Just watched the Pope drive from the Port to the Park about 300 people is all that bothered to line the roads .If there was any doubt that the Churches day in Ireland is over .I wonder who will get the biggest crowd in the Park Ed Sheerin or El Pappa .Be surprised if they see 250,000 .Sort of sad end of an era .RTE presenters struggling for something to say .
-
Totally disagree with you John, there will be a massive turnout for him.i actually met him 38/39 years ago when he was n ordinary Jesuit ,in Milltown park

RTE is heavily censored by the powers, no negativity of our little utopia can be broadcast on the national Airways
Vlad Putin is a amateur in comparison to our rulers,
I see the journal had a pole,
On the Pope's visit to Ireland,
which has now been taken down,
Anyway the majority of people in Ireland are not in favour with Papa peados visit,
I see the LGBT protesters are being restricted by our Garda,
-
And rightly so
-
Not sure Dollymount nobody lined the rout from the Park to The Castle .Its a different world Gay Taoiseach Lesbian minister for Children same sex mirage Divorce abortion .I was brought up a Catholic but it seems Irish Society has changed and our belief system has been changed by legislation .Had the Archbishop of Budapest in the car last night he was at an Ecumenical conference in Christ Church bet he wished he got a Muslim Driver rofl rofl
-
I have got such a turn off Mary macaleese.she is an ardent critic of the Catholic church because of their views on gays.this change only came about when it was revealed her own son was bent.now we are all supposed to embrace gays because she says so.she never opened her fukking mouth when she was president
-
Watching proceedings on TV all morning.they seem to be pushing the refugee ,and migrants issue to the fore.they even had a muzzie family in the park to meet the pope.its just a pity they highlight these people, when we have so many IRISH homeless.the priorities are all wrong methinks
-

Now im 100% in agreement with you .Never mentioned womens rights gay rights o when she was looking for votes a FUCKING SNYDE TRAMP .Met her when Gerry stood against her in the 1980 General Election a right piece of piss .People of Rathmines saw through her and ignored her .

Daly bud,
The Catholic Church in Ireland is no more, The fucked up , literally,
Religion is a crutch for a vulnerable insecure people,
The people of Ireland are more educated now,
Our women who have been and still are to this day treated like second class citizens by the Catholic Church,
Our women have grown much more confident and independent,
Try telling them they cannot use contraceptives, rofl
-
Sclass I believe religion to be a very private thing.having said that, I don't feel in any way insucure for practicing it.in fact it has helped me enormously to deal with the trials, and tribulations of life.i have what I call a higher power in my life, which I choose to call God.this higher power has removed many insecurities I had experienced in life
-
Yeah, Daly but we have the internet and smartphones now.All the guidance you need is just a Google search away..
-
As I said MFH,each to their own
-
Dollymount Enjoy your God jusl ike the Muslim enjoys his God ....JUST saying as in JUST .
-
Watching on TV Not a great Contrition by El Pappa but back to crowd size More people last week for the Losing Hockey team than the Pope. The Pictures dont lie .Nobody interested not to many families lining the streets As Our kid says the Pope in the Park is just Electric Picnic For Grey Hair .I think a lot of people watching on TV who have tickets for tomorrow will be put off by the lack of interest and wont turn up .

Constantine was a clever lad when he invented catholicism. He incorporated some Roman symbols in the religion, the aul crucifix ,reminding the plebs that Rome had the power to kill ya. The halo was fashioned from the old Roman god Sol Invictus to pacify Romans objections to the new branch of christianity. It`s all bollox, man written bullshit to keep the masses in check. It`s the same shite politicians spew for the same reasons.
-
Plenty of faith Dalyer....Jesuits rule in my book. The SS copied their structures............good can be turned to evil in one fell swoop....lessons to be learned. The Unabomber per example.

Yes private, no problem staying private,
But blocking up the capital with their bulshit is far from private,
Is the opposite,
It's in our face,
You mentioned the homeless,
This shit is costing well over 30 million,
Now many houses would that build,
Our young people haven't a fucking snowballs chance in hell of getting a loan.
Or life saving operations for our children,
They are just part of a list,
These RC oligarchs are Loaded let them pay for their own show,
Not the Irish tax payers,
Let this be the last hurrah.
It's total bollock.
-
Good aul Pope Gregory...........he knew a trick or two...............give your man horns and a tail and cloven hooves. Paint a few pics and sell them....."get your Auld Nick" t-shirts!!!...wrappin' papa....
-
Watching the TV coverage myself. I enjoyed the speeches. An Taoiseach made his points well and, at least as far as abortion is concerned, Pope Francis made it quite clear that the Church does not support the State or, more accurately, the will of the Irish people - 78% of whom identified as Catholic in Census 2016. Perhaps the most poignant quote was Leo quoting Francis, the build bridges not walls because walls tumble bit. While I was in Italy earlier this month two bridges collapsed, one well covered by International media.

