A Garda is being treated in hospital after being involved in a hit and run incident at a city centre checkpoint this morning.
The incident happened shortly before 11am, when the male Garda was struck at the checkpoint at the junction of Baggot Street and Waterloo Road.
The occupants of the vehicle then fled the scene, and their suspected vehicle was found abandoned on Waterloo Road a short time later.
In a statement, a Garda spokesman said: “A male Garda member is being treated in hospital following a collision with a vehicle on Baggot St. shortly before 11am.
"The Jeep/SUV fail to stop and crashed on Waterloo Road. Two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were seen running from the scene."
The area has since reopened to traffic.

A man and a woman have now been arrested in relation to the earlier hit and run. The Garda is reportedly recovering in St Vincent’s Hospital.

He might well Coin a few quid outta it, but personally I would rather
that my 'Retirement Package' did not involve getting hit by a Jeep !

They only brushed off him ffs, inanyways it wasn't a checkpoint as reported in the media, the cop recognised the driver as someone of interest and walked out into the traffic without a hi vis on him...... He's lucky he only got a smack of one car the dopey fecker.
