Title: Vinny offering a grand a week again on Donedeal
Post by: mercenary for hire on October 26, 2017, 11:14:49 am
Type taxi into the search bar on Dungdeal and Vinny has an advert offering a bag of sand again...well almost..

We're back to bags of sand again....i'd say there's a wankfest in Revenue....they even extended the ROS pay and file from the 14th to 16th Nov.

How does the guarantee work? Does the driver have to work a minimum number of hours, etc... ?

About 70 or 80 probably.

You'd get a bag a lot easier than that with mytaxi, no guarantees though.

I suppose it’s possible up there in Dublin, here in Cork it’s still a hard old slog to get through the week.

Ken seems to do alright. JM can't be doing badly given that he can turn his nose up at bonuses of up to three ton a week. Sure, Deboy back on Roy's didn't even want full fare from mytaxi, he was coining it in despite allowing discounts of up to 36%... If anything, there's a lot more to be earned down below in Cork than up above in Dublin. I think you could be pulling our legs a bit, bey.

Don’t do nights RC so the bonus is no good to me especially when I’m affiliated to a base.
Just because mytaxi are offering a bonus I’m hardly going to drop our regular customers in favour of mytaxi for one night a week.
Even if they offered it during the day I still wouldn’t do it.
Wouldn’t ab able to do it anyway as I have my own contracts to look after.
Still don’t charge the full 2 bucks on mytaxi, era a Euro is enough.
I’m not that hard up for a couple of Euro.

Did you go for a few scoops with Ken the other night ?

The latter I’d say.
Even though ye are 160 miles away you will still hear the echo this weekend.

That's as close as you'd get to trummers and monkeys up above in Dublin. Dublin drivers can't afford to discount work they are paying for... unless they want to work 60 hours/week just to make ends meet.

Ye must be making some serious coin if you can work less than 60 hours a week in this game.

35 hours would be a long week for me, I don't need to earn "serious coin".

No mortgage so and kids going to college.

I have a mortgage, kids going to college, holidays to pay for and all of that but Mrs. Catcher works too and the young lads have part-time jobs to earn their own pocket money. Work-Life balance is important. If you took the bonuses and charged full fare you could probably drastically reduce the hours you work.

There's something to that...drivers mentioning working 60 hours a week at the same time as not feeling the need to charge full fare.Must be the hack mindset.

Of the 6 mytaxi jobs I have done this week, I would have an extra 6 bucks in my pocket.
Don’t work nights so bonus no good to me.
My priority is with my base who I pay a sub to each month.

That's 300 quid a year in app PUCs.Enough to cover the insurance increases or take 3 days off...

That’s a fairly low daily target you have.

Yeah it is but it changes at different times during the year.No car loan,1800 a year on fuel,no base fees, only app fees on the work I cover, small mortgage.I worked enough during the downturn.I'm comfortable. No need to earn extra.Still able to eat/drink out if I want.Life is good.

Maybe some drivers are better at driving taxis than me, but I earn close to minimum wage after expenses for a 50 hour week. My accounts prove it. I suppose I do get to use my taxi for personal use, so that’s a plus.

I wouldn't say we're that different in Dublin Vs Cork. The fare card is the same.We can only cover one fare at a time.If you're paying a base you are at a 5k a year disadvantage plus any discounts.Surely there are lads working without radios/Mytaxi in Cork? The lower your expenses the more money you make per mile with the meter on.Just like any other business.

It would be interesting to see what yis are spending on maintenance.Mine is very low but I suspect Skoda deisel owners aren't so lucky?

I don't do 35 hours regularly, TD. In fact I've only exceeded 30 hours a handful of times in the last couple of years, invariably influence by bonus chasing. My average would be closer to 20 hours/week taking holidays, lazy months, etc into account.

However, I wouldn't consider 35 hours to be excessive. Most full time employees do that as a minimum and spend another few hours commuting. Of course, it's not an exact science. While I might feel tired after a relatively short shift, a younger fitter man would be capable of doing the same again and hitting a disco bar afterwards!

Like yourself Rodent under 30 hours a week is enough .hard to motivate yourself to bother absolutely no job satisfaction in this type of work .

Given that you're not a younger, fitter man that seems realistic. You can create job satisfaction by setting yourself readily achievable monetary targets, I guess mytaxi's dedicated shifts do similar in setting (not so readily achievable) job targets.

I work 4 nights a week and that a struggle. The thought of getting into the car on a Saturday night is horrible, and while I try to have a nap before I go out, and end up staying in bed, and hating that I didn't go out the night before. What I'm usually thinking about most, is why the hell didn't I drive an automatic.
