I got a FN cab as a customer today and the Technology fee has been increased to €1.50 without any warning.

Flag on the street, save oneself €4.50 per journey at least, spread the word to all yer passengers for the future. "Do you know that it's nearly a fiver to use the app rather than stopping a cab in the street" ?
-
It was a bit sneaky of the nua FN CEO Danny O Gorman to sneak that one in under the radar just before Chrimbo.
-
It's gonna be some whooping Taxi price fer a fare over all weekends between Midnight and 4am if booked through FN using the Priority option.
€5.40 starting rate, €3 Booking fee/PUC, €3.50 Technology Priority fee, 3 extra passengers €3, is €14.90 before the cab even moves and then it's €2.20 per KM.
Dick Turpin at least wore a mask !!

Youse night time drivers...fleecing the poor public...day time drivers keeping it real!! lol

" nearly a tenner before I put me seat belt on Joe I mean it's ridiculous Joe "

You meter drivers fleecing the poor public. ;)
-
A 40 quid job and the tech/bribe fee was €2.40 for no discernible reason.
-
So they made their own rise up
On top of ours

... and it's the day/evening drivers that will suffer. Clients don't pay any attention to fare cards or such like, they just assume a taxi costs what they last paid regardless of the time of day/night they traveled.

We are travelling around with illegal fares cards now. Sheesh!
And unsealed meters.
-
I can't be arsed looking up the legislation, but are you legal to drive if your meter seal appointment isn't till 27th January?
-
As long as you have an appointment they'll leave you alone.

If you're worried about it, I think you can get earlier appointments/cancellations if you phone in plus you could probably check the website in a few weeks after it's calmed down a bit. I'm the end of Jan as well and I'm happy content to wait.

As long as you have an appointment your fine.

Strictly speaking, we're breaking the law, there's no gray area (get an appointment) in their message. But Irish rules for an Irish situation...

I don't see any mention of the word Taxi in the Metrology Act ??

Try sPSV?
Are you suggesting that "the Director may, by an authorisation in writing, dispense with the observance of that requirement" send out ~20,000 special dispensation letters to taxi drivers? My postman's just gone and I've no letter.

Rest assured, none of the 25 compliance Officers will be working tonight.

That's something that always puzzled me about the inspectors. As long as numbers have been thrown around, it's always been an uneven number of inspectors like 9 or 25. But they work in pairs afaik so why isn't there 24 or 26 of them? Does one of them sit in the office like on a subs bench in case someone in the field breaks a shoelace and has to go home? Does he play 'Mammy' in the office canteen so there's a hot meal for them when they return from crime-fighting on the mean streets of Ireland?

Ther shud be no multinationals operating in the irish taxi industry. We are scrutinised
down to having a pen and paper or we fail the licence examination...our meters are examined and passed
Yet foreign apps can operate and introduce unfair work distribution, priority systems , Favouritism, hotel bribes, surge pricing , charge above the metered fare , charge extortionate " technology fees " with total impunity ... a national scandal where once again the citizens and workers are left to the mercy and exploitation of big foreign money ... what will this new government do about it ? Sweet fuck all . Why ? Because they are paid off by foreign money to influence their decisions...
In the real world that is called corruption.

Not exactly a director but i guess an anonymous staff member of the NTA will have to suffice. I wonder how many taxi drivers didn't work the past 12 days because they didn't have a letter from the director?

In circumstances where a verification was not carried out on or before the 1st December 2024, the
taxi may not be operated unless formal evidence of a verification appointment can be provided on
the spot by the driver to An Garda Síochána, Legal Metrology Inspectors or NTA Compliance
Officers.

I had a street fare on Sunday night from Cork city center out to Blackrock with 2 lads.
The fare was €11.20 + €1 = €12.20, which I asked fer.
Yer-man-o says; "What, 12.20 !",
I replied; "Yes, is that OK ?",
He sez; "FFS, it cost us €21 to get in to town earlier @ 5pm, ... and that was on the Day rate !".
I explained to him that the Day rate on Sunday's was the same as the Night rate and the PUC and the Technology fee and Extra passenger charges. He was thankful to me fer the explanation but still a tad Miffed at paying almost a Tenner more to get in to town as opposed to going home.
