Same group as organized last week's protest outside NTAs headquarters up above in Dublin.
They've stated their objectives to be:
To protect Ireland's regulated taxi system
To ensure fair rules for all dispatch operators (including app-based services)
To protect driver earnings and a level playing field
To ensure transparency and fairness for passengers
To ask the NTA to listen to the voice of taxi drivers
-
They won't listen the nta
Competition is good they say
Public hate us
And we are very divided
-
Their issue is simple .They were encouraged to come here given Return to work enterprise allowance and grants to buy WATs .Now that gravy train has dried up .They need to replace their expensive WATs cannot afford to drop the apps as most of them couldnt find O Connell Street in Daylight .The Apps that encouraged them trained them with the answers now Fuck them and they dont like it .Now they are looking for Fairness as in they want to abandon the expensive WAT and be issued with Saloon Plates or better they want after all the advertising they are doing for their Discount Model Uber Rideshare .Thinking that Uber Rideshare would yield the same fares without the Big Overheads of Licences ,Insurance ,Expensive vehicles .
IF YOU REALLY BELIEVED IN WHAT YOU SAY ,YOU WOULD WITHDRAW YOUR SERVICE AFTER MIDNIGHT ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY .

And we are very divided
Competition is good provided it is fair competition. Uber's market manipulation is anti-competitive. In fact, Watty just started another thread that shows exactly why NTA needs to license and regulate dispatch operators in accordance with Taxi Regulation Act 2003 (as amended).

Yes exactly but unexactle also as well .. Now there is also Plan B that is to Promote Uber Discounted Fares and Attract more Passengers to the Platform in the Belief that the more Passengers the more chance they have of getting more work and maintaining their Income level ..Now ask yourself Did any other App come into existance and is Uber Half fares an attempt to crush that .Whatever happened to HOLA that dies as quickly as a Palastinian in Jerusalem .These fuckers are playing two sides against the middle but dont understand that there is no prize for the Winners .
-
Tap evolved from the last protest. Hola is doing very well in India, it's their version of Tap.
-
Will it happen?
No
They dont care
Probably not. The narrative on social media after last week's protest action was that it's just a handful of ungrateful immigrant drivers that are demanding the right to hold riders up at meterpoint. No doubt Uber are fueling that narrative to divide and conquer. We've had at least one driver on here suggest that he will cover the reduced fixed fares to force the migrant workers who are refusing them out of business, the same driver having come on here two or three Mondays in a row to complain about Uber cutting the rates they pay him up above in Dublin on a Sunday. That kinda demonstrates how easy it is to manipulate drivers... as FDS used to remind us, there's a reason we drive cabs for a living.
If you support the objectives of the crowd protesting support the protest. If you don't, don't support it and you'll have a busier than normal Wednesday afternoon on the 28th, probably.
Fair play to the men for trying.

Me Personally Fuck the Lot of ya. I own a small transport business some years ago I warned about Workcapture and what would happen .I protested manned Ranks while others drove by .I listened to lies being told ..My needs are My needs I decide what fares I will cover .I pay my own Bills ,Will never sacrifice my earnings for anybody else ever again .

Truth be told, most drivers are probably of a similar mindset. As TD42 noted we're a diverse bunch with diverse interests. Those who are fortunate enough to own their own plates and drive heavily subsidised cars, for example, have a considerable comptitive edge over those who have to pay extortionate fees to rent taxis.

Its Dereg all over again again .Some lads got grants and enterprize allowances now they complain when they cannot source the Required Vehicle they contracted to drive at the right price or are displeased with the Vehicle they rented increasing in rental .Plenty of Jobs out there paying more than minimum wage that would pay them better that cabbying .
-
Yeah, there's certainly issues with sourcing WAVs. NTA initially recommended the UK second hand market as a source of reasonably priced vehicles. That market has changed somewhat since then on account of Brexit and other regulatory changes so that obviously needs to be looked at. Maybe we don't need so many WAVs with the advances in technology brought about by rideshare platforms or maybe there's a case for increasing grant aid or directing what is already there to existing participants in the first instance. The rental market could do with a coat of looking at too, I guess. NTA has identified difficulties with attracting younger men but isn't really offering them much of a future in the trade. While they identify the rental market as an entry route they aren't offering any obvious progression. Maybe some sort of scheme allowing men who have operated within the rental market for a predetermined period apply for their own licences, perhaps limited to EVs, could be helpful in that regard.

