On here! FFS, the only way to get most of us outta the bed is to put work in it! But I guess there might be a few immigrants looking in who need to cover their rent/mortgage or whatever. Sure, didn't I write it off against tax? I owe nothing on the battery purchase and spend €486 monthly for my car.

I couldn't contemplate arriving at the final operating date of the Prius and finding that the EV grant is no longer available and the only option is to rent. No thanks.
Tell me - as an all-seeing oracle- what would you have done?
FTR, I'm happy with my purchase and the decisions I've made.
An average of €20 per working day for a new car that isn't poisoning the planet.
Your kids will thank me and the sacrifices I've made on their behalf. 8)

I've never been faced with a repair bill of that magnitude but I'd suggest that scrapping the Prius when the battery packed in would have made more sense. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance might be more appropriate to what you practice rather than your subsequent pontificating about planning to fail.

I can afford to take the hit. The battery started acting up 14 months before that. I got a good run out of the Prius, and when I replaced the battery, I paid back the outlay within two months.
Then I sourced MFI for the car.
Using a British army adage is a bit naff when advising a cabbie on what to do about his next car.
I can't work out if you're attacking me or my decision to buy a new car. Either way, I did what I did and got good advice from all the EV drivers here.

I'm not advising or "attacking' anyone, merely commenting on your criticism of others.
Sure you told us you couldn't get a loan from the Credit Union - which was all their fault not yours IIRC...and then you come back to pontificate when, after chucking a few grand away on keeping scrap on the road, you finally found someone to loan you a few notes.

Given your own experience with the CU and your obvious failure to prepare it's a bit rich taking the piss out of men who may be forced out of business because they're too old, ill, stubborn or whatever to get loans they've never needed before.

You mention they were forced out of the business. Hordes of new drivers are entering the taxi market from foreign climes. Almost all these drivers are new renters.
No one is "forced out of the business".
I don't pontificate, being an atheist. You seem to want to champion a cause no one cares about.
Writing long-winded missals to war-weary civil servants who swat them away with aplomb seems to tickle you.

You should have made your argument when the EV grant was first introduced. Trying to reverse a green policy will fall on deaf ears.
The Indian lad I spoke to yesterday was willing to jump into the market via the WAV route, alas it was oversubscribed within ten minutes of its launch.
His Mrs.is a staff nurse in Beaumont, so - like you and I - he has a laying hen.

I have no objection to EV grants - in fact I may well want one in due course - or green policies and I have no intention of purporting for or advising anyone. In fact, I'll make that perfectly clear in paragraph one, I'm merely expressing my own opinion as a driver who got no age extension on foot of the two years I lost to COVID '19 anall.
The opportunity to make my case only arose in my mind on foot of the Programme for Government advocating potential age extensions for cars first registered in 2015.... presumably on foot of effective lobbying on the part of a person or persons excluded from your definition of "everyone".
From being a begging letter away from bankruptcy to talking for everyone, the mind boggles!
