Says the man with Jack Charlton's picture above his mantlepiece!
I wasn't supporting them 'cos I have Croatia in the sweepstakes. However, given that my parents were both born in England, I wouldn't have been overly upset if they won. I was up above in Dublin last night for a pint and the whole pub seemed to be supporting England which I thought was odd.
They relinquished their territorial claim over NI a long time ago. The problem there is that the majority of the population is of Ulster Scots descent, peanuts as an acquaintance of mine calls them. We share little cultural commonality with them. Similarly, they don't have much in common with the English. Given that it's the twelfth, in their own words:

I dunno what Doob pubs yiz Doobs were in, but just by coincidence myself and Korky had a good day-out last Wednesday.
We started in Coughlans with about 20 people watching the match and there was a deathly silence when Engerland scored.
We moved on at Half-time to Fionnbarras where about 100 people were watching the second half.
Both Croatian goals got a standing ovation as did the ref's Full time whistle.
Very Fookin few English supporters down here in Cork !
-
Nice to hear it Ken,although why you chose to call a market after them,I dont (THE ENGLISH ) and Lizzie visit a few years back
-
I thought it was named after a trader. I think English is a not so common surname in them parts?
-
No, that's not correct Rats, it's named after the English who set it up.
The name bugs me aswell, but at this stage the traders
would be up in arms if'n the name were to be changed.

Who built cork Harbour
Dun Laoghaire Harbour,
All the architectures around our coasts in our cities of any significance were built by the British
Boat slips in particular, what have we built since they left,
I am now starting to regret that we left the Commonwealth.
-
I thought it was weetabix the builder that built them places
-
Who built cork Harbour.......
That would have been either Mother Nature or God !
Cork harbour is the biggest natural harbour in the world !!
We can actually get cruise ships to dock within 100 meters from St Patrick street.

I should have mentioned the forts around the harbour.
I know cork Harbour very well
I was in the Navy service reserve, for five years in my younger days,
Great memories of a great time.

Indeed you should have, you should have your facts straight before posting.
The Forts that you speak of in Cork are mainly derelict these days or used as
Tourist attractions or turned in to restaurants, and Yes indeed the vast majority
of these forts where built by the british to evade infultrating overseas armies.
-
They may very well have been designed by the Sasannachs but it was probably the Irish that they made build it all
-
Cork was always known as being very sympathetic towards the Royalists...as were parts of Dublin...Queenstown and Kingstown...Cobh and Dun Laoghaire...
-

Your most likely right there Vikkiz, but to be fair to the Brits, they knew how to build a decent building.
To name but a few in Cork we have City hall, the Courthouse, the Customs house which are all magnificent
stone buildings.

with Paddies stacking the brick.

Even the old Opera house in Cork was magnificent in it's stonework until the Tans burnt it down.

And then Paddy replaced it with this Fookin Glass monstrosity.