28% of drivers drive Wheelchair accessible vehicles. 1/3 of WATs have regular customers.
80% of drivers own their own vehicles.
Uber are not the panacea for all the woes of the Irish taxi game. In America, they're not great, to put it mildly, for serving disabled customers or going into low income (i.e., black) neighbourhoods. And as mentioned above, they have the same game plan for each market they enter - ignore the rules, eliminate the competition, and then raise prices.
And we're not well-regarded among the public so any driver who steps in front of a microphone should emphasize the 'public service' bit of what we do (see Uber above) and not moan about our income. If we can get the public (and politicians) on our side, they'll use us more and our income should hopefully increase (or stay steady).
-
Yeah, it's only really the erm that's honed in on men allegedly not being able to afford replacement WAVs and there's obviously an element of justifying his own decision to support Uber and cover the reduced fixed fares up above in Dublin in the belief that in doing so he's going to force all the immigrants out of business and, perhaps, back to where they came from. The statistics aren't showing any decline in WAV numbers so the reality of that particular situation is obviously somewhat different and, of course, the men who are refusing to cover the reduced fixed fares will benefit from those drivers who are covering them being tied up on that work instead of competing for fares settled at the maximum amount permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter.
We tend not to do ourselves any favours when we get in front of cameras and microphones but, to be fair to the current crop of protesters, without their actions we would not have Tap. That in itself has made significant progress towards achieving their stated objectives. In particular Tap provides drivers with work that is always charged at the maximum rate permitted by law in accordance with the Dublin centric taximeter and it provides clients with access to taximen that will never charge them any more than said maximum fare.
It's easy for the older unwiser heads to dismiss the protests and tell the men that they won't get anywhere because we never got anywhere with our protests and if we had got anywhere they would be pissing in bottles while driving vans for Amazon or whoever and not taking the bread off our tables. However, they have justifiable grievances and deserve the opportunity to be heard. Yes, they have a mountain to climb taking on the likes of Uber with it's resources, resources it will use both for "lobbying" and market manipulation but I will reiterate... and make no apology for doing so... without these men there would be no Tap A Taxi. Give them the support they deserve!

Stage of life thing

U coming up then?
I don't think so. My days of protesting are behind me and I'd be similar to yourself as far as stage of life goes so I'd struggle to get enthused by any of it. I have the advantage of owning my own plate and driving a heavily subsidised car which coupled with Mrs. Catcher earning a decent wage and not having a particularly extravagant lifestyle means I'll be here long after the men who are forced to pay extortionate fees to rent plates and might have childer to feed and educate and mortgages to pay, ect.... have gone bankrupt. I'll happily go down with this ship!
I will, however, support the men by withdrawing my labour for at least the duration of their action.

In fairness to the NTA, they have other pressing problems to solve... Residents call for bus route on Limerick city's road with bus lane (https://www.rte.ie/news/munster/2026/1020/1596010-limerick-condell-road/)
"Residents on Limerick's Condell Road are going nowhere fast when it comes to public transport - despite a bus lane already being in place. It is one of three main routes into the city from the northside, but the only one with a bus lane and no bus service."
Couple of WATs would sort that out O:-)
-
Credit where credit is due... it is the most efficient bus lane in the Free State.

Regardless of one's opinion of the demos, the less they are supported works in the apps favour, from the apps point of view, and from the NTA's point of view. It's in everyone's long term interest to support action against the apps in whatever way one can.

Really The Balbriggan Oracle has told us the Last Protest led to the introduction of another Pay to Work App .That would mean what you say is unproven .I suggested a simple idea get a Stencil on your Bonnet with a figure with a Raised hand Hail a Taxi .And CASH or CARD door decals .A lot of people are actually unaware you can street hail or Pay cash or Card .Take Back your Work dont increase the amount of Apps .I love lads suggesting Support for this protest are the same lads covering the Work .At least Im honest I do street hails and Run UBER .Imagine being such a Fraud that you would support this action but not dump the App .Like the Fuckers organising it .

