Rider app is in the Google Play store now.
Can the rider order a woman of the female variety?
-
it's an asian led thing.
they're callin it jap a taxi i believe.
-
Who runs it?

Bunch of hippies :P --> https://aitra.ie/tap-a-taxi/
Tap a Taxi isn’t just another ride-hailing app - it’s a movement built by drivers, for drivers, with passengers at its heart. As a co-operative, Tap a Taxi puts ownership back where it belongs: in the hands of the drivers who power the service every day. That means fairer fares, transparent pricing and decisions made locally, not by distant shareholders.

DL' d it yestetday on one phone, tried to today on another phone and seems to be gone from PS.

Possibly an alpha version that wasn't intended for release. It's a nice app, plain and simple but there's no facility to add a card and they're penny pinching on use of the Places API with no predictions until you type 5 or 6 letters. It's a shame they went to Estonia for it, it's no more than a couple of weeks work for a competent coder. I hope they don't penny pinch with the driver app. Free Now is the one they want to copy (all code/APIs are open source so, bar logos and such like, there's nothing in it that's not free for anyone to use) assuming it's going to be based on Google APIs. Bolt is the penny pinching version built on the Maps APIs rather than the Navigation API.
-
I done a rare evening shift up above in Dublin yesterday and got into a couple of conversations with clients about apps, neither instigated by me - one street hailer and one via a popular commercial rideshare platform. Both suggested they would support an Irish firm taking on the multinationals and both agreed that there's potentially a lot to be gained for a co-op doing the media rounds on slow news days to push the concept of taking on the mean and nasty multinationals in pursuit of a platform that is fair for all, drivers and riders. I know it's in our nature as Irishmen to maintain a conciliatory tone in small talk but it's nice to hear such sentiment regardless.
-
Passengers likely don't care who owns the app as long as it's reliable.Drivers will be a lot more cautious about where they align with as previous apps that got success gave it away by scoring some own goals in the form of gamification with medals and stickers and priority systems.
Anything to do with Unions or the Kesh will be shot down by the drivers who don't work the Kesh.Maybe they'll have to get some work first and the city drivers will join afterwards.
-
Getting as far as they have off the back of a couple of town halls is very impressive, IMO. As a rider I generally go for whichever app offers the lowest fare and the highest wage for the driver. Given that Hola never has any cars free that's generally Uber or Bolt. I guess most riders wouldn't know or care what the driver gets paid and, TBH, when I'm abroad I wouldn't know that or care so it just comes down to the lowest fare assuming no huge deviation in response times.
I don't know how unique I might be in not really caring about the quality of service once I get from A to B but if I do have a pet hate in that regard it would be the rideshare platforms sending a clapped out converted commercial vehicle when I don't need or request wheelchair accessibility or enhanced luggage space... although I wouldn't go to the extent of cancelling and ordering another car... but maybe that's an angle the co-op could look at i.e. adding a facility to request a saloon car specifically?
-
Giving customers choice always ends up in irritating and or alienating one group of drivers.
That's the sort of thing you do one you get drivers depending on the app.I think some customers probably choose the EV option as there are no EV WATs worth talking about.
Recently I've opted out of EV work on Uber as it's no longer first choice on the passenger app and I have a feeling it's offering me less regular work so the Uber app can have EV availability. As they don't pay any extra I'm not really bothered covering them.
-
I get that alright and, at the end of the day, the clapped out converted commercial vehicles are (rightly or wrongly) licensed to carry fares that would get a better quality of service from a vehicle manufactured to M1 passenger vehicle standards.
Anywaysanall, I should clarify the above by making it clear that Tap a Taxi will be my first (and hopefully only) port of call in Ireland when it's launched regardless of fare/driver wages... and I do think there are a lot of riders like me who will want to support the concept of a co-op... and I don't think that'll be restricted to those of us who do a bit ourselves. We're a nation of left wing socialists at heart!
-
All live as of today. Those who haven't yet got on board, please do so, this has a real chance of sending one or two apps back to Trump's Lala land.

Always find it interesting. Connolly, Mickey D, Red Robbo, Mc Aleese (altered her perspective on gender issues) but never a left wing government. Are we like the Skibbereen Eagle, "just keeping an eye on things"?

