Katie Taylor utterly dominates Eva Wahlstrom in New York

Katie Taylor successfully defended her WBA and IBF lightweight titles, moving to 12-0 following an utterly dominant display against Eva Wahlstrom - taking the 10 rounds in the eyes of all three judges.
In her first Madison Square Garden appearance, on the undercard of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez's bout with Rocky Fielding, Taylor entered the ring to the Pogues and Kirsty MacColl Christmas classic 'Fairytale of New York'.
The 32-year-old looked focused and proceeded to dismantle her previously undefeated opponent, who was 22-0-1 coming into this fight.
Taylor beat her opponent all six times they met in the amateur days but the 38-year-old had greater pro experience and was expected to be Taylor's toughest test yet.
However, Taylor looks untouchable at 9st 9lb and will be keen to next smoke out Amanda Serrano, sister of Cindy and widely recognised as the most plausible opponent for the Olympic gold medallist at lightweight.
After the fight, Taylor said she would love to fight Serrano in 2019, her fellow lightweight champions Delfine Persoon and Rose Volante, along with welterweight Cecilia Braekhus
In New York's legendary auditorium, the cheers of 'Olé olé olé' began before the end of the first of 10 rounds of two minutes as Taylor reddened her Finnish opponent's nose with a left hook after opening with a flurry of quick body shots.
Having dominated the first round, Taylor again took control of the second - hurting Wahlstrom with an overhand right and continuing with the body combinations.
Wahlstrom began to land a few shots in the third but the Wicklow woman continued to have the better of things, particularly when going for the Scandinavian's body.
Bouncing on the balls of her feet, Taylor was taking the fight to her opponent throughout the fourth, mixing head and body combinations with characteristically impressive hand speed.
Four rounds down, Wahlstrom knew she had to try something and came out willing to trade leather at the start of the fifth. However this was again to the advantage of the champion, as she hurt the Finn with a big left to the body and a right hook to the head.
Wahlstrom's right cheek was inflamed by the sixth and Taylor mercilessly pursued her outclassed opponent, in the seventh a body shot from Taylor visibly damaged the WBC super featherweight champion, who had stepped up from 9st 4lb to take this fight.
The eighth again saw Wahlstrom come out swinging, but by the end of the round Taylor was hunting her down and a cut was opened in the Finnish fighter's forehead from an accidental headbutt.
Taylor began the ninth with a ferocious flurry of fists and Wahlstrom looked to be wavering but hung on to see the tenth and final round, which would require a knockout if she was to avoid a first professional defeat.
As it was, Taylor impressed in the final two minutes to confirm her seventh win over Wahlstrom - her opponent helpless as Taylor unleashed yet another volley of bodyshots. The cut opening up beside her left eye further proof of the one-sided nature of this contest.

I have to agree even though I do admire what she has achieved. Her father's advice was to stay well away from the cut-throat bastards running pro-boxing. I'm sure men like Bernard Dunne and Frampton could tell her how often they ended up in court battles. As Marilyn Monroe said about Hollywood.........a million dollars for a kiss, and a penny for your soul.

She doesn't attend his scraps as she's fighting every secnd week for the last 2 yrs to make a few bob. She earns a fraction of what he pulls in. He is an actor, Gooter. He knows being headlines online is where the big bucks are...she's been drawn into the seedy world of pro-boxing and time will tell if she can survive it. God has no place there...........