I wouldn't be encouraging anyone to pay by card. It's bad enough that we are the only tradesmen in the entire Free State who aren't entitled to legal tender without advertising the fact.
The apps have broadened our horizons and developed the private hire sector significantly by putting taxis in people's pockets. In my case I now get work outside of the areas I'm licensed to ply or stand for hire. You have suggested that you use the commercial apps yourself when you are taken away from your patch. Increasing our productivity in that way is hugely beneficial to us and the rideshare platforms are hugely convenient both for us and the riders. Riders don't have to leave their gaffs looking for us and we don't have to leave our gaffs looking for them. Obviously those benefits come at a price. With Tap that is a fair price. Don't forget you get an extra €3 on every pick up so with Tap you only need to cover 40 jobs in a month to cover the entire base fee. If you don't think that's value for money, fair enough... It's not for you... Like all the commercial apps, it's optional.
Of course, the continued expansion of the private hire sector isn't exclusive to Ireland. We're not unique in only using public hire vehicles to cover that work but we are in a pretty small minority of cities doing it that way. In simple terms, if taxis didn't or don't want the work the current temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon hackney plates would be lifted fairly lively.

Not only that, they are now in the process of building a bus shelter on that particular road, for a bus service that doesn't exist.
-
i was lookin at an old rte news snippet. they installed shelters at the college green taxi rank in the late 90s. when and why were they removed. were they gettin swung out of.
-
I don't remember that one tbh... was it on the rank in the middle of the road or over on the holding rank by the bank? The holding rank was used for the taxi share scheme where folk used to queue for hours to share a cab at a fixed price... a shelter there might have been for the rank marshals?
I think there's still shelters on Northside SC and Donaghmede SC so if they survive there I don't see why they wouldn't survive in the city. Maybe just lost as part of the redevelopment of the general area?
-
Read the demands on line for the Protest .All are about nothing the NTA has any responsibility for .They are Objecting about the apps THEY DECIDED TO USE to get jobs .All their issues are commercial and have nothing to do with the NTA .A bit like they got a Tattoo now they are complaining because she left them .Have a look at the Cars Protesting carrying Branding that they get paid to carry and they are objecting to those same Brands .