We're a nation of moaners as well as left-wingers. You have to make decisions in government so easier to sit outside the tent having a good moan! It's also probably why we elect socialists to the Presidency and chancers to the Dail :P

Heard the ad on the wireless this afternoon, sounds great.
Also had another look at the rider app, Places predictions start after typing 3 letters which is much better than Hola which starts after 5 letters - no use if you're going to Rush or Lusk. Uber, Free Now and Bolt all give predictions from the first letter you type. Also noticed another "bug" with Hola's implementation of the places API i.e they've restricted it to the Free State by only including the "IE" country code in their requests. For some reason Google only includes the occupied counties in it's "UK" definition despite the .ie internet domain being available to organizations North and South. Anywaysanall that oversight makes Hola pretty useless in border counties but, then, there's probably no Injuns working dem parts.
I did notice that it's possible to order a Tap a Taxi without specifying a destination which I don't think is great for drivers. I get that it probably saves a few cent a year in Places API consumption but all the commercial apps have trained riders to specify their desto, to me undoing that is a backward step.

Deleted an reinstalled now that it's back in the toy shop just to make sure I'm not using an alpha/beta version. The fares are on the low side. With no desto it says from €5.40 and ~€5.00 to the station (both rate 2). Meter to the station is c.€9 for one passenger including PUC. Is Tap no PUC?

Drivers may charge the legal fare chart , 1009 shareholders so far. 183 jobs yesterday and pax app released at 10 am yesterday.

Best of Luck with it Jack .Gorman said years ago a driver needed 17 fares a day to cover costs and bring home average industrial wage .A good start .
-
Looking good. I don't know what the thinking behind unrealistically low fare estimates is... surely that's going to piss off riders. Even an Uber to the Station with 2pax and 30% discount is c.€7.70 on rate 1 so estimating €5.00 on rate 2 is way off the mark.... teething problems, one hopes.
-
BTW, I ordered one myself by mistake when I was playing with it up above in Dublin before it was officially released. I think (although I was in a public house) I just pressed the button assuming it wouldn't work as I hadn't specified a destination and I cancelled straight away - selecting the just experimenting with the app (or similar) reason from the options presented - but they reduced my rider rating to 4.90... is there any way of getting my 0.10 back if I promise never to do it again?
-

Did they charge a cancellation Fee?
-
No. There's no facility to add a card so I'm guessing charging cancellation fees would be too cumbersome to administer. I cancelled within 3 seconds anyway, I don't think any of the commercial platforms would charge a fee in that case.
-
I guess the penalty for cancelling is the reduction to your rider rating making drivers less likely to pick you up in future... Leave the cancelling scum to the multinationals who can afford cancellation fees?

Yeah, think that`s sorted . Our rabbit techs got around to it when they got extra carrots.

Strangely enough you're rating starts out at 4.90 on both driver and passenger app, doesn't look like you were effected by the mishap.

4.9 is ok in the driver app, that's my driver rating on Uber. Handy to know that's the default for riders, otherwise I don't think I'd accept a job from a rider with such a low rating, most Uber riders seem to be well over 4.9.
Still showing "from 5.40" in my rider app with no desto, BhT... but now "~7.00" to the station on rate 2. At least they're working on it anyway... riders won't take kindly to being taken for a ride! When they've that done tell them to add a card payment facility and make riders specify their destinations!

Did my first TaT job last night €18.50, no commission, no base fee.........yet. Customer was a committed user due to a friend being a taxi driver who explained the background. I suspect that word of mouth promotion, explaining the concept, coupled with reliable service, is the best way to promote the app. Expensive advertising will help, but may not affect those already satisfied with the alternatives, may only attract those who have had a bad experience, or who want to have all available options when cabs are scarce. Hope springs eternal, spread the gospel gentlemen, even if you're not yet on board.

It's what I expected, and I have hope, and patience, and if it fails I have lost a lot more, on the turn of a card. It's the least I could do to support the doers rather than the talkers.

Nice one, BS... first of many...
-
Did yeh get the score...?? ::fuck
-
Rider app looking better now... With no desto fare is correctly shown as From 7.40 EUR and a run to the station is showing as ~9.00 EUR (rate 1). Excellent!
-
Is your first job on a new app like your first job in a new car i.e. FOC for luck?

Sure did.

Well done. I'll sign up after the holidays.

Reading all the driver chats, and comments every day, huge positivity out there. This has a real chance, well done to all the voluntary managemnt group.

