I've always given the legal printed receipts, but Alan likes to keep his handwriting skills up to date:
J2510
T29910.
He dropped Mrs. Bullet home from the back of Heuston.

Maybe his printer was out of action... I don't have any manual backup receipts myself anymore but I have been asked by clients for hand written receipts once or twice with the explanation that they don't want the gratuity to be obvious because their employer doesn't reimburse for spending on gratuities.

No printer/no work, simples.

Failure to print and offer a taximeter receipt in the prescribed form to a passenger upon completion of a journey in a taxi. €100
Failure to comply with the requirements in relation to the fitting and operation of a taximeter. €150

I've used less than 2 till rolls since printers were brought in (2002?). Had a switch on the printer attached to the Hale meter and now have an hotel key card deployed to keep the till roll door open on the printer attached to the mickey mouse mirror meter so it just says no paper and doesn't bother it's arse trying to print.... but I will print a receipt if asked for one, obviously.
