Title: The perfect App
Post by: john m on February 21, 2018, 11:16:16 am
Should the NTA introduce a taxi app?The upside every taxi would automatically be enrolled and the operating cost would come out of you increased (possibly) licence fee .Jobs always going to nearest driver to cut down on congestion and wasted journey time so we use less fuel and dont wear out the roads .The app would not be mandatory you use it if you want .This would be commission free with only a small charge to offset non cash transactions .Yes the NTA would know where and when you work and revenue would know how much app work you take and you would be liable for all your taxes as you are now .It would seem the logical thing to campaign for a National taxi app run and operated by the state .Im sure 12% commission paid by drivers at the moment or weekly freight is greater than most drivers tax bill .

As you know I was a proponent of NTA providing such infrastructure before we had commercial players. However, NTA won't disrupt a competitive market so that ship has sailed.

Potential disadvantages of a NTA app would include it's inability to exclude drivers who act the bollix - the DAA licensed villains never lose their licences for overcharging, in fact they don't even lose their DAA permits. We have even seen evidence of convicted drug dealers using union support to challenge Garda decisions to refuse their licences.