-
What do we want…………dont know
Thats the problem .What do we want .We want fixed fares done away with .OK so we are supporting Hacks and limos because they can do fares less than the Maximum metered fare .We want the Regulators to take the opportunity to say UBER APP is a BOOKING PLATFORM for Transport ,Aeroplanes ,Food Delivery can charge their customers whatever they like but taxi operators are governed by the meter .Marching on the NTA ,I wonder did they actually ask to meet somebody in authority to discuss their issues or are they really only getting Free Advertising for UBER fixed fares .Imagine Yer man on Ireland AM on the Breakfast Alan Hughes telling the Country Taxi drivers who refuse to take me and my Husband Carl from the Airport to Swords because its not far enough are now complaining that passengers can get discounted fares using UBER .OWN GOAL .
-
NTA is responsible for licensing and regulating dispatch operators as well as PSV vehicles and drivers. As far as drivers are concerned NTA sets the maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter. It also has a statutory obligation to promote competition. The regulation of licensed dispatch operators needs to be updated to prevent the sort of anti-competitive practices Uber et al are engaged in.
A rider might be able to get a cheaper taxi now but that's only because Uber is charging him less than it pays the driver, that won't last. What should be of most concern to Govt/NTA in that regard is the fact that the rider is forced to waive his right to have the maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter if he wants to order an Uber Fixed Fare Taxi.
I don't know how much cheaper they are ... if at all, in reality. I covered one to DAP the other day (rate 1) and the fixed fare was €53.xx. The maximum fare permitted by law as calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter was €46.60, 24 min ride + 2 min run in. In the course of a discussion elsewhere I checked Uber's Fixed Price Taxi rate to DAP from O'Connell St. Upper up above in Dublin (Saturday rate 1) and it was €23.xx... add on the €1 tech fee and that's €24.xx... Tap wanted ~24 EUR for the same job.
-
Competition can only operate one way .There is a MAXIMUM Metered Fare how do you compete with that DOWNWARD only just like Upward Only rents .Think of the Outcome when the Thingey states Booking Apps are stand alone booking .Nothing to do with Taxis .Now They say We charge a Booking Fee Surge Booking Fees for early morning or Christmas time .But then we pass on OUR bookings to Licenced DRIVERS both taxi or hack as long as they are Licenced .Now the apps offer you full Metered fares but 40% commission .All totally legal .The Solution at the Moment is Tap A Taxi or work the streets .The Taxithingey has promoted Competition it makes dispatchers licences available to anybody who meets the entry requirement .
We never done well out of any protests .Stickers .(9year rules .Suitability .Every problem we highlighted they found a solution but not the one we expected .
-
I suggest you read the link Watty posted in another thread ( http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=19038.0 (http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=19038.0) )
Forcing competition out to monopolise a market is anti-competitive. I get that you don't understand that and that it's taking our discussion beyond what taxi drivers might reasonably be expected to understand but the men protesting obviously do understand what is happening and do understand what the next stage of Uber's market manipulation will be. As noted previously, I get why you think you will force all the immigrants back to where they came from by supporting Uber and covering it's reduced fixed fares up above in Dublin. However, the fact that you think Uber will increase the rates it pays you once you have forced all the immigrant drivers back to where they came from is laughable. Once you're happy to do the work the portion of the fare that Uber pays you will only ever decrease. Limo drivers are already paying them 25% commission and Free Now already charges it's Taxi drivers 25% commission.
-
Be it Irish or Immigrant I dont give a fuck about any other taxi driver .I run my Business .Lads who couldnt wait to label up becoming ambassadors grabbing all the fares they could spreading the Apps diminishing MY street work now getting shit on I dont care about any of them just like they didnt care about me .Now the quicker UBER Free Now all the Apps charge 40 or 50 % Commission the sooner the men will drop them .No apps more street work then I compete on an even Pitch .At present Im forced into using an app because the street work is not there .There use to be men on here boasting about how many jobs they were covering and how much they were making .They are gone very quiet .
-
Street work isn't making a recovery any time soon. The apps have expanded the private hire market and that is the only sector that will see significant expansion going forward. For taxi drivers, having access to work anywhere in the 26 counties (32 when our law chuckys) is a huge advantage. Gone are the days when we had to drive back to the area(s) in which we are licensed to ply or sand for hire, gone are the days when we had to drive back to the area(s) served by the depot (if any) to which we subscribed. For riders, having access to taxis on demand on systems that can process hundreds of jobs simultaneously is a game changer and a game changer that results in them using more taxis, albeit on a private hire basis. Remember when a bus broke down 20 years ago and the entire queue at three or four bus stops would migrate to the hackney depot to queue for non-existent hackneys or taxis that covered hackney fares... not any more, they just whip their clever phones out and with a couple of taps of their clever fingers they have a cab on demand. There's no doubt that the apps have revolutionised the trade and that's not going to be reversed regardless of how many reduced rate fixed fares you cover for Uber up above in Dublin.
The real problem is that we have very few private hire vehicles on account of entry liberalisation back in 1999 but you should bear in mind that the current temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon hackney licences is, in fact, a temporary moratorium. Again, we're getting very technical here but temporary means it can be lifted at any time.

Uber has years of experience in America of manipulating their drivers psychologically. They're doing similar with us. And we've all seen the same fare start at, say, a tenner, then €12, then €14 until someone takes it. They've automated how to maximise their profits and minimise ours. They have data from millions of fares and probably know exactly, to the cent, how little we're prepared to take.
Secondly, it's stupid and counterproductive to be complaining about maximum fares because (a) nobody cares about you / us and (b) we all look for discounts when we food shop or buy white goods etc. You can't take your food discounts on the Sat shop and then turn up on a Wed complaining about discounts in your taxi... The public will just shake their heads if you're got Uber/Lyft stickers on your taxi and Lidl bags in the boot.
-
Ah the Penny is Dropping .Those taxi men objecting to poor RIDERS being unable to access AFFORDABLE fares as dispatched by UBER .Watch this protest for branded vehicles lads protesting against the people who they are advertising for reward .I would estimate most BRANDED UBER drivers can offset the fixed fares by the wages they recieve for branding .Slow Drive Protest will be a Mobile APP Billboard .You couldnt create this level of stupit with LSD .

