Title: The Irish Army.
Post by: The Liffey Lip on February 17, 2019, 12:21:24 pm
An investigation is underway after a weapon was fired accidentally by a member of the Defence Forces at a petrol station in Co Laois.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning on the Abbeyleix Road in Portlaoise.

In a statement, the Defence Forces say prior to a commencement of a prisoner escort, there was a weapon discharged by one of the personnel on duty.

It goes on to say breaches of procedure and safety in relation to firearms are investigated as a matter of course, with disciplinary action where warranted.

Gardai and the Defence Forces Military Police are investigating the incident.

Recall a Branch man letting rip with his Uzi between the old BHS and the GPO arcade back in the 80's.......think he successfully sued for not being trained to disengage the non-existent Israeli safety on it or something like that.

He pointed his revolver at a Shinner outside BHS , Shinner talked him down.

Can't find any reference to it, Bubba...........but there was another chap done for leaving his Walther in his jacket while he went clubbing in Club Nausea and that was the 80's too....the Peter Robinson thing was more to do with the cops going mad over the Uzi being pulled. Another basic and trustworthy weapon c/o a Russian Jew........

I remember it well, photo and all. Garda had gun pointing at Shinner, Shinner was walking towards him with his arms out. Branch lads drank in Raff`s Nth King Street used to hang the shoulder holster on the coat hangers and sometimes juggled the guns to each other. Mick Travers got shot by Garda in Raffs , pub was packed no one saw anything. Dunno about Uzi being discharged , probably happened. They used to carry the Uzis in a locked briefcase .

1986
22 March – A member of the Special Branch fire shots into the air on Prince’s Street North off O’Connell Street following scuffles while Gardai rearrest Irish Republican Eibhlinn Gleholmes after a much-publicised extradition battle.
8 November – UFF plant four small four explosive devices in O’Connell Street. No injuries.

Bad choice of wording on my part but clearly a revolver. The photo taken was from an upstairs window at the back of the Indo, just above dispatch bay .

My Brother was fined 9p for a round fired while on sentry duty outside Carnal Brugha barracks.
He reckoned it was worth it to see the Drunk Sergeant piss himself when he refused to answer " Who goes there?" 8)
