Title: Irish Wheelchair Assoc on Transport for Budget 2018.
Post by: The Liffey Lip on September 16, 2017, 11:54:49 am
TAXI’S
•Very large contracts are awarded by the state on an annual basis to Taxi operators. In the tender process for the awarding of these contacts, considerable extra weighting should be given to Taxi operators with accessible vehicles.
•The retention of the €1m subsidy scheme currently awarded to taxi operators, who purchase accessible vehicles, should be managed by the National Transport Authority to increase a nationwide spread of accessible taxis.
•Target of 15% of all taxis to be accessible by 2020. Currently only 5% of fleet is accessible

Will the Wheelchair Association give up personal grants to wheelchair users to modify their cars and put that cash into Wheelchair Accessable taxi grants ?

It seems like a re-hash of what they said in 2015, but I didn't study it too hard.

There's a simple solution taking a public private partnership approach with a slight Irish twist. Ask mytaxi how much it would be willing to invest in subsidising WATs in return for NTA simplifying the current entrance exam and contracting mytaxi to operate DAAs ranks.

I don't think we'll get PUC. While mytaxi advise that it's the biggest complaint drivers have, neither Joe Heron nor the erm see it as an issue. Look at the bigger issues, last year three mytaxi drivers retired for every new driver.

Indeed. That's the kinda commitment we need to back mytaxi. Forget about the idiots standing out in the rain trying to give you full fare without any commission.
