A member of the Independent Alliance has threatened to vote against Shane Ross's drink-driving legislation unless incentives are introduced for rural taxis.
Galway East TD Seán Canney wants a package of measures in the Budget to offset what he sees as the potential damage to rural life from stricter drink-driving laws.

Ferocious lobbying going on. Sometimes I think being a TD must be a nightmare. Hard to knock a woman who's lost a son or daughter when they mention it in every context.

I had a bet on an election this year FG might like to go now before things turn bad .If Ross does not get the support of his own Party or the Government parties in this vote the shit might hit the fan.TD are self serving cunts they are cutting rural busses nobody looked for more taxies but when a lad cant get out for a gargle there is a problem .Rideshare was a possible answer but Ross ruled that out .I wonder if the timing was deliberate toremove that option and force FG to back him .150/1 a December Election.

I think the timing of the breathalyser thingy is very dubious. Get the public all up in a frenzy about trust and faith and you never know the fallout. We're both wrong probably.

Dont tink it be before xmas

Ross would love to pull down this government .Then stand in the Election as the man who tried to save lives .FG shit all over him with the Judicial appointments thingey .Enda put Whelan in the Supreme court and Leo appointed a new Chief Justice those posts were supposed to be filled by an independent body .Watch this space budget passed in October then FG might pull the plug .If 1 or more of the Independ Alliance start messing .

Paddy Power were betting 150/1 a December Election so I had a small bet .Opinion polls look good for FG so they might go for it ?

The Luas is independent, erm... but once the tracks are laid, that's the way it goes.

If people/drivers won't spend €50 for a local area hackney licence, they're hardly likely to spend 'big' and get a taxi.

Cranny wont support his own party .I think he was once a FF Councillor in Galway .He has dropped the request for any sort of grants for Taxies ,as you said watty you can get a Farmers Hack for 50 but nobody wants them .Dont be surprised to see Cranny leave the Alliance and join FF
