A great May bank holiday weekend down here, everything going great and everybody enjoying the sunshine.
I had a very enjoyable IBT job from Roy on the Sat and spent most of Sunday ferrying my son plus his mates up and down to the Kinsale 7's Rugby bash.
Then this horrendous dark cloud loomed upon us folk of Cork.
A 'Lamb' as FDS would have rightly called her, only 13 years old snatched from us.

We lost a traffic Garda to a motorcyclist in Fingal... RIP.
-
Was it a narrow road that he couldn't get out of the way, what the hell happened there.
-
i'm surmising he was speed gunning cars on the side of the dual carriage way and gunned a motorbike bombing it towards him. he stepped out in to the road flagging him down to ticket him and got hit.
-
No chance I'd be standing out to block any vehicle, nevermind a bike.Even at low speeds it would lead to seroius injury.Very sad stuff but likely avoidable. Most of the traffic corps lads are bikers themselves.
I've seen cops standing out in the middle of the road to stop vehicles but they don't know what the mindset of the driver is.Very risky stuff. If someone has a ban or no insurance they're not stopping for a yellow jacket.
-
It's not a particularly narrow road but the traffic Gardai often position themselves where they can't be seen until it's too late.
We really should have cameras mounted on every lamppost at this stage rather than risking life and limb. Also, given that motorcycles account for a wholly disproportionately high rate of road deaths they should be banned from public roads save for properly planned and marshalled races. There's plenty of safer electric bicycle options on the market these days which should be sufficient for daily driving.

i got speed gunned on that stretch a few years ago at night.
the garda car was on the left in the dark and all i saw was a small white light bobbing around in front of me before it was a guard walking in to the middle if the road with a flashlight. not enough time to fully process and react to what i was seeing. i slow down but over shot him and hadta pull in and reverse back to him. i got gunned another time at the end of oscar traynor/coolock lane. the guard was standing in the middle of the road in the darkness. rediculously dangerous in hindsight.

If the biker was speeding he might have panicked and lost control. Then it was a flying missile and very bad luck.
RIP
(the biker is in serious condition in hospital as well)

He was knocked down and killed instantly when he tried to flag down a high-powered Yamaha 1000 motorcycle.
The motorbike travelled over three hundred metres* after the fatal collision, across the median divide to the other side of the road before coming to a stop at a bus stop.
GardaĆ said it is extremely fortunate it hit no other motorist or pedestrian.
The motorcyclist remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital.
* For reference, O'Connell St (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Connell_Street) is 600 metres long.
