Title: Ban Passenger Phones in taxies
Post by: john m on September 09, 2017, 11:36:40 am
In the ould days your taxidriver was like the Oracle at  Delphi he knew everything .The last bloke he had in the car told him yer one Una off the Telly was riding Billy who played inside right for Rovers and as it was our duty we passed on this little bit of fact to the next passenger who informed us that although Edam Cheese was Dutch it was made in Avoca in Wicklow by a German bloke and his Irish Missus .Now that was a useless bit of knowledge but you stuck it in the back of your head just in case somebody said "Do you know where I might get a nice bit of Cheese "? You would relay all this information about cheese then embellish it with a bit of garnish like "You know yer one Una off the telly that is riding the footballer she likes cheese .Well now our reputation for knowing everything about everything and having an opinion about everything is coming under attack by  passengers using their mobile phones and not talking to their taxi driver .

Most of us still know everything about everything, well not the fare from A to B, that's on the meter. Some of the lads used signal blockers over the years to silence the (predominately London) businessmen who always seem to be dealing with crises at high volume.

In the auld days most people were too polite to tell the driver he's full of shite.
