(Excuse the language) but I'm Fookin sat here on One of the busiest nights of the year with No Fookin Joe.
How often does that Poxy Fookin alternator Fookin thing go ?
Mine First went about Three years ago on the October Bank holiday weekend and then it went again
in May of this year just Seven Fookin months ago and now it's gone again tonight !
I drive a 08 D4D Toyota Avensis.
Thankfully my mechanic and my auto electrician have both been in touch and it would seem my Joe
will be repaired tomorrow morning. As I always pay my mechanic and auto electrician bang on time
and I never ever haggle a bill, they do tend to look after me when I need it most, like Today !
AXA Break-down assist paid fer the Tow.
But how often are these Fookin alternator things supposed to Fookin last fer ?

never ever buy reconditioned parts for yur livelihood...
Especially alternators... Buy the best battery money can buy.... And never ever jump start anybody....
-
sounds like the replacement alternator was too weak and did'nt jive with the car.
it needed to be beefier.
did ye notice the instrument panel lighting or the headlights flickering while you were driving around.
-
If ya bought a genuine one it should be still under warranty Belker.Because the labour is so much genuine Toyota parts is the only way to go.Its supposed to be a poxy job as ya need to remove the drive shaft to get access.
The only time I ever broke down in the Primera was due to alternator failure..but because I'm brilliant I rang the wife to pick me up a second hand one in Summerhill spares and drop it into town.Managed to fix it on the side of the road in 20 minutes. Then I done 500 press ups and went back to work..Enjoy the time off.

ECU might be the issue.
-
Starter, alternator, battery.....
The holy trinity I used to call them....
Wen one is sick..... It infests the others
-
He probably just needs to disconnect the ice machine, mini fridge and cocktail blender that's putting extra strain on the alternator.
-
...and stop carrying around a boot full of bootleg....and prozzies!!

Had to change the brushes in the Alternator in Triggers Brush after c. 212,158 miles. I think it had slightly over 300,000 on the clock when it was scrapped with no further problems from the alternator.
P.S. I hope you were typing from a public house, enjoying the darts and some Christmas spirits.

That’s the problem these days Rat, folk just don’t replace the bushes, they replace the whole unit. Probably why they break so much.
Nothing wrong with taking something apart and putting it all back together

There's only 3 components of note:
Windings - rarely give trouble, easily ckecked with a multimeter.
Bearings - can go but you'll hear it before the red light comes on and any play is obvious once you take it out of the car.
Brushes - most common fault as they wear away by design. Again obvious on inspection.
-
I blew 2 alternators in a yr back in 2015. My mechanic was suspicious so he sent off the ECU to be remapped.......alternator had not blown the second time at all...computer believed it had.
-
You didn't "blow" two if it wasn't "blown" the second time. Basic fault finding is all your mechanic done, it's not rocket science.
-
Bit of sympathy for fuck's sake.......... rofl
-
I was being sympathetic in not emasculating you by explaining the you didn't blow anything. The components merely failed, most likely attributable to reasonable wear and tear.
-
I hope yur not blowing anything lippo at yur age :o
Me mate has a hearse that he only takes out in Halloween..... He's a mad gas cnut

No, not a chance that I would ever go out on a Friday night, pubs jointed, pissing rain, no Taxies, No Thanks !
Me mate collected me from the mechanics yard and we stopped at the offie on the way home.
Thankfully the car was repaired by mid-day on Sat and I got to kick de shite out of the rest of the weekend
and commission free thanks to the MyTaxi Bobo.
Thanks to all who posted advice here.

You don't get me at all, at all. Just because you have piles doesn't mean it's not caused by an enlarged prostate..........

Don't like Mitchell.....not half as brainy as he portrays himself to be...........marrying Victoria Coren established that.
