Armed gardai launch security operation as tensions high between gangs at biker event in west Dublin

It comes just weeks after armed garda raids on a club's HQ in Dublin and also searches in Limerick

ByNiall O'Connor

Ireland has a high number of shootings and firearm seizures compared to other European countries

ARMED Gardai have launched a security operation in Blanchardstown as tensions are high between crime gangs who are expected at a biker event.

Sources have said that tensions are high in recent months between a group with links to the Bandidos international crime gang and certain members of another group at a European convention in Dublin today.

It comes just weeks after armed garda raids on a club's HQ in Dublin and also searches in Limerick.

In February, heavily armed gardai struck a motorcycle group meeting house in the Crumlin where they recovered several weapons - on that occasion the Gardai were targeting the group because of links to the Kinahan and Byrne Organised Crime Group.

A source said: "The Dublin raid was targeting a group with members who are linked to the Byrne Organised Crime Group.

"The Bryne OCG are linked to the Kinahan gang and riders from that club provided an escort to Regency murder victim David Byrne who was a senior player in the Kinahan OCG."

The Dublin raid was launched by members of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, as well as local gardai backed up by the Emergency Response Unit.

They searched the club house and they located knives and other items which they have seized.

An alleged Bandidos gang member's home in Limerick was also raided with a source saying there's been a serious problem in the city with biker groups turning to crime.

A source said: "There has been a serious problem in Limerick with motorcycle groups turning to crime. The murder of Andrew "Odd" O'Donoghue originated over a dispute within the bikers who wanted to align with the Bandidos."

Gardai searched five houses and one "professional premises"

They seized three high end cars and a Harley Davidson Motorcycle along with mobile phones, computers, documentation. They also found a drug dealing tick list and weighing scales.

The Bandidos have been declared an organised criminal gang in Australia and the US - sources said they were trying to break into Ireland.

The group in the United States are an organised crime group who hit the headlines when a shoot out in Texas killed nine people and injured 18.

They are thought to have links to organised crime cartels in South America and had attempted to take over motorcycle clubs in Ireland in 2014 and 2015.

Let's hope the Gardai make sure the wheels come off their enterprise.

Two men have been injured in a shooting incident in west Dublin late last night.

It is thought the men were shot at with a shotgun at some stage late on Tuesday night at an unknown location and fled the scene.

The pair then made their own way to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown seeking treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening, but gardai are investigating the incident.

Tensions have been high in areas of west Dublin in recent weeks after a number of shooting incidents, but it is not known if last night's attack is related to any particular feud or organised crime gang.

Well, the area does seem to be expanding to include every fucking place except Fingal....which, to me as an "M1 the odd-time, if I'm really stuck" user does seem rather racist. I'd rather go to Tallanstown or Ardee via the M2 any day...even though the toll road is quicker after midnight.

I'm not anti west Dublin or anti anywhere, erm. We have reports of gangland violence from all over Dublin and beyond. In fact there's even a thread on school kids having a bit of a ruck in Ashbourne, Co. Meath and knife attacks as far afield as London have been covered. It just happens that there has been a lot of gangland activity in west Dublin in recent times.

Castleknock, Luttrelstown, Carpenterstown, Blanchardstown, Ongar, Mulhuddart - a few examples of Fingal towns/villages in west Dublin. In fact the Garda operation referenced in the OP is in Fingal and the hospital referenced in the second newspaper article posted is in Fingal.

RECENT TIMES its been like that since Devalera was a lad TIME TO GET A GUN .

If it's been like that since deVelera surely the time to get a gun has long passed... in fact that is at the heart of the problem. Shootings, in particular, weren't commonplace up above in Dublin in my youth... in fact they were extremely rare. Even when I started driving a taxi back in the 90s drug deals were carried out under a veil of secrecy. These days the kids don't give a fuck and neither do the Gardai. Where they used to make up some nonsense story about collecting a few bob owed or being loaned or some such on drug jobs, they're more likely to say take us up to the patch bud and hang on while we get a bit of gear...

I can't see any harm in legalising cannabis. The State may as well collect tax on it rather than watch the Kinahans & Co make a large fortune. However, someone needs to do something about hard drugs. Cocaine abuse is at epidemic proportions up above in Dublin.

Sure there's plenty in the North County Dublin seaside resorts, you've only to ask a taxi driver who is around 43, but looks 73 anall:

Maybe Judges can't get enough of the stuff, or see it as a community service! 8)
