Dublin Bus proposes pilot scheme to provide thousands of e-scooters

Similar programmes have been rolled out in cities around the world

Dublin Bus is exploring the potential for an e-scooter pilot scheme in Dublin and could roll it out this year.

The €3.6m proposal to provide free access to thousands of scooters is contained in a white paper it submitted to the Department of Transport.

Based on figures from suppliers and the cost at which they have been deployed in other cities, the scooters would cost about €600 each. That would mean the investment required would be between €1.2m and €3.6m, depending on the number provided. The proposal said it was anticipated the pilot would be at "minimal net cost to the supporting agencies as costs incurred could be borne by participant suppliers and research grants".
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

Are people going to choose a scooter when its pissing rain, its way more dangerous on a scooter as well, especially in Dublin. far safer in a taxi.

I think they'll work well up above in Dublin, particularly if they're available on a one way basis from/to the main railway stations. Taxi drivers and taxi company bosses were quick to point out how unsuited taxis are to the new normal. There's no doubt that scooters (and, perhaps, electric bicycles) will provide a safer, healthier, environmentally friendlier and often faster alternative. There will, of course, still be a need for taxis and/or environmentally friendlier, healthier rickshaws e.g. to accommodate parcels/wheelchairs and during inclement weather.

The majority of people usin scooters are the new generation
1990 .
.ther more conscious of climate change ..and hungrier for independence....a bit of rain will mean nuttin to the them ..
Also they dont have to share a confined space wit a potentially infected ....also its quicker into work on a scooter  anything up to 10 miles ....also you dont need parking,,. Also yu dont need road tax ...also yu dont need insurance,  nct ,
Or pay 20 to 30 quid every day to sum  scum taxi driver , also you can go on the path wer its safer and wen traffic is
, congested , an yu can use one if yur too lazy to pedal a bike , an it's practically free to run one .
An jump on the dart or Lucas  for some the journey,
If I has any money to invest I know wer my money be goin....
Enormous opportunities to import and sell these things especially as they be legal very very soon

I'd give it a go... but not in the rain. In the summer do you want a nice breeze on your face or to sit in a tin box breathing immigrant sweat?

I know the Boris bikes are a great success but a few electric ones wouldn't go a miss... and how about some electric Go-Cars with point to point hire?
