15% increase in adult fares for public transport from January (https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2026/0903/1590193-transport-fares/)
"While adult fares will increase by an average of 15%, this remains below cumulative inflation, which has increased by 20.8% since 2022," the NTA said.
Can't wait to see the next taxi fare review... I'd settle for a 12% increase in fares :P

I'd simplify the fare structure by increasing the flag charge to 6.00 (R1) / 8.00 (R2) and 12.00 (R1) / 16.00 (R2) from Airport ranks and eliminating the extra passenger charge and replacing the incremental time/distance rates with single universal rates.... and increase the soiling charge from "up to €140" to €320.

Nah, I'll take the >10% increase. It'll annoy more people >:D

The simplified fare structure suggested would have to equate to a 10+% increase, I guess... 15% for buses, why shouldn't we get that too?
I do find a lot of Dublin fares are far too low under the current fare structure. Sometimes it can take the guts of half an hour to earn €25 on the meter in city traffic. Bring the short city jobs up and cut the longer ones a bit should be the aim IMO... but with the aggregate equating to a 10+% increase.

For example Balbriggan to DAP meters €45 for 20-22 mins depending on traffic... City to DAP is closer to half that for the same time ifn you're lucky... One size doesn't fit all but the chances of them reverting to local authority metered areas is probably nil... they just say the meter is the maximum so rural firms/drivers are free to set their own rates within those parameters as they always have done, I guess. I think the main problem with the national rate is more evident in towns like Drogheda with the Dublin scum stealing all the more lucrative full meter fares of a Friday and Saturday evening... of course, they just have to say they're waiting for an Uber (or other base) call if challenged and it's all perfectly legal... almost! Although, I guess you could argue that works both ways... the Drawda men probably blow free up above in Dublin on Uber or whatever and grab a few notes on their way back too.
-
...and when (not IF) Uber fucks up the fares all over the country every unemployable rural waster with a "national" plate will descend upon Dublin chasing the big money!

March planned on government buildings
Way to go

That'll knock another few millons off the WA subsidies.
