Over 2,800 people used late-night Dublin Bus route in first five nights

Two new 24-hour bus services began earlier this month.

Sun 11:08 AM

MORE THAN 2,800 people used the 41 Dublin Bus route in the first five nights after it began its 24-hour service.

Over 500 people each night used the northside service which travels from Lower Abbey Street to Swords in both directions between midnight and 6am.

The 41 route from Lower Abbey Street to Swords Manor was used by a total of 2,829 people between 1 and 5 December.

“Dublin has long been a 24-hour city, and it’s good that we finally have a bus service to reflect that,” said Fine Gael TD Noel Rock, who campaigned for the routes.

“This is tremendously encouraging and clearly shows that not only is this service necessary, but we should consider expanding it to other routes too.”

The 24-hour service has been in place for the 41 and the 15 Dublin Bus routes since the beginning of this month.

The fares are the same at night for the routes. The buses run every 30 minutes between midnight and 5am every night.

Last month, the Green Party called for 24-hour services to be brought in for more bus routes in Dublin.

“This service is essential for workers who do late shifts or work early but the need is not confined to Dublin Airport or along the number 15 route,” the party said in a statement.
“Not only is it important for workers but it would significantly improve the night-time economy in Dublin city.”
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

That new bus crowd will go 24/7 CIE and Dublin Bus Terms of employment would mean big wages for drivers but Go Bus or whatever they call themselves will employ drivers on fixed contracts .

That's why there has never been a 24 hrs bus service, wage demands too high......customer usage too low,
No doubt the NTA will subsidise these services with increased taxi licence fees.

Plenty of demand but security is an issue .So all passengers will have ID cards let authorities know who is on board Facial recognition tech will sort it out 5 years max and we will have 24/7 public transport .

They can backslap themselves up to Jan 1st....and then retreat, they'll probably reduce those services back to weekends only come the new year.

There are probably a lot more folks who wanna commute into the city for a few drinks but cant afford or refuse to pay €35 taxi to Clonee/Swords.I think the high rents in town thanks to the tech companies are driving these extra services.

Also remember the shitebags in our fleet who are picking and choosing what work they wanna cover.I told yis I had a Paki driver and an Irish gimp not wanting to go to Cabra recently.A guaranteed 15 euro fare for ten minutes driving.Yis brought this on yerselves.Better than flooding the kip with hackneys I suppose. See yis on the day shift.

Had a girl on Friday tell me she paid €40 to a black taxi driver(well he demanded it)to bring her from town to Drumcondra,he wanted payment upfront,he dropped her on the Drumcondra Rd and said she'll have to walk the rest of the way,she said "but i paid you 40"...he said "it's very busy..i haven't the time to drop you to your door".....

I know...it's not something that enters my head!!

Another short story...picked up four millennials from Google St over the weekend headin to my favourite desto..  Harky St......i wasn't involved in their convo but it eventually turning to taxi drivers doing what they want over the Christmas period....yer man in the front made some remark and i slowed the car down and said..."hey folks...i'm right fukin here,do yis want to terminate the journey, say yes anytime".....there was silence in the car,yer man in the front looks at me and i just looked straight at him and said..."is that ok?"
