Govt committed to introducing minimum passing distance for drivers when overtaking cyclists (https://www.rte.ie/news/2018/0228/944242-cyclists/)
Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport Shane Ross has committed to introducing a legal minimum passing distance (MPD) for drivers when overtaking cyclists. It will be set at 1.5 metres for roads where the speed limit is above 50km/h and one metre for areas where the limit is 50km/h or below. Minister Ross said it will come into effect as soon as Gardaí have procured equipment to measure passing distance.
In 2017 there were 15 cyclists killed, which was a 50% increase on 2016. "I have been extremely concerned about the rise in cyclists fatalities on our roads," Minister Ross said. "I am committed to do everything within my power to prevent preventable road deaths," he added. Minister Ross has directed the Road Safety Authority to carry out a study of best international practice and this will be published on the Department's website.
While the report states that little conclusive evidence is currently available to support or rebut claims that MPD legislation will specifically address cyclist fatalities, greater awareness by both motorists and cyclists while overtaking was recognised as having safety benefits. Minister Ross said; "if such awareness entails safer driving and fewer fatalities then it will be worth introducing the necessary legislation." In the interim, the RS A will be launching an awareness campaign recommending that drivers allow at least one metre overtaking distance when passing cyclists in speed zones up to 50 km/h and at least 1.5 metres when passing on roads with speed limits of over 50 km/h.
Should be fun driving down the northside quays from Heuston to Balchelors Walk in the mornings. Dublin Bus drivers will love this new rule, not!

They won't enforce it. The speed limit in much of the city is actually 30 kilos per hour, taxis aren't supposed to use Kildare St Northbound as a thoroughfare beyond the junction with Molesworth St, etc, etc...

I love the dick-head cyclists in the cab, their usual boastful line is; "My bike is so light that I can lift it with One finger !".
"Wow !" I reply "Can you really ? Well this is a D4 Fookin D 2 Liter Diesel injection, it has side impact protection, anti-skid, ABS braking and we are encased in a steel anti-roll cage with seat-belts and multiple Air-bags, it weighs in at about Two tons, if you and me were to meet in a collision who do you think would win ?".

Same Driver who wrote me off in 2010. Judge let him off penalty points and Dangerous driving (Through a Red light) if he coughed up €500 to me as an act of contrition, and because it's his livelihood.

There's a fuk that works Dublin that drives up the M1,i know he does be fallin asleep,keeps braking and car almost comes to a standstill...and then he fukin floors it...and just keeps doin that..anytime i meet him on the road i floor it past him...he actually tries to keep up and eventually i see the car in my rearview headin for the ditch and then he recovers it....i'll probably see him in the ditch one of these nights!!

I think I saw the guy once. Same story, he was parked kinda sideways on the motorway and then kept back going while I was going around him.

Seen him myself a few times, although I'd say there's more than one. A few years back the Dundalk and Drogheda drivers made sure all the immigrants working their patch with Loud/Mead SPSVDLs were given licences to work in Dublin.
