I was thinking someone might buy one of these eventually. Some things that would bother me is getting parts and I honestly doubt his mechanic has the expertise to work on these yokes.Added to that the door handles are flush to the bodywork. The customers might need some training to open them too.41k after all grants.

According to RC's database, the current T41413 (per photo) is a 10C Octavia with a Lawrence Nweke Ogboani driving it.  Lawrence seems to be licenced for Cork.  I wonder if they'll give him the Tesla?

The NTA database says the same.  Would that Tesla be breaking the law if it was driven on the road, NTA-unregistered, no roof sign, but with the 41413 plastic stickers on it?  The NTA database says 41413 should be a 10C Octavia!

Maybe its going for it's suitability soon.Interesting to see if it passes. You'd go mental if it failed.

One other thing is if it's involved in any sort of an accident it's probably getting written off.I know someone in insurance and the Teslas have extra long repair times due to the parts being unavailable.Even in the US where they're built repair costs can be multiples of a regular motor.

"Stuart's" one (actually owned by a Mr. Ogboani) is working down below in Cork. Maybe we can have a go in it in January... do you know the driver, Ken?

I think (thanks to SB) we might have got off on the wrong foot with this thread. Fair enough if it was one of our own renting to another of our own for a couple of ton a week, it'd be worthy of the praise implied in the thread title. However, should we not be asking how someone who doesn't appear to be Irish by accident of birth can afford to operate such a vehicle as a taxi?

The cars in the list above is most likely Tesla model S or even the X model.A bigger Jaguar/jeep size car.The model 3 in the OP is the "cheaper" smaller version.Only released in Ireland 2 weeks ago. They're about 48k to civilians..but with the leccy taxi grant we could be in one for 41k.

It's mental money buy some lads could be saving up to 5k a year on juice so it could pay for itself if you kept it long enough.Nice but maybe too nice for our job.

I just had a look at the latest SPSV newsletter and the leccy grant has been increased to 10k for taxis. So that's another 3k off the new price of an electric taxi. Not too shabby.

It's a shame they didn't offer a few quid off some hybrids that aren't plug in as the Toyota corrolla hybrid would be a good transition vehicle.

Whats the cheapest new  lectric car that can be used as a taxi?

The Renault Zoe but it's tiny. The leaf with the smaller battery was about 21k after all grants. It may be even cheaper now.

As far as I can tell the SEAI grant is still there but only for personal users.Business users are excluded.Needs some research.

The grants for biz were still showing...€3800 max...but as you say about the NTA grant increase.

If yis were feeling like taking a chance you could buy this and avail of an 8k grant because it's less than two years old.
15k after the grant for a newish leccy car.

Be interested to see if you could get ten years out of any EV with repeated charging,i'd be sceptical.

Would think the battery would degrade as time goes by giving you fook all range.

The batteries will degrade to some extent. Some of the better leccy cars(except the leaf) have liquid cooling which helps make them last longer.

The Prius is still for me the smarter choice but they're a little too pricey even secondhand.

14k for a 142D Prius over 5 years is 2700 a year plus 2/3k per annum for juice versus a newer leccy car that will cost 20/25k to buy new. That could potentially last 7/8 and maybe more years with the small mileage I cover. It has disadvantages but the grants are starting to bridge the gap.

The KIA E niro has a 300mile range so even if it lost 20% range towards the end of ownership you could still cover a shift was without having to go home early. They're hard to get but next year there will be loads on the road.

Unfortunately the Corolla hybrid is 26k new and you still need to put juice in it.They pass suitability alright.

A cheaper alternative would be a second hand Auris estate.Same as the Corolla in some countries. If you were willing to buy the diesel version they're cheap enough.Plenty of options.

Years ago anytime I got Pakisatanis in me Prius they were acting like I was driving the space shuttle.Asking me what's all the buttons for.Genuinely looked amazed.

You should see a 40 to 50% decrease in your fuel bill compared to the diesel Avensis. No more emission tests are a bonus too. They road noise can be annoying so stay away from anything with bigger wheels.15 inchers if you can.

The new model Octy has is supposed to be quieter but he complains about it being too small.I think he was probably in the circus at some point...too tall for this country.
