Any idea how many working drivers are licenced to work Dublin now? Number of cars working seems a lot higher recently
-
Free now
anybody with a licence for anywhere can work anywhere because theyre booked by the app
-
Yes I appreciate that, but is that the only reason, or ars D licences up significantly?
-
The NTA won't tell you...They are too busy promoting Electric cars
-
Has there been more stats released Bob?
I suspect the reduction in the pass mark on the Geography from 80 to 75% is helping Freenow push more drivers through the test.
I think I said before that one question could be responsible for many more successful candidates.

I don't think those numbers are readily accessible from our database but NTA do use some formula or other to assign national vehicle licences to individual counties and publishes the same periodically. The actual numbers might not be particularly accurate but assuming consistent application of the underlying assumptions trends should be reasonably accurate.

Thanks Watty. Looks like it's nearly back to 2008 levels so?

I see they've revealed the methodology used to allocate national licences to counties, never noticed that before:
*a vehicle is licensed to operate anywhere in the country: it is only the licensed driver that has a geographical area restriction. The county here is based on the licence holder’s address.
-
They’ve said that for years ya numpty, so Hal is actually classed as a Louth driver as his address is there, but is in fact a Dublin driver, which is what his license says
-
I don't recall seeing it on the page before and it's a question that was frequently asked on fora over the years. Most of the Loud/Mead men are licensed for Dublin as well so I guess you could add them all in... there's even Dublin licensed drivers commuting from Laois, Longford and probably further afield. Then there's all the country drivers with no Dublin licences that commute to work for Free Now.

Obviously you weren’t paying attention. I’ve known this was how they got their figures for years.
If you live outside Dublin, your vehicle wasn’t classed as Dublin taxi.

I think cool is more of a 5008 man meself

Until recently I thought that we were at balance point. Now it looks like we are back to oversupply most of the time.
-
I know a bloke who knows a bloke that started renting a taxi about a year ago. He's been back around his old job looking for extra night shifts in the Takeaway.Still has the rental.
So he's doing two jobs to pay the bills.

Yeha but at least he's getting fed in the takeaway

I rent,and don't recognize that scenario.

I reckon he was looking for some cash work. Some of the takeaways are still cash only.

The reason there are so many taxis is called FEBRUARY.

The Céad Míle Fáilte thread in the members lounge (http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=9128.0 (http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=9128.0)) lists new drivers as they are associated with vehicles. It's quite astounding how many foreign drivers invest in the so-called "naan vans" without any experience of driving a taxi... allegedly!
-
Glad to see you are all starting to agree with me that THE R ARE TO MANY FUKIN TAXIS.
-
Still have a lot of double shift drivers on the road...May as well be double the taxis...
-
It would be a foolish man that would hand out 20 k for a new car now considering the amount of taxis there are,and to think the NTA were actually looking for another a while ago
-
The ten year rule has us by the bollix.Even a shit car that will last 5 years is €8000 minimum.

Agreed billy, it never really picks up or goes back to "normal" till march, all the goldfish have to do is look back on their records of previous years to figure that out.

I don't think many are in agreement, DM. It's not that long since drivers' unions reported over 20,000 drivers leaving the trade to pursue better (paid) vocations. In fact, NPHTA enforcer, Jim Waldron, called for lower entry costs. Interestingly, the unions are supported in their view by the biggest dispatch firm in the State, Free Now, which invests heavily in recruiting drivers from all over the (third) world and is supported in that endeavour by thousands of drivers who advertise the firm FOC.

Well what I earned for Feb 2019, I have earned so far in Feb 2020.
DM really did earn a lot when he worked ::fds
-
I made a living, based on about 27/28 hours a week without a dispatcher.those hours will now be drastically cut due to my medial condition,so I have to assess if it will be worthwile staying in the game, particularly that I wont align
