Title: Hospitality Pick up charge
Post by: john m on September 09, 2017, 09:42:25 am
Got this from another location but it is something I never considered before
You do a Pick up at a Hospitality venue and add the two Euro to the fare  Eg Fare 8.00 + PUC 2.00 Total 10.00
Now the Question .......Do you pay commission on the whole 10.00 ie 1.20 when your Liability @12% on your share of the fare should only be 96 cent .Or for those of you who like the simple version ....are drivers paying 24 cent of their money on top of the two euro they are collecting for the kickback to the hotels .

I think they said the 2 quid wouldn't be charged 12% but I haven't opened a statement in months to check.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Not really correct ,the farmer frets over the seed he cant do much about the crop the important part is the seed .The small stuff usually sets the seed for the big stuff .

Worrying about the condom before you have the 4 by 3 at your disposal is futile.

I'm sure that it was also resolved on the other location.

My taxi take the €2 from you. You pay 100% commission on the Hospitality charge which mytaxi give to the hotel which came from the person  who the taxi was ordered for

So you pay commission on money that was never intended by the App provider to be yours ?I wonder do hotels actually show a figure in their audited returns for such gratuities ?

I had one on my statement this week....they charge the commission on the entire fare (€8+€2=€10)then they refund you the commission on the hospitality part of the fare, this is shown on the Invoice PDF that you receive weekly.

You'd swear with their tech savvy idiots in there that they would be able to create an algorithm that does away with all that rigmarole of taking commission, and then refunding the commission. The system knows you got a hospitality job as it says it on the screen.

Indeed Vikkiz,
I'm just glad i don't have to provide all these statements to my accountant....i just record what lands in my bank account and pay tax on said amount.

A horse built by committee... Hail0 developers were kept on for a defined period to get their requirements integrated by the existing mytaxi team. TBH, I reckon Hail0's team woulda realised from minute one of day one that they both teams were being asked to develop sh!te. If they had any professional commitment to doing the job properly they woulda made it clear that a new major release was required, written from scratch.

There's no correlation between what lands in your bank account and your tax liability. In the absence of a cash book or proper record keeping on your part your accountant will qualify your accounts as being drawn up from incomplete records.

A newly developed app wasn't possible without disrupting the billions, no make that millions, no make that 100,000s, No make that a few thousand of drivers around Europe who have been using the app forever. They couldn't discommode all of them for the 10,000 drivers that used an almost perfect app.

Ohhhh and as Rats says just because it lands in your account doesn't mean that's your earnings.

Good stuff, Hal. Once drivers don't get to thinking that they'd get away with suppressing takings by following the approach suggested within the post quoted. Drivers should bear in mind that any accountant they employ will qualify the accounts with the standard "based on information supplied", in the event of an audit it's your records that will be scrutinised not your accountant's interpretation.

A major release would have improved the system for all users, not least the office staff, VZ!

Shoulda - yes.
Woulda - probably more focussed on their future careers and, perhaps, open to being accused of just trying to hold on to their current jobs for longer than necessary if they did.
Coulda - not sure, Hail0 was pure sh!te under the bonnet.

It's earnings (minus commission already deducted)for card and cash jobs, the cash element must also be lodged....which is earnings also and anything else lodged with regard to my taxi biz game.

Suppressing takings by following the approach suggested with the post quoted.....are you suggesting that by my quote it's the only earnings i declare?....we're talking MyTaxi here...nothing else.

I'm not suggesting anything. I'm merely pointing out that there is no correlation between what mytaxi lodges to your bank account and Gross Taxi Fares received from mytaxi jobs... and pointing out that your accountant bases the accounts he draws up on the information you give him. Obviously, he has no way of knowing if you lodge all of your cash takings to a bank account or not, there's no legal requirement for you to do that or for him to perform any tests to ascertain whether that is the case or not... unless your business is incorporated without being exempt from external audit requirements.

Maybe rat's, but it worked for us drivers

Yeah, the user interface was better than mytaxi's for both drivers and customers. In fact, I have no doubt that the Hail0 Android developer would have cringed when he pressed the menu button on the mytaxi driver app for the first time, from that moment on he knew he was being asked to contribute to an inferior product.

Of course there's not and if drivers neglect the cash element of MyTaxi fares...then that's an issue for them when Revenue come a knockin!!

Anyways....they refund the commission on the hospitality charge!

Indeed, Revenue are good at extrapolation. While there's no correlation in real terms it shouldn't take Revenue long to establish marginal ratios to facilitate extrapolation, particularly given mytaxi's willingness to share it's data with the authorities.

Important to keep a good record of jobs done...A good one, not necessarily a brilliant one.