The public will just shake their heads if you're got Uber/Lyft stickers on your taxi and Lidl bags in the boot.
They have a bot offers the job in rotation if you take 10er jobs they will offer them to you and them only .If you only cover airport work the Bot will offer the job to the lad who gives biggest discounts Do DAP to bray once for 50 you will never see anything better .
-
Only Competition I have seen in the Industry over the last 3 years is area 18 to add competition to existing drivers who work there .Lads willing to pay to wait for high comission reduced rated work .
-
I think yis should all follow my lead and work a bit harder with less complaining...

We know that and the men protesting know that, Watty. The issue isn't the fare as far as I'm concerned. Regulation sets the maximum rate as the rate calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter unless the rider waives his right to have his fare calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter. The problems are brought about by the anti-competitive nature of market manipulation techniques employed by the multinationals. NTA has a duty to promote competition. Allowing the multinationals monopolise the market is a dereliction of that duty, plain and simple. In reality, what NTA ought to be most concerned about is Uber requiring riders to waive their right to have the fare calculated by the Dublin centric taximeter.
You have to appreciate that the men orgainising the protest are mobilising taxi drivers. There's no point explaining the intricacies of legislation but they all know there's never going to be a law or regulation written that says "Uber may not..." or "Uber may..." However, simplifying the men's concerns into a personalised campaign against a particular organisation serves to demonstrate where regulation might need amendment given advances in technology. As you and others have noted the men protesting aren't going to win the hearts and minds of the traveling public by getting in front of microphones recounting anecdotes of Uber wanting them to do a 45 minute fare for €100... on a bleedin' Sunday... they tink we're bleedin' slaves anall... but it might serve to promote a wider debate on how fit for purpose current regulation of the market is given the aforementioned advances in technology.
-
Rodent the Issue has always been City Centric .You remember the O Connell Barricade .Lads from Dublin and ..and ..and think there was one lad from down the country .Most rural taxis never used the meter it was fixed fares but with the cost of new meters recalibration lads thought ah sure why not .The Licencing in Country Wide but lads in Dublin only see it from their perspective .So unless the Taxi thingey issue a Dublin Only Dispatch licence with restrictions .the lowest common denominator will apply .No Rural TD will support the abolition of fixed fares or charging less than the Maximum taxi Fare Allowable . Imagine this as a Tug of War the few Leftie loonies that support dont hug your granny adverts and taxi drivers against rural TDs .There will be no beneficial change to taxi drivers and no impediment to RIDERS getting best fares .I always reckoned never ask a question if you do not already know the answer .If you ask a question it should only be to get your answer confirmed .?
-
We know NTA have a statutory duty to promote competition. Facilitating market manipulation is anti-competitive, it's as simple as that!
Rural TDs are irrelevant. NTA employs (not directly) clever people with expertise in how markets work. They're never going to do anything that would prove detrimental to the trade in totality. The maximum fare is a maximum for a reason.
-
We no NTA have a statutory duty to promote competition. Facilitating market manipulation is anti-competitive, it's as simple as that!
Who is manipulating the market ,you or I can get a Dispatchers Licence ?If like Pre Dereg Dispatchers Licences were limited then the market could be manipulated .Leading the Market may look like manipulation but its also seen as Competition .
-
Uber is manipulating the market. You, I or anyone else could, indeed, do the same if we had billions of euros to subsidise taxi fares and bribe the authorities to let us. The fact is I don't have billions of euros and neither do the taxi and hackney firms that have been serving their communities all over the country for many years. It's not (fair) competition. Once the market is monopolised the subsidies are withdrawn and the end result is an anti-competitive Monopoly or Duopoly. As noted, I understand that's all very technical and well beyond the scope of our discussions.
DO licences didn't exist pre-dreg.
-
i know DO licences did not exist the Point I failed to Make is DO licences are not limited as Taxi licences were .Thank you for the correction .A Duopoly is competition a Monopoly is non Competitive !
-
By definition a Dupoly carries a high risk of being anti-competitive. In our trade that has proved to be the case where either Uber and Lyft or Uber and Bolt have formed Duopolies and that is what NTA and it's contracted experts ought to understand. Like I said it's not something I expect you to understand but the men protesting have seen and can see how those duopolies have played out in other jurisdictions. We are lucky to have a regulatory framework that is supposed to promote competition and obviously needs to review how appropriate current regulation of licensed dispatch operators is given advances in technology.
Your concluding that Uber will increase the fares it pays you when you force the immigrants back where they came from is pure lunacy. The portion of the fare Uber gives you is never going to increase. The men protesting can see that, you can't.
-
Instead of complaining about awful Uber is treating us, we should reframe it so the NTA have something to work with. If the fares drop too low, this could comprimise the safety and ccomfort of the travelling public. If the fares are too low, we could go back to the days of driving bangers (albeit 10 yrs old) instead of shiny EV's. If the fares go too low, we could hold back on safety items like new tyres etc. The NTA already hire clever people every 2 years to work out the maximum fare, throw them an extra few quid and work out what is too low for the welfare, comfort and safety of the travelling public. Kinda a taxi version of 'won't someone think of the children' :P
-
Limit public hire licences to EVs under 3YO with monthly NCTS certificates?
The current meter is too low in Dublin in my experience (38 mins inc. run in to take €28.xx on a job from King St. North to DAP) and too high on some (but not all) fares originating outside of the big cities (32 mins inc. run in to take €73 on a job from Stamullen to DAP)... One size doesn't fit all.
-
It's not (for me) about how awful Uber is treating us, it's how current dispatch operator licensing regulation facilitates market manipulation, market manipulation that is anti- competitive and is proven to ultimately deliver adverse consequences for both riders and drivers.