McVerry is Jesuit alright. He might be in Day Centre , Jesuits shun the personal spotlight in general.

Not sure I appreciate the logic in asking a celibate man about marriage. Also wondering why he's speaking in Italian - I believe he speaks English and, from his time in Milltown, one can assume he knows that's the language we generally speak. Another thought, why does he need so much security... is the protection of the good Lord himself insufficient, is it God's will that he is protected from, well, God's will?
No disrespect intended, just random thoughts popping into my head, nothing more.

No disrespect intended,
he he,
Well why didja write all that shit about him, very disrespectful.
-
More about logic or protocol than him or anyone else, like I said just random thoughts as I listened to him speak. I guess the Lord put ten digits on my hands but only two ears on my head for a reason?
-
I'm just watching the concert from croker. Every time the camera goes on the pope,he looks like he has a pain in his nat king cole
-
Watching it myself. Quite enjoyable but I woulda left Daniel O'Donnell out, he makes Pat "the plank" Kenny look charismatic... and the travellers, we coulda done without their mindless whinging. Might see you in the Park tomorrow, DM... turns out Mrs. Catcher has been offered some spare tickets so I reckon we'll be going.

Do you want grub in Clondalkin before you go Ill cook ?
-
No, thanks. The tickets are for the Castleknock gate and the folk providing them live out that way so we'll (try to) head to their gaff after a full Irish. I believe picnic hampers have been organised to keep us fed and watered throughout the day. Looking forward to it now, once it doesn't rain.

Yes the auld creamers did not pass up the chance to tell the world how hard done by they are

Bishop of Rome...reason for Italian....celibacy thing is dodgy alright. Still, just because your doctor is an alcoholic doesn't mean you can't get him to sign you in.

Looks like rain, Ted.
-
Looks like the cops played a blinder with their strategy to keep people, and cars out of town last night.they put it about that there would be massive road closures last night so everyone woldstay local .suited me down to the ground ,because I fukking hate traffic, and STILL made
-
Didn't work myself in the end, watched the concert ... and W (Movie about George W Bush) instead. Hopefully they'll have a decent grip on traffic/crowd control today.
-
Town was busy all the same.I wasn't working though.

Crowd estimates at 130K,about a quarter of what was expected, looked empty once you left the front part.

Indeed. What a difference 39 years makes.
The significantly reduced numbers coupled with significantly increased racial diversity clearly reflects how our little country has progressed in social, political, economic and cultural terms. The current day division between Church and State was underlined by Pope Francis in his opening speech at Dublin Castle on Saturday as he criticised the way the Irish State and the Irish people - 78% of whom profess to be Roman Catholic - have failed to protect the poor and the unborn. Notably, he stopped short of addressing our enshrining the rights of homosexuals in law. As a reforming Pope maybe he can envisage similar changes to Roman Catholic doctrines noting that the LBGT crowd were allowed participate in the Phoenix Park Mass, being part of the gifts procession.
-
Did you wear the new jacket you bought up above in Great Britain to the event ?
-
I did. It was cold for much of the day, although I took it off for a while to cool down after the walk from Laurel Lodge to the park. The walk back wasn't so long. We took refuge in Myos and took a taxi from there given that the traffic restrictions had been lifted - well ahead of schedule.
-
The footage of the young boy who was prepped to ask Francis if his dead atheist father was in heaven, could be made cringeworthy by anyone wanting to highlight the sexual abuse within the catholic church.

According to a local speedy near me it was more like 90,000 but the OPW can't admit it due to their staffing budget.

From chatting with clients over the last couple of days, I reckon the most memorable part of Papal visit 2018 came from Nathan Carter singing with the Deaf Notes choir:

Considering it’s not his genre of music he done a good job. Obviously mobile phone video recorded from 2 miles away isn’t going to be great
-
It looked better on TV alright but it captured the mood perfectly, the singing accompanied by the kids signing with such enthusiasm was quite touching.
-
I do like him and his singing, but then again I’m into country music

Irish or the real stuff? Irish country music is a poor imitation of the likes of Johnny Paycheck or Willie Nelson....both poets and piss-takers.

His inability to read music didn`t diminish the respect the Wrecking Crew had for Glen, watch the documentary, it`s very entertaining.
First time I heard that was when it was the theme intro for a racing/sports programme in the 70s/80s. Here`s the original by Mason Williams https://youtu.be/EEzyrpfrPEI
