Google Navigation now in app:
On Monday the 11th of December we will be launching mytaxi Navigation, our brand new navigation tool built with Google Maps.
This is going to be one of our biggest and most beneficial updates to date and we can’t wait for you to experience it.

I hate it

Hate is a strong word. Perhaps you will come round to merely disliking it in the fullness of time.

That'a about the extent of my list too !
-
I'm not impressed with the new nav system so far, the First Two jobs that I got off it
last night were both well off the mark of where the customer actually was.
Last night I was 'slightly unofficially' ranked outside of our old base on Douglas street
right outside of Coughlan's pub, (A favoured Perch of mine) a Mytaxi job came in
fer 150M away on Langford row, I accept the job and drive the 150 Meters to the
destination only fer the customer to ring me and tell me that he is in Coughlan's pub !
The Second job I got off it brought me to Reidy's pub on the Western road, while my
customer was actually 200M further up the road by the River Lee hotel.

The MyPavee app can help there.
-
Have you got Uber in Cork, Ken. Good work on it up above in Dublin.
-
I think we are not allowed to hate knackers Knackerism? Knackerphobia? one of those . It's OK to hate UBER (and brown paper packages tied up with string)
-
Just turn off the navigation.
-
PC nonsense. Plenty of men are racist, why should they have to pretend not to be? I've often been flagged down and asked if I'm Irish. If I say no (which I do if I'm in a playful humour) they don't get in. If I say yes, they do.
-
Is this just on iPhone? We already have navigation on Android.
-
No, the navigation is in-app now like Uber... so I presume the ridiculously oversized Navigate button is gone - another one to cross off the list!.
-
When you accept a job and you don’t want the navigation on you can just turn it off.
-
Igor my first job today with the navigation on. Customer was no where near where I was supposed to ick him up BUT the app wanted me to go a further 3.5 kms to turnaround to pick up the customer, besides there being an estate right beside where the customer was supposed to be.

Plenty of women are racist too! are sure you are not being just a little bit just being sexist?
-
They are but they tend to be more subtle. A good few women have told me they always cancel if the app (presumably, mytaxi) sends them an immigrant. I actually had to do that myself once as one of the men who was sharing the cab was adamant that he wouldn't travel with an immigrant.

The standard reply should always be...."If you have to ask...you can't afford me".

Anyone experiencing any issues with the updated app. When I get a job now the icons disappear from my notification panel and I have to use recent apps button to get back to it
-
You just press X (or something) on the screen and the navagation goes off so you can see call passsnger icon etc.
-
The button is the information icon.
-
Navigation is OK but the app tends to crash. also sometimes you don't get the job but you still get the navigation to the job .

I had that problem with the app crashing. If you turn off traffic info in settings it does not crash.Obviously they still have more work to do with their programs.
-
Will the navigation feature still pick the most efficient route if you turn off traffic info?

I don't no to be honest.I tend to ignore it anyway.

Good to hear,
I thought I was the only One getting the ridiculous destinations !
-
Having covered 25 jobs on Saturday I've probably used the latest version more than anyone else. I find the navigation OK, the routes aren't always the one's I'd follow but they'll get you to the destination and it's easy to silence with the speaker icon. The number of riders entering destinations is increasing all the time (possibly down to it being an exceptionally busy night with punters figuring they're more likely to get service if they input their destination) so the navigation feature makes the job a lot easier for the immigrants that can't speak english and haven't a clue where they're going - it's a while since we had a whinge about them! It'll also prove hugely beneficial to new entrants. Back when I started we had nothing more than the map book, how things have changed. The way it's going it won't be long before the fukking cars driver themselves!
On the negative side the Android app no longer posts a notification icon when it's running in the background. This breaks convention and flies in the face of best practice guidelines which state that the icon is necessary (not just desirable) to let the user know that the app is using his device's resources. It also provides a simply way to call the app to the foreground and switch between apps. However, mytaxi's background running was always shit so this could be deliberate to encourage drivers to keep it on screen, particularly with new firms launching driver apps,
Aside from that, the fare entry process is still shit. It took 13 minutes to load the payment screen after one job on Saturday night, I'd forgotten what the fukking fare was by the time it popped up! It hasn't crashed as such for me yet but I've had to force close it a couple of times when it froze on job cancelled by passenger alerts. I also had a client tell me he cancelled without my having been told but that's happened a few times prior to the latest updates.

This is the shitest bit of th new update.
Also unfortunately the app is only as good as the person holding the phone.
Received a job during the night (Duke Lane), stupidly i followed the navigation(head was melted with Christmas dickheads (I mean revelers) and it brought me to clarendon street. Customs rang and asked could I pick her up on Dawson Street, I said nope. Customer cancelled and 8 times it gave me the same job but this time it was down as Clarendon Street.
As I said the app is only as good as the person at the other end of it.
-
also sometimes you don't get the job but you still get the navigation to the job .
I noticed that one, too. Only solution I found was to close the app and open it again.
-
Just turn the fukin thing off altogether!!
-

Which one ? You?
-
Just turn the fukin thing off altogether!!
Untill mid January !
-
Which one ? You?
No. I've travelled with immigrant drivers on a number of occasions both from ranks and via eHail. I've never experienced any of the problems I hear clients complain of... it doesn't matter to me whether they know where they're going or not, if I don't know myself I have satnav on my clever phone and I've yet to be raped or murdered.
-
also sometimes you don't get the job but you still get the navigation to the job .

