Didn't make a penny last nite....
Ques of taxis all traffic jams in Dublin last night... Poor cnuts going around wit 50 grand wheelies shitening their pants..
.it' has to be dawning on them they up to their eyes in debt... And on Valentines night.... It was absolutely shite out.....
Even me mot was in bad form and wouldn't give me a ride.... She was after having a row with her husband.....
There's a very strange feeling in the air and
It smells like a big load of shite trouble....

Very FDS...just bring the fukker back whoever has him locked up...Yer probably right though Octy...just remember before things went down the toilet last time there was a year or more where some people stopped spending.This Brexit bollix could be the catalyst for some unnecessary misery.
On the plus side, there are still less of us around compared to last time but the bills are much bigger than 2009 with ten-year rules, higher insurance and hefty tax bills so that will be a problem and keep lads out working longer than before.

I had a decent enough night (7pm - 11pm)... freight was above average @€3.50/hour despite starting with an IBT (freight free) job for Roy... musta been wining and dining his missis or something!

I also had a decent night, just put in the bare 7 hours mostly On MyTaxi Ambassador Priority, got miz Deuce+ and bogged off home by 4am.

I had a very good morning today. I started at 5:30-6:00 and finished at 10:30, did a bit of running around and then had a job at 13:00 to the airport from town that I was covering for someone

I see all the ques of taxis again and it's much quieter than last year... At night anyway..... I reckon yull start seeing the night me goin out during the day and makin up and then the day blokes will notice it..... But it can't be just me that notices it

SSseriously coola,I dont find it difficult to get that amount any givin thursday.it could be to do with the. fact that I very seldom rank ,mostly just drive around.any time I do ranknot,its always batchelors walk ,PWC, opposite the boat,or the new rank at the halpenny bridge

It doesn't strike me as a particularly high rate per hour. My average hourly rate would be less but I generally don't pick up south of Collins Avenue or west of Ballymun Road so I know I'm not maximising potential takings and I don't do a whole lot after midnight, on a good week I might stay out 'till 2:30 of a Friday and 03:30 of a Saturday but it's a long time since I've done that consistently, outside of that I'm always home by 00:30. Of course, my expenses are a lot higher than DMs as I work almost exclusively for mytaxi.

No your right,its not a particularly high rate,but I just work for what I need,and most weeks I would get that amou n t without any great difficuulty.I suppose we all have amounts we need to keep rhings ticking over,and I only work 3 nights a week for what I need

Depends on where ya work...some lads will keep driving back to where they feel comfy even if it costs them .Many drivers might not pick up on those ranks where Dalymount works because of their proximity to Sherrif street.
I remember Daly ranking up outside of Busaras in the early hours and having trouble with Pikeys.I'm sure yis know that yer just as likely to get some gyppo getting thrown put of a holding cell as ya are an airport job from outside a cop shop.

Indeed, we're all different and that's the beauty of the trade, you can tailor it to suit yourself. For example, one of the reasons I work evenings is to keep myself from pouring alcohol down my neck although, in recent times, I have found that I have to go home earlier than I'd like simply because I'm tired, to the extent that I'd be in danger of falling asleep behind the wheel... I'm not as young and certainly not as fit as I used to be... back in the good old days I could do 18 hours of a Saturday with no bother, in fact I couldn't sleep without a drink... these days I need to drink a strong coffee to stay awake past midnight!

Back to the OP regarding the recession..did a few hours yesterday and dropped off at Heuston to see a couple of the regulars back robbing at the platform. Haven't seen that in a long time.

Sometimes theres a security guard but he's pretty useless.To be honest there are some very elderly people who can't easily make it around to the taxi rank so you'll always find work there if a train has just arrived.All they see is a taxi and get in.

Re Heuston: There's 3 plastic bollards/cones at the entrance to the drop-off and I'm convinced the security guards job is to mind them.

Apart from a sign up, what's the big deal with picking up at the set down area?
If someone asks as I drop off, of course I'm taking the fare.
(to be clear, I'm never going on the rank after queueing for 40 minutes for a 7 euro fare)

I've taken the odd job myself but sitting there waiting and monitoring the arrival times to rob a job might be considered a bit of a scummy thing to do.
During the war...it was common for some lads to park in front of the pillars on Johns road and try to grab the jobs before they made it 20 yards to waiting cabs on the rank.
It also used to happen with the Molly rank on the bottom of Grafton street where lads would park within spitting distance from an official stand.Just lads being hungry fuks.

I know what ya meant VD, but if things go quiet(which I hope it doesn't) you'll see a whole other side to taxi driving.Waiting 40 mins for a 7 euro fare might not be such bad thing.
Personally, robbing at the airport is ok in my book only because it's a closed shop.(Sorry keshies)If I'm very close to a rank I'll send the job to the ranking driver.Others just take whatever and leggit.

I'd rather drive for an hour and get a €7 fare then sit on the rank and get same.

Dooblin and Cork must be very different DM, my working hours are usually sometime between 8pm and 6am.
From 8pm to midnight every rank is full and there is very little street flag-downs available.
From midnight till 3.30am there is plenty of street work.
And then from 3.30am on the streets are bare again, you would be lucky to pick up a job an hour.
But the App hops constantly in the quiet hours, even more so if'n you are Ambassador.
The stickers don't worry me, the 12% don't worry me, fer me Wheels turning and Meter moving is all important !

I'm very surprised at the lack of significant proactivity on the part of the traditional despatchers. I's going away from them more quickly since November last.

At least 5 in my area of South Dublin, all subsumed to entities that are also diminishing in size. The ones renting vehicl/radio packages may surive the longest.

I'm the same, I mostly work the Southern suburbs of Cork and very rarely see a hand in the air but the App keeps me busy most of the time. Waiting on a rank is not fer me.