So I heard the radio adverts and it sounds good.
Being optimistic what happens to any profits that the coop generates? How do these things work.Does the weekly fee reduce if it gets big enough to cover the wages?

heard the ad on the radio. fuckin dirt.
generic taxi company ad. two yokes singin the name of the app.
not happy at all with this freenow crowd at the minute. hungry cunts.
-
The ad has the same sound as the 8202020 jingle that everyone remembers a few years ago.Catchy but annoying enough for people to remember it.Hope they make it as it's a competitive world out there.
Seen another app on a roofie called Joemaxi the other day. That must be the fourth new app I've seen in the last couple of months.By Christmas we will all have an app..

Had another look at the rider app with a view to ordering a car in the early hours of this morning. Unfortunately for me (but good for co-op members, I guess) there were no cars available. However, I noticed it's no longer possible to order a car without giving a desto - at least not easily - which is a good thing but the fares still seem to be fluctuating a lot. I was quoted ~7.00 EUR for a local on rate 2... which isn't possible at full metered rates so still a bit of work needed on that and still no frictionless card payment facility.
-
Jaysus, RC, calm down! It's a driver's co-op they're running, not a business :P
-
And a very good job they're doing of it. They are competing with commercial platforms though so ought to strive to be at least as good as their competitors. To be fair they've made giant strides to date, far beyond anything I might have thought possible but there's always room for improvement / crossing the eyes and dotting the teas.

Does it use the iCabbi platform, because it has to be the worst App for taxis that I've ever used.
-
No. It's an Estonian app, I think.

Aah, like BOLT then?
I wonder if a scrote does a runner from a cash app job and gets caught, could he argue that he thought the word BOLT was an instruction? 8)

No. It's an Estonian app, I think.
Is the tap a taxi app Estonian rat ?
-
I think so. The validation SMS comes from an Estonian number. IIRC, they said they sourced it abroad at the meeting I attended but they didn't say where or I wasn't listening when they did.
-
The way they display currency i.e. x.xx EUR rather than €x.xx is consistent with Estonian formatting or any of a number of other (Eastern) European countries.
-
Does Joe Fluffy own it?
-
So does this app take the fare from the passengers account or do you take cash or card payment?
-
So does this app take the fare from the passengers account or do you take cash or card payment?
No in app payments as yet,but plans in train, I believe. All drivers, as you know, are obliged to have a c card facility, and many, like mise have the Revolut app.
-
I think it's 300 once off buy in and 130 pm and it's normal payment with the taxi ,cash or card. It seems reasonable enough, better than company fees or free now and Uber style fees.
-
Is there any work

So Big Dommo has Sharon Begley over for Dinner and she has 16 double vodkas and wants a taxi home from the flats to her gaff .Big Dommo being a Gent says let me get a taxi for you and there is no way for him to pay the fare on his booking even though being a gent he wants to pay sharons fare ..Now If I am a Corporate Client who wants to set up an account for my Staff and the fare to be deducted from my business account I cannot do that ?
I wonder are they actually licenced by the Central Bank to hold Personal Financial details or act as an Intermeditary .?
-
Could he not just pay the driver on pickup?
-
Could he not just pay the driver on pickup?
Fixed Fares they dont do them ?
Security obligations if you handle card data
If your app touches card numbers at all, you must implement things like:
Encryption in transit (HTTPS, TLS)
Encryption at rest (if storing PAN)
Strict access controls (need-to-know only)
Logging & monitoring access
Secure development practices
Regular security testing
These come from the 12 PCI DSS requirements
-
GDPR (Irish / EU law)
If you store card data, it is also personal data, so:
Under GDPR, you must:
Have a lawful basis for processing
Minimise data (only store what’s necessary)
Protect it with appropriate security
Report breaches
⚠️ A breach could lead to fines up to €20 million or 4% of turnover
-
Practical reality (what most apps do)
Because of the complexity and risk:
-
They mightn't do fixed fares but they provide an estimate and the driver will know what he wants for the job.
There's loads of card payment processing firms that take care of all the GDPR and security stuff for you. Before Sumup came along I used Stripe which is an excellent cost effective solution with out of the box APIs for Android, IOS, www, etc...
-
Is there any work
Yes.
But what are you expecting?
Statistics are not going to be broadcast here on a public forum
It's trying to take market share from billionaire USA corporate apps who are 10+ years established, and who have already wiped out most traditional taxi firms.
It will require a significant element of committment to the project, and to go a little beyond where one might go normally.
It will take time to establish a balance between, supply and demand, and distance required to travel to cover the jobs.
When the above is established hopefully it will result in client loyalty
The current impressive membership is presumeably divided between an average of 3 working shifts per day.
The share purchase price is a steal, to have a serious go at the established apps, and has attracted a significant number of drivers.
My biggest worry would be 1200 drivers, each with an opinion, but everyone has a vote at an AGM.
With the corporate apps their vote is imposed upon us, and this is the only alternative to fight back.
Are ya in, or wha?
-
Ok sounds good
A fighting chance
-
Excellent progress to date. A good start is half the work.

