Don't know why hydrogen cars never took off. A car that emits only water as waste is the future.

Everyone has a horn for ev's and hybrids but I think once the manufacturers of ev's squeeze every last drop from the treehuggers they'll release hydrogen models.

Toyota is recalling a total of 2.43 million hybrid vehicles around the world over a hybrid system issue which can lead to stalling.

Toyota Ireland has said that a total of 1,289 vehicles have been affected in Ireland.

In a statement, it said that the safety recall is on certain Toyota Prius, Prius+ and Auris hybrid vehicles.

The recall covers vehicles produced between October 2008 and November 2014.

That's a lot of "taxis" and down time

Why don they use hydrogen?

They still need some sorta battery to store the energy form the hydrogen reactor so the hybrid idea is the one that works best. For now petrol engines are cheaper to build and a cleaner than diesel.

Dunno if yis know but Toyota run the hybrid petrol engines with something called the Atkinson cycle which means they behave a little like a diesel engine.Loads of mid range efficiency but uses the leccy motor where the Atkinson cycle engine is a bit weak.End result means they've built a vehicle that's efficient at all speeds.

What ye worrying about planet for when the Chinese are opening a coal fired electricity plants every week,
They are planning to open another 1600 within the next few years.
And they don't give a flying Fuck about climate change.
So why bother,
The new diesel cars are just as economical as some of the hybrids,
With nearly zero emissions.
If we all went electric where would the power come from,
We don't have the capacity to supply all the nation.
The carbon footprint would be just as bad as driving petrol or diesels.

Agree with you sclass, our own buffoons in their ivory tower in Kildare St setting targets of 2030 is ridiculous, infrastructure..or lack of it being the biggest obstacle.

Ah not sure about that...another example of the petro/chemical ind flexing its very large muscles, more like. It wasn't let take off........same with the sea-water yoke.

Ll that yoke only weighs 800kg and has two seats. It probably has more in common with a motorcycle. If ya took my wanked out Prius and replaced the steel chasis with carbon fiber and aluminium you'd get much better economy like they did at VW.Strip all the seats out and you'd be most of the way there.

When I was a courier my little Gn125 used to get up to 100mpg.It was like a bicycle with a lawnmower engine. That engine is around since the 80s.

Diesel fuks out all sorts of nasty chemicals when it burns. It should never have been used in domestic vehicles. The gains aren't worth the extra cost and maintenance IMO.The public was duped by marketing wankers in big car companies. And it's still going on until they tool up their plants for the switchover to electric.

Saw something on the news yesterday that Daimler Benz is building a billion dollar battery factory in the US.

Agree Merc........wasn't posting it up as a flagbearer for Taxi suitability. Just wondering had VW's billion dollar "emissions scandal" slap on the wrist any connection or bearing...........
