.50 pm.

A man in his 30s, who died following a crash between a ride-on-lawnmower and a car in Co Tipperary, has been named locally.

Kieran McArdle, who was from Ballypatrick, Clonmel, was killed on Friday night on the N76 at Kilcash Cross at 9.50 pm.

The collision site is just eight kilometers from Clonmel and 11 kilometres from Carrick-on-Suir.

It is understood that Mr McArdle had borrowed the ride-on-lawn mower to cut the grass in a communal area at Kilcash Cross - located just two kilometres from where he lived.

In a cruel twist of fate, the driver of the car, also involved in the fatal collision, is a 20-year-old man who lives close to the deceased man.

Paying tribute to Mr McArdle, Labour councillor Michael Brennan from Carrick-on-Suir said: “The man comes from a lovely family and the entire community in the area is devastated over what has happened. Everyone’s thoughts of course are with everyone affected by the freak incident.”

Fine Gael councillor and Cathaoirleach of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Mark Fitzgerald added: “This is a very tragic accident for the family of the man who died and for the driver of the car involved.

“My sympathies go absolutely to all the families and friends of the two men. Our prayers are with them all.”

Mr McArdle’s body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

There were no other injuries reported at the time of the accident.

David Dunne, Leas Cathaoirleach of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District continued: “I would like to offer my sympathies to those involved in this tragic event. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.”

The road which was closed for several hours to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, has since reopened.

Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area on the N76 between 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Clonmel Garda Station on (052) 6177640, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Mown down? 8)

Do ride-on lawnmowers have lights?  Are domestic ones insured for the road?  That crash happened on the M76 National Primary road at 9.50pm!

And then there's this: Teenager seriously injured after collision between moped and car in Dublin city (https://www.dublinlive.ie/news/dublin-news/teenager-seriously-injured-after-collision-31415401) (at 3.35am)

Two teenagers have been injured following a collision between a moped and a car in Dublin city.  The incident occurred on Sean McDermott Street, Dublin 1, at approximately 3:35am this morning, Sunday 13th April. The driver of the moped, a male aged in his teens, has been taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for serious injuries.  The passenger of the moped, a male aged in his teens, has been taken to the Mater Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries have been reported.  A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.  "Due to an earlier interaction between the vehicle involved in this collision and An Garda Síochána, a referral has been made to Fiosrú - the Office of the Police Ombudsman."

3.30am Sunday morning, moped with 2 kids on boards, a possible stolen car and Sean McDermott St.  What could possibly go wrong!

Wrong end of the country?  Crash was near Clonmel while your car salesman was up near Monaghan/Castleblayney?  He could have moved in the interim of course?

The court case was 20 years ago, so i guess he could have moved.

Lots of people are out on ride-on lawn mowers in the dark around that part of the country.

Locals have suggested he was half-cut! 8)
