Put them away for the Grankids .They will be valuable in years to come .How much can you get for the old Brass Badges ?

I might use them some time... A bloke at the charging depot was telling me I should get a smaller roof sign with no gap between the roof and the sign to save electricity. Not sure what, if any, difference that might make but his sign was smaller than mine and did sit tight to the roof. If I do that anytime in the future I guess I'll need the area stickers for it.

Hold on to them, the area stickers on your nua joe are already starting to look dodgy, and the NTA issued area stickers usually don't last too long.

Below is a photo of my old rear area roofie sticker which is mostly permanent black marker on the C.

The front area roofie sticker I replaced years ago as it was in really bad condition, but it was the devils own job getting the old tamper proof area sticker off the roofie sleeve, it took over half an hour using white spirit and WD40.

That would be just like painting over rust !!

On my new sleeves a colleague gifted me two C area stickers which I had laminated and fixed to the sleeves professionally with double sided tape by my sign maker friend.

Big difference from the old above photo.

As most likely this will be my last car I didn't scrimp much on anything to customise it in to a proper taxi, leatherette seat covers last weekend were €595 (which included the drivers seat being in fabric) + a Score fer new magnetic vent phone holder and the seat cover guy threw in Free side window wind deflectors + heavy duty rubber mats. I only used the front wind deflectors and gave him back the rubber mats as they are too much trouble to clean/wash.

Naw, there's not, just back from a 5 hour round trip to watch me small fella's FAI Junior cup match against Banteer in the howling wind and not feeling the better fer the experience. Next match is Fookin AWAY to some shower from Fookin Limerick in a fortnight !

No Thanks but Thanks fer the offer, as Luck would have it the colleague of mine who gifted me my two C area stickers lost his roofie in the wind yesterday and had to replace his nua roofie with his old one, thankfully he hasn't asked fer the C area stickers back yet !

That's not good. I only once experienced a roof sign being blown off the car. That was in my first couple of months as a taximan and it was a fleet rental black cab. The fleet manager had replaced a bulb in it that morning and discarded a rubber seal that was left over. A truck driver got my attention on Naas Rd to inform me that my roof sign detached itself some 3 miles back and that was before we had magnetic signs!

i have the dad's roof sign in the shed. it was attached to the roof with screw clamps from the side. sat high on the roof. it has the word shamrock with a little picture of a shamrock on the opposite side of the roof number. it appeared i remember when he had a cosy for a while. was shamrock a radio company.

Yeah... Owned by ITDF, headquarters above the Fed office in Summerhill up above in Dublin. I think it evolved or was subsumed into The Link which was a rival to Radio Link... both low freight without much (corporate) work.

Museum piece now, I guess... Panel might buy it off you!

Remember you couldn't get insurance without being a member of the union @100 quid ---
When the fleet was expanded by 100 plates --the union members were very lucky in the lotto !
Dial a Crash was one of the "lucky ones "

An old drinking acquaintance of mine was the first man that I know of who refused to join a union. Axa gave him a quote which was about IR£30 more than if he was a paid up member of the Fed.. probably him that opened the floodgates. I was one of the first drivers to get a DAA permit without union membership... on the fleet rental black cab that I started out with. After that I worked for Blue Cabs so Fed membership was included in freight... and I joined NTDU when I needed a letter for my first mortgage, the Fed were tied to a sub-prime broker back then (before sub-prime was even a thing!) but EBS were happy enough with Tommy Gorman's endorsement.

There was a tie up NTDU and Allianz similar to Fed and PMPA no quote unless you're a member---some scandal of sorts and they disappeared from Bridgewater Ct--the old Booth Pool site !

I got my first insurance on my own taxi from a broker in Drogheda having been on a fleet policy that was arranged through them. No union membership required then c.1996... IIRC the insurance firm name shown on the cert wasn't a firm as such just a syndicate at LLoyds of London

NTDU were essentially a tied broker for Allianz. They never offered alternatives. There's the rub!
I'm sure the reps made a pretty penny out of the association.

Also, there was allegedly a harassment case brought against a rep IIRC. The ladies name was King AFAIK.
It was apparently settled in the lobby of the courts.