What do we want…………dont know
What do we want!
A cure for Tourette's!
When do we want it!
CUNT!

Speaking of market manipulation and excluding competitors.... Aldi and Lidl should face same rules on UK store openings as rivals, says watchdog (https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2026/0807/1586931-aldi-lidl-should-face-same-rules-on-uk-store-openings/)
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) proposal would prevent the German discount brands from blocking rival supermarkets opening close to their stores. Rules designed to stop large grocery retailers from using land agreements to make it harder for rival supermarkets to open nearby, particularly through restrictive covenants and exclusivity arrangements, were introduced in 2010.
Those nasty German discounters were using all the tricks in the book (allegedly) to stop rivals operating on their patch but the UK regulator stepped in to ensure the honest-to-goodness housewife could buy her childer's dinners at a fair competitive price. Probably banned below cost selling as well.
What do we want? Safe food at a decent price [for the consumer]
The NTA could learn from this. If a business can get dominant enough to change/manipulate the rules and exclude rivals, that's bad for competition and bad for the consumer/passenger.
What do we want? Safe taxis at a decent price [for the passenger]

THE PROTESTERS WILL GET WHAT THEY DESERVE the rest of us will get fucked .

The Nigerians put Uber in their place:

I, for one, won't work during the protest.

Protest All they Like .Look back at the Last one and look at this one .Notice how DIVERSE the crowd are .Irish,African,Indian ? Or mainly Asian .Word dropped in my direction .There is more to this than Taxi issues as most if not ALL the protesters run the UBER App .The word Im hearing is this is an attempt by certain people to establish themselves as the recognised body or person to represent their community with ALL Governmet departments on behalf of their Community .Visas ,Schools,Housing ,Places of Worship .Not as well promoted on Facebook as the last one .It is now a Whatsapp Group .How did you hear about this protest ?
-
That'd suggest there's people with a bit of political know how, something we've certainly lacked over the years. Maybe they could get some representation on city/council councils?

I think the suggestion is that the groups protesting are working towards other agendas other than fixed fares ... ie greater esteem for want of a better word for ther own... exclusive to everyone else .... whos idea of equality an fairness that welcomed them into the county in the first place.... may not be ther top priority.... I cud be rong but very seldom am if ever ...

