I bought my car a few months ago, Private tax just ran out. Can I tax it as a taxi online?

No....you would have to send the VLC to Shannon with a change of taxation class form(RF 111)filled out.

You can download that form from motortax.ie,when you get the VLC back from Shannon with the new taxation class on it,you'll then need to go to your local motor tax office with the VLC along with your taxi licence and insurance cert and payment of €95,i know they take a photocopy of the taxi licence.

I  believe you can do the renewal online.

I know we can do renewals online now but i think(open to correction) that as he's not renewing but taxing for the first time(new tax class) that he might need to visit his local motor tax office,
When i was renewing this year... because of the NCT lift debacle....i went to renew my tax online but i hadn't completed the suitability and it wouldn't allow me tax my heap...it did eventually allow me do it the day after i passed my suitability.

Sadly there is no way around this. You have to go into your local tax office to complete the change from private to Taxi/Limo.They are due to reopen in phase 4 sometime in July.Until then just hope you are stopped by a friendly cop when you are out and about.Worst case is that you will have to pay a couple of months back tax at the private rate.
