DM same seat in my car, I didn't take a chance , bought a cheap set of covers and just slapped o nthe front 2 for the test.
Failed me on no hubcaps and dirty/bubbly door sticker but the cheap covers were OK.

I got a section of my rear passenger seat repaired and also dents on my driver door and rear quarter panel sorted plus a peeling passenger side door sticker replaced,
The dent were there for last years suitability but it passed,i got the feeling he was looking for them this year,i know they take photos of the car every year and was wondering if they have access to those photos before the current test...it was S E Class that mentioned it at the beginning of the year that the test was stricter which spurred me on to get these repairs done.

Anything bigger than a fist is a fail on bodywork dents.I don't think they have gotten tougher but are just enforcing the rules already in the manual. The chap I got in Ballymun last time was on loan from Tallaght and he says he's sick of lads complaining about failing when their seats are manky. He said my car was in great condition(on the day)which means loads a lads aren't putting in the effort for test day.As far as I remember seats should have no tears and the car should be cleaned to a valet standard.Maybe shoddy/dirty cars are becoming more noticeable now that so many nearly new motors are coming into the fleet.

I was beside another taxi last week...fukin mank it was, meant to put the licence number into the driver check app to see when the licence was due for renewal....it looked like it hadn't seen a wash since its last suitability.

MFH my leather seat covers are not dirty, just cracks in the leather looks,a bit shabby. I dont know if they can fail you if its only the covers ,and not the actual seats

They judge whatever you present to them.I would just take the covers off for the test or put cheap ones over them for a pass then remove them afterwards.Depends on the tester.Maybe hang around the suitability and ask one of the lads while they're coming out to test another taxi rather than risk failing.

Lol.
Failed NCTS .Visual.
The winter tyres that were on it when I bought it had no E Mark.
Which is a bit strange seeing as when I bought it, it had four winter tyres AND a valid NCTS.

Who said a €50 In the ashtray doesn't work?
At least I got a whole  year out of them, and two winter spares should the weather change.  8)

It came with four winter tyres  Ang got through it's initial NCTS test.
Just strange that the next time it failed.
The initial certificate was valid til 06/2020.

There is a possibility that the importer puts another better set of tyres/wheels on the car to pass the NCT then puts the illegal ones on again to get it sold. They're probably making only €1500 on each import so €400 for tyres might be hard for them to absorb on every car.

You're probably right.
Still, I got a whole year out of them and two winter spares should the weather change.
Had a retired NCT guy in the Car last night.
He reckoned that human error was responsible for allowing the winter tyres through.
As you say, it was common practice for fleet owners with the same model cabs to chop and change to get a heap through the NCT.
Then return the defective parts to the vehicle once it passed.
