My Dad got a full licence on account of having held three or more provisional licences and not crashing into anyone.

Thanks, Uncle Sylvester!!

Think an aunt of mine got hers in the '70's despite never driving a car then or now!

And another relative can drive but is scared of tests.  She used to just cancel the test the week before and move onto her next provisional.  She was on her 13th or 14th provisional before they closed the loophole!

I Got my first Provisional when i was 18 .Got my second when I was 34 .Needed it to do the test .The Law said .You must be entitled to hold a licence Not that you must hold a licence .The reason being if you forgot or there was a delay by the State in Issuing you a replacement licence your original licence woulkd still be Valid but out of Date not rendered invalid by not being renewed .I think the law now is it becomes invalid if you do not renew it within 3 years and it is an offence to hold an out of date licence .£3 for the Provisional no Theory  Test .No photo on the licence Grey cover for Provisional Red cover for full licence .My Father had A,B,C D and more ,only ever drove a dumper on site before he jumped into a car .

The motorbike test was the weirdest one ever....unless he could be in every place he asked me to drive to...I should have informed the priest that a miracle had taken place!!

I had C1 and C1E until 2001 when I woulda needed a medical to renew them. I've never driven a class C1 vehicle in my life. IIRC you just had to tick the boxes on the form when you passed your category B test. I have BE too, that's a separate test these days.