Robbie you are looking at this ALL WRONG .Big Dommo and Billy the Bastard and The One We dont mention went to the IDA for a Grant .They took an existing product a Whore .Sent her to a Plastic Surgeon got a pair of Tits built on to her back .Their Business Proposal was the one Whore could now increase business activity by 100% operating both sides and the Anal would cost 5% more to off set the cost of surgery .A brilliant piece of Economic increase utalising existing resources to drive Profitability .Great Idea on Paper but nobody wanted it .
Thats the Difficulty with Business you need to identify your market .With a taxi app it is Passengers .They want door to door transport .Nowthey have than Street Hail or App hail or dial up hail .So this new app is not offering them anything they do not already have .So what is its selling Point ?
This is successfully being sold by its developers to its market Taxi DRIVERS .that is not the same as taxi CUSTOMERS .I have already told you for this to be a Stand alone App the sums are 17 jobs per driver per shift .17x1250=that is 21.250 jobs per day or 148.750 per week or 7 million 735 thousand per year .Those are the figures for a fleet of1250 Drivers Nationally .Does that seem realistic ?
The answer is No it cannot compete with others offering bonus payments to drivers and discounts to passengers because there is no stand alone taxi App .UBER is not a Taxi app it is a Data harvesting app .Taxi services was a decoy to put tracking devices in customer phones access their data so they can sell on that data for profit to advertisers .Google Maps do the same its live on your taxi app in your pocket tracking you .Spotify does the same .This App cannot and willl not work because it is selling a service already saturated and has no alternative revenue stream as they do not own the App or store the Data themselves .
You are buying a share in delusion like the fella buying a share in a Piedball gelded pony you wont win the race and you have no Stallion Possibilities .If you are going to invest in business at least understand Business .
I was surprised at the Clontarf Cavalier who understands Crypto Currencies and Crypto wallets getting involved .All the real Taxi Apps are Data harvesters nothing to do with taxi hailing .They could give the service away for nothing .This New Venture has no Cost variables to work with no other stream of income .Uber built out their own Dynamic Mapping and Pricing based on tracking you showing them the routes .By offering fixed fares they accustom the users of their Driverless Product to how their cost structure will operate when you hail a driverless vehicle .
I knew an old Millionaire you would not think this lad could afford to eat .He built the little housing Estate on Bluebell Avenue and Bought the old cottage where the new housing estate is across from the Circle K on the Canal Bridge in Clondalkin .I remember sitting in his kitchen and he gave me advice I chose to ignore .He said " John you are a very clever man but an idiot ,you spend all your time fighting and winning some battles but you never focus on the War " So think about that .What do drivers want ? They want to be paid for all the Work they do and paid the right price as in the Metered fare .So to do that they should be looking at removing the Apps not adding to them .Keep your eye on the Target not the days battle .

So does this app take the fare from the passengers account or do you take cash or card payment?
No in app payments as yet,but plans in train, I believe. All drivers, as you know, are obliged to have a c card facility, and many, like mise have the Revolut app.
I wouldn't be taking her unaccompanied, after she's had 16 double vodkas.

If I get 13 jobs per week from it, it is as profitable as the 10% Bolt are charging me. If I get to 62 jobs per week/14-15 jobs per day from it, I can dispense with all other apps, and the commission would be down to 2%.

Have they done any marketing and advertising yet?

Yes, a couple of radio stations, and ads on rear of buses.

I've seen the logo on a few taxis. Looks smart, esp on clean vehicles ::clap Defo doesn't look like a start-up anyways. Looks better than Freenow powered by Lyft or whatever it is...