I figured that out. I have noticed that I'm arriving for some jobs lately only to see punters jumping into another cab or another cab arriving with me .It happened this morning and I deftly blocked his exit while I rang the passenger then he jumped out and into my car. he said the driver said he was MyTaxi but was guessing (wrongly) the punters name. I figure that he missed the job but still got the navigation to it so he thought he would head on up and poach it. It could be more of an issue in January. I think I've lost 3 or 4 jobs this way since the update. Mount Street Mob take note!
-
people always say that to me.
"I ordered a mytaxi but I'm getting in your car."
Is the person penalised or do they get charged a cancellation fee for not waiting on the mytaxi car they ordered?
-
No I don't think they are penalized(they should be ).This particular punter came out of his house which the other car had driven straight to right in front of me. and he had booked to pay on account so he wanted the right car. W@nkers who don't bother wait for cars that the called and don't even bother to cancel, phone or even answer the phone when you call them are not the kind of punters I want, so I usually block them straight off.
-
They're not penalised but the driver ought to be compensated. However, since mytaxi automated payment of no contact fees I've had two that weren't paid. Hence it is no longer viable to use at peak times save when bonuses are available.
-
Is anybody having the map freeze? I'm having this issue and the map just stops and leaves me stopped in a location I passed through 20 mins before hand then I get job offers from that location. The only way to resolve is to shut down the app and restart, crazy time of year to make such a major upgrade.

Had that once or twice on the old system. In my case switching location off and back on solved it.

Is the hugathon on the 17th Jan?
Yis woukd want to double up on the condoms down there lads....burds have fannies that would ate ye!!

Another irritating bug... the navigation isn't muted when you receive a phone call. Your wan telling you to go this way and that way while the client is trying to explain where she really is... all for the want of two lines of code.
-

Just press the mute button..... Simples
-
Once the phone rings the mute button isn't on screen as the voice call app's interface is displayed prompting me to swipe right to answer the call and then press the speaker button so I can hear the caller without unhooking the clever telephone from the air vent... once that is done the client is talking interspersed with the sat nav virtual woman's directions so my attention is immediately divided between driving the motor car and conversing with the client. To start fiddling about with the telephone to get the mytaxi app back into the foreground to press more buttons would present yet another unnecessary distraction.
-
Just mute it when you accept your next job...it'll stay like that till you unmute it....although i'd say ye like burds tellin ye what to do!!
-
Just keep it on Mute, hardly likely that we need de Google maps bitch to tell us where to go !
-

In general it takes about Two or Three minutes to establish that it's going to be a 'No-contact'.
Fer myself, I sit and wait it out fer the remaining few minutes.
After 5 minutes pass I cancel the job with a "No show" explanation.
And then go to "Job history", click on last job, then click on
"Issues with my fare", another screen pops up.
I click on "Request a cancellation fee" and I am prompted to enter the
word 'Scrub' in the box provided.
I do so and are always/almost paid my Fiver Scrub fee.
-
To be fair to MyTaxi, I had One kount who cancelled after 4 minutes and 55 seconds,
and after I sent feedback to them, they still paid me the Fiver Scrub fee.
-
This cunt canceled while on route, if I was outside his house I'd have kicked his/her door down..

As far as I know you are entitled to your scrub fee once you have arrived at the pick up place and the customer cancels, you only have the 5 minute stipulation if it's you cancelling and not the customer, that's the way I think it works.
-
That's the way it works for me. One of the two that were refused was down to slow interweb resulting in job duration being shown as 3 minutes on the job history list despite the counter recording 5 minutes before I cancelled. Fukk knows why the other wasn't paid but interestingly both were on the first day or two of the new automated system. All (probably 6 or 7) have been paid since.
-
If not the customer could have you drive to their house from wherever and leave you sitting outside for 4 minutes and 59 seconds then cancel with no charge,so as long as you've pulled up outside the address and hit arrived you've done your part of the bargain.
-

NASTY !!
About 170Euro on that ?

I reckon about €250!

NTA website quotes it at 170 to 200,
but I suppose 250 would be closer if you went via Cavan !

'Kick n de Bollocks' to lose that one and it
would have nearly brought yiz ugly home.
-
Got the airport to Athlone some time ago. €280 on the night rate lol

The Long jobs can be hard on the old body after yiz pass the 50 year mark.
I fer One won't ever leave Cork county again on anything only the metered fare.
The Cork-Belfast job that I passed on to a colleague a couple of weeks back,
I was delighted in the end that I passed it on, because ya wouldn't have seen
me fer Two or Three days after doing that journey.

That Job probably was never going to happen . It has wind-up written all over it .
-
Probably a disgruntled passenger confirming, to himself, that the job would be covered if it was worth driving for.

Dunno about that, got one from Newbridge Co kildare to Dublin city centre over the Christmas

Quite possibly
-
I caught one recently from wayside cottages in Kilternan going to Wexford, I came from the M50 just after Dundrum all the way up to The Corner at the Golden Ball and It was cancelled So I thought I go to the address (only seconds away) and wait there just in case the cancellation was a fat finger mistake or see if another taxi beat me to it as has happened before.I sat there for 10 or more mins and no other car arrived although I did see some curtains twitching. so I figure you don't plan a journey like that and then change your mind at the last second .I put it down to assholery .
-

It wasn't so much of a 'Wind-up' but the client needed the job done but didn't really want to pay fer it.
The job did go ahead in the end and most likely John M and Rats will get to meet the driver that did it
when they come to Cork on the 17th.

They might have meant Wexford St in town and only noticed it when you were already ordered and just took the easy way out and cancelled,I got one a while back and the address was in Limerick or Cork and it was just an O Connell St or similar in Dublin, happens with South Gt Georges St and Georges St Dun Laoire a fair bit
-
Or maybe when they saw yisser ugly faces.
-
Another annoying bug... When location is turned off and it prompts you to turn it on it doesn't resume i.e. after turning on location and pressing back to return to mytaxi you have to close and open it again to log in.
