All prices include fare increase
€550 Albreen mirror meter from mechanic 24 supply & fit
€550 microtax 06 from mechanic 24 supply & fit
Waiting to hear back from a few other suppliers.. I’ll report back me findings
-
Your current Hale MCT 05 or 05+ will work up till 31st Dec 2024 or 31st Dec 2025.
BUT if'n you were to buy a new meter after the fare increase on 1st December 2024 then it would be rich fer an installer to charge you the €150 fer the now current meter program ?? As all your buying after Dec 1st is the meter with the current program ??
If'n you have your reseal date fer Dec that can easily be rescheduled up to 2 or 3 days before the appointment free of charge.
-
Personally I bit the bullet today and paid €600 fer a nua Alberen + printer with the nua fare installed rather than be pricking about to save a few quid and doing more appointments. Reseal booked and paid fer on 5th Dec. All Done.
-
I haven’t gotten the update yet or parted with hard earned.
Gonna research the market before I part, I’m not gone on the mirror meters and would much prefer the dashboard meter, so that has to be cheaper.
Noel Byrne is on me telephone list next.

I was never a Fan of the mirror meter either, but after only a day it's very unexpectedly growing on me ....
Twist and Turn it any way ya want Panel, but it will be close on €700 either side after all is done + reseal.

You’re correct Ken, but like every small business minimising expenditure is paramount.
There has to be a balance between value, cost, reliability and service life.
-
I was with Paul --Digitax---600 quid all in --
Got the update 120 spuds--nice cash for 5 min --took longer to fill in form that input the code !
-
I have the mirror meter a few years now.
One advantage is that it tidies up the interior cabin and the passengers can see the fare so no surprises. I can see it too so I can double-check I've turned it on ::sleep
One disadvantage (maybe just mine) is that it's a bit bulky and you can't flip the 'real' mirror up and down if there's a car behind you blasting out their headlights. Could be disadvantage for night drivers?
-
For a Taxitronic Skyglass Mirror Meter with built in printer and dodgy note detector from Robinsons was €650 last year.

Minimising appointments is more important to me (within reason).
Again Thanks to yourself and Stephen fer pointing out the Hale microtax deficiencies, I think my installer would have inputed the nua code in to my old Hale tomorrow without telling me that it only was good to go fer another year, because like Mechanic 24 who did Stephen's they did not know themselves.

Semitrons would be new, I didn’t seek clarification from Paul, but a second hand digitax would be better than any other new meter. Only digitax that can’t take a update is the antiquated ET806 which is long dead along with my kinzle Argo soon to be joined by my microtax MCT05+
-
If going 2nd hand then defo check to see how long the current program/s will last. We both got a Kick in de Bollix when it turned out the old Hale MCT 05+ would be defunct in a years time.
I see the Hale microtax 06 on your list, if'n the MCT 05 is gone this year and the MCT 05+ is gone next year, then I wouldn't be holding out too much hope on the MCT 06 lasting too much longer.

Re microtax 06 you’d be correct, never really here of any lesser meters becoming obsolete, mattig, ata, taxitonic TX30 aqilaia metres all seem to be slogging on for years.

I'm only at this game 15 years but I never heard of any meter going obsolete before .... till my Fookin Hale microtax 05+ !!
I reckon your Sold on the €550 Semitron dashboard meter from the Skan taxi centre Panel. Best of Luck with it ::cheers

From the OP of the Hale Meters thread:
MCT-06: the automatic calendar works until end of 2045, provided firmware version G10 MEUD77 2022.09.19 is programmed. This taximeter model is still being produced for the time being.

Just got a Digitax F1 meter & printer fitted, mirror meters never did it for me so I shelled out another oner for a F1, needless to say I’m fucking delighted with me new meter.
Completely going again the topic of this thread, including meted update, supplying and fitting €650.

You ended up paying €50 more than me, and worked the last 2 months on the old tariff ??
As in working Chrimbo/NYE + The 'Golden Eight' at €1.71 per km instead of the now legal €2.20 per km with a starting rate of the old €4.80 instead of the new €5.40 ??

Re hours; I’m RC level the last few years
Re price; yes, but I’d rather spend €100 on something I want instead of something I’m being forced to buy.
Exec sum, taximen / taxidrivers!

I'm not a great fan of the mirror meter I bought but part of my thinking is that there's not a whole lot of visible room on dashboards in modern cars with their big screens and what not so the mirror is probably more versatile going forward. I could operate the Hale with no need to look at the buttons which certainly isn't the case with the mirror one and it's position naturally takes your eyes off the road so I have to get into the habit of getting it running with all the extras before moving... not ideal by any means.
-
I've a Aquila T2 its 19 years old, anyone know when the calendar in those expire.

Nice. Good quality meter, well installed. The mirror one I got is cheap shit by comparison and being cable tied to the mirror is aptly mickey mouse looking.

€650 for a dash-mounted meter? There must be big windows in the installers.

Coulda spent €550 on a mirror Albreeen meter, but personal choice always wins. Regardless of the size of yer man fuinneog.

What came out to make room fer the nua meter ?
-

I got used to my mirror meter surprisingly quickly which was very unexpected from me as a major 'Non-Change' type of person.
My only regret being putting the printer on the dash rather than in the glove box as almost no pax want printed receipts any more, even fer street CC work.
-
It's better on the dash, Ken. I have mine in the small drivers side glove box into which it just about fits - it is referred to as "drivers side glovebox" in the manual but unless the driver has tiny extremities it's never going to work as a glove box. Anyway, I digress... the problem with it resting on it's side (when the glove box is closed) is that the roll rolls out of the roller with the cover open. Hence you need to leave a receipt on the printer and stick a business card on top of said receipt to keep the roll in place if you're inclined to open the cover when the printer's not in use. I think I'll reinstall my switch!
-

South Dublin Autos / PSV.IE wanted €550 for a Hale Microtax 6 dashboard meter and that was with trade in and without a printer... and that expires in 2045... No use to a youngfella like Panel!
-
Oh... and without the card holding the roll in place and the cover open the cover will partially close i.e. instead of the printer saying "No Paper" it'll try to print without actually printing, Ken. The print head goes through the motions but the paper doesn't feed so it just soils the roll with a black line. That couldn't be good for the printer, particularly bearing in mind the fact that it's the cheapest piece of shit on the market.