The stated objectives seem pretty clear to me.
The men protesting have attracted political support from many quarters, most notably People Before Profit and should welcome that support.
Obviously Govt/NTA will gauge the level of support for Uber in it's current form from how well or poorly supported relevant protest action proves to be.
The erm has expressed his support for Uber and has gone as far as to suggest that he favours further reductions in the rates paid to drivers by Uber. Initially that struck me as bizarre given that he was on this very forum whinging about Uber reducing the rates it pays him on a Sunday for two or three weeks in a row before that change of heart. However, he has justified his latest stance by explaining that he believes that covering the reduced fares will force those drivers who can't afford to cover them (immigrants in the main) out of business and ultimately result in Uber increasing the rates it pays remaining drivers. Personally, I don't think either of those things will happen.
I'm sure other drivers have other reasons for supporting Uber and that is their right.
How is Kaspa doing these days?
-
I dont think it will work that plan

To build a political movement from a taxi protest? No chance... very few of us vote.... but any political support we can attract ought to be welcomed.

How is Kaspa doing these days?
Kaspa is doin fine .... wer bout bottom of bear market .... ultimately itll probly take 10 yers before apes are paying for ther robot taxis in crypto but its coming ..... in the mean time chill ou relax an stop lookin at charts .... as i said last week .. ya dont invest in a pension an watch its performance chart every day.... thats mental illness not investing .....
As regards pigs before profit ...if barrot an murphy the champagne socialists an jihadi jew haters are involved in the protest today ide be very surprised...ther more interested in the jihad an requesting apes to join in the burning an looting of europe an want it here ..... I find it intriguing that the munskins and the purple hair lgbt headcases allianance that theyed murder that are burning europe have done so in all jurisdictions that the right have made political gains lately .... I guess they dont like the idea of democracy ...
I wudnt discount wat johnny m is saying neither bout other agendas at play if that wat hes implying .....
As for me its all a load o bollix as the good doc wud say ......
The real power is in yur finger tips jus DELETE UBER ..... it really is that simple but taxi drivers aint know for ther intelligence
Are they ....
The opportunity has been given to all drivers wit great initiative by driveres for drivers to produce an irish taxi driver app for all drivers no matter
Ther creed nor colour and it has been under attack on social media by not only uber bots an paid sabateurs but also the stickered up priority brigade who see it as a threat to ther priority an who on the one hand boast about ther priority an earnings an now are giving out about the 25% commission they are paying to ther masters .... now they want to protest about the very system they wer actively involved in and assisted these apps in ther implementation....
I for one as you all know have bean warning on here about this for at least 10 years .... now its time to say I told you so ....
Thankfully I dont need the taxi anymore as its only something to drive up the bus lanes and to alleviate middle-aged boredom.....
Most dont get it yet but as I said a yer ago on here you are all unemployed.... I realised this a long time ago .... ill giv yis one more bit of advice .... prepare for it now .... dont wait till its gone completely... be proactive in the transition ....
In the mean time ill support tap till the very end and I commend them for actually doing something rather than talkin a load o shoite for yers on the internet like meself an so many others for decades ..... they are your last hope

I don't discount the erm's agenda. I just don't see it working on either count. Deleting Uber might have worked when Derek instructed his union members to delete it but he got no support from any of the other unions. It's too late for that now. They have enough work to make a case for p2p rideshare if taxi drivers don't want it. While they might not get p2p they'd probably settle for the temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon hackney plates being lifted.

Its a grand hobby ... sumtin to top up yur owld age pension owld fuks .... if yur lucky enough ta hav the oap .... yu made a very shrewd move gettin yur learner driver teachin license.... thers bout a dozen learner cars round me estate reversein round corners at any one time ...
All the immigrants dependin on a taxi to pay rent an bring up kids are absolutely fucked ... they wer hoodwinked and used ... again they can drive a bus ... the benifits are for life and very generous, ya cant be sacked with unlimited overtime a nice pension you can pay extra into matched by the company and 30% added by the government.. so it miten be as bad as they tink ....
Ill keep supporting tap ... protest days are over for most of the owlfellas on here ... half yiz hav one foot in the grave ... then thers the robots .... theyll be here sooner than most believe

It mightn't be as bad as you think.
Great turnout. Well done all.
The few lads I spoke with were very much focused on abolishing fixed fares and saver fares. There was no mention of any wider agenda and unlike any protest I've attended in the past there was no collection plate.
I didn't see any Uber branded cars in the convoy. There was some Free Now branded cars, probably rentals... some crossed out with masking tape.
